INTRODUCTION

SAA’S MESSAGE

HEY GUYS! My fellow officers, advisors, and I are very excited to help you all with making your Key Club experience enjoyable. Key Club has taught many of us that community service is about creating new memories and making a difference in this world. Whether we're planting trees at Lydgate or getting to know our division's Lieutenant Governor, Key Club has greatly impacted our lives in many ways. To our new members, we hope that being in Key Club this year will encourage you to stay throughout high school and also run for office! Don't hesitate to ask an officer if you have a question about anything! Personally, Key Club will always be a part of me and I hope it does the same for you!

Alvin Calma

Sergeant-at-Arms, Kaua’i High Key Club

Mokihana Swim Meet August 20-21, 2016

Even though I had to wake up early to drive all the way to Kapa’a and wear my legs, volunteering at the Mokihana Swim Meet was fun and exciting. At 7 AM, Key Clubbers met up at the Kapa’a Public Swimming Pool. During the swim meet, many of us key clubbers walked around the pool to pass out snacks and water to coaches, people who timed the swimmers, and announcers. Not only that, but we also prepared lunch plates for them. While we were passing out water and snacks, we had to be social with them. For the first time in my life, I finally started to break out of my comfort zone—especially since I’m mostly a shy person. Key Clubbers also helped out by serving food and shave ice to customers at the food booth, as well as timing the swimmers. We didn’t get to sit much, so most of the time we were standing up, walking around, and carrying things that were heavy and light. Overall, this event was a great first experience as a new member. This club is pretty good at helping others and is also filled with hard workers.

AUGUST RECAP

Wilcox Health & Rehabilitation *every Sunday*

At Wilcox Hospital, Key Clubbers helped the elders play bingo. We assisted them with placing the chips on their bingo cards and picking out prizes for those who won. It was exciting to see the elders play bingo and enjoy themselves as we interacted with them. For me, the highlight of this event was getting called up to announce the numbers on the bingo balls, and calling up another member to do the same. We also got to sing "Happy Birthday" to Mr. Morden, who was one of the elders in the room. Overall, I was delighted to see the elders having fun and laughing.
