Kaua’i Hospice Concert in the Sky July 4, 2016

When I was asked if I wanted to help out at the Kaua’i Hospice Concert in the Sky, I was really really excited. There were tasks such as face painting, glitter tattoos, novelty, and many more that I can't recall. For me, working with glitter tattoos was such an enjoyable experience. Not only did I get to interact with other Key Clubbers, but I was also able to engage in small talk with children. They would tell me about how much fun they were having at this event and upon finishing the glitter tattoo they'd say, "Thank you," which really felt rewarding. There were several times where a kid complimented the tattoo I put on them and told me how much they loved it; that was the highlight of my night. At some times, the line for glitter tattoos would get really busy and my station would become a mess! But, it's okay because I know I made a kid smile. At the end of the night, we ended the night in a great way as we watched the fireworks show. Overall, there was not a single moment that I regretted and I would love to do it again!

Beach Clean-Up & DCM July 11, 2016

On July 11, we had a service project and DCM at Lydgate Beach Park from 12-1:30 PM. The service project was a beach clean up and it was from 12-1 PM. Soon after, we had a DCM from 1-1:30 PM. Officers from Kapa'a High School's Key Club hosted us in our efforts to clean up our local beach! Service projects like this really enforce caring for our community by dedicating time to better our environment. It was quite sad that in just an hour, we acquired so much trash. It makes me think of how much pollution is at our beach and that we should take time to do more clean-up related service projects. Although we only had a short time to clean up, I could tell that we did a lot. Our little effort can make a big difference, so I advise all Key Clubbers to go out there and make the world a better place. Every small effort we take together can make a big difference!

JULY RECAP

KHS Registration July 14, 2016

Sleep deprivation is no problem for us Key Clubbers here at Kaua’i High School! Members woke up early in the morning to work the 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM shift for the Kaua’i High School Registration. At this event, we passed out class schedules to new and returning students of Kauai High School. We hope that by representing Key Club at registration, more students will be interested in joining this coming school year.

It was fun helping the teachers during summer. We organized their papers, decorated their classrooms, moved desks around, and ran a few errands. During the event, it was nice to actually talk to the teachers on a friendly basis. We learned how difficult it was being a teacher and how hard they try to meet us halfway or even all the way. It was worth sacrificing some of my summer to help the people that have been passing their knowledge to us.

Koloa Plantation Days (Set-Up/Breakdown) July 29-30, 2016

The Koloa Plantation Days event was a great and fun experience overall! The things we did on the first day were setting up benches and tables in the tents, and then taking them down the next day. Everyone at this event was so friendly, cooperative, and hardworking, so it was not only easy getting the job done, but fun. Although it was very tiring, I'm just glad that we got to help the rest of the community because I couldn't imagine setting up something this big without any help.
