INTRODUCTION
SECRETARY’S M E S S A G E
HEY, KEY CLUBBERS! I'm Destiny Morden, your Key Club Secretary, and it's that time of the month to get your spooks on! Just don't forget to get your 5 hours this month; you don't want to be filled with spooks if you don't! This month will be the start of your adventure throughout your year of Key Club. October is filled with lots of fun events that will be coming up, especially LTG Day! Another service project is UNICEF, so remember that the best costumes equal the best fundraiser. Happy Halloween, Key Clubbers!

Conference
“
” September 17-18, 2016
Region 18 came together at ‘Iolani School for the annual Region Training Conference (RTC). Region 18 is comprised of Key Clubs throughout the entire state of Hawai‘i, and is separated into three divisions: Hikina, Komohana, and Makai. On the first day, Key Clubbers were separated into workshop strands that revolved around leadership, inclusiveness, characterbuilding, and caring. As a service project, teddy bears were created out of towels to give to children at local hospitals who have suffered from trauma. Fall Rally West was held at the end of RTC, in which all proceeds were donated to the Pediatric Trauma Program. Ultimately, RTC was a wonderful opportunity to interact with different people, as well as learn many skills to share with their clubs and communities. Key Clubbers truly demonstrated what the “Magic of Service” was all about!

PTP Teddy Bears September 17, 2016
One of the CNH District Key Club’s ongoing major projects is PTP, the Pediatric Trauma Program. This program works to reduce the amount of children who die due to traumatic injury and helps these children live both happily and healthily. At RTC 2016, our service project was to make PTP teddy bears out of small towels to give to children in local hospitals, including Kapiolani Medical. It was a really cute, fun, and surprisingly simple DIY bear, accompanied by a short note of encouragement like 'Smile'. Sometimes it was frustrating when the head or leg didn't turn out right, but I think knowing that our bears would go to grateful children motivated us to make them the best we could. Service is never a chore when you know you're helping others in need.

Wilcox Key Kids
*every Wednesday & Friday*
Wilcox Key Kids is a program where Key Clubbers interact with the students at Wilcox Elementary School’s A+ Program. Key Clubbers could either help out in the cafeteria or volunteer in the field. In the cafeteria, other Key Clubbers assisted the older kids with their homework and bonded with them. I chose to help out at the field, which was a good idea: we play tag, jump rope, and also play on the playground. My highlights of attending Wilcox Key Kids were getting to know the kids and playing tag with them. Overall, my experience was both fun and exciting at the same time. I love helping out kids— especially large groups of them.
