Brrrrr it’s getting rather cold-like 68F at times! We’re nearing the end of 2nd quarter, as well as the end of 2017. Make sure to bring a jacket and dress warm for all of your exciting winter events. It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and for all of you doing Salvation Army Bell Ringing, don’t be afraid to showcase your wonderful voices. Keep working hard! We’re almost there

Hey, my fellow giving bee’s! During this month, one event that stood out to me, was LTG day. A day where it’s meant for our special bee, Kara Yoshiyama, which she is known as the Lieutenant Governor. After everything she has done for us, and the whole division—we, as Kauai High Key Club, decided to dedicate a special day for her! Despite the stressful part about setting up a memorable event, it ended up to be something that I’ll never forget in my senior year. Full of games and memories, along with tons of laughter, bonding, learning experiences, and also connecting with my fellow Key club members. This is one event that is worth remembering. -Destiney Morden

LTG Day

On the night of November 21, Kauai and Kapaa Key Club officers gathered together at the Ho’okipa Cafe for the Kiwanis Installation Banquet. This event was held in order for all of us to watch our Kiwanis officers be installed and to recognize all the awesome work they do for Key Club. We were not allowed to sit with someone from the same club, which gave us the opportunity to bond with Kapaa Key Club officers and all Kiwanis Club of Kauai’s officers and Board of Directors. The best part of the evening was we had the luxury to meet Division 22 Makai’s Kiwanis Lieutenant Governor, Roy Kagawa and his wife and past Kiwanis Lieutenant Governor, Audrey Kagawa! It was great when they discussed the upcoming Kiwanis DCON (District Convention) and their recognition for each club. The evening was topped off with delicious food provided by the Ho’okipa Cafe. We could not do anything in Key Club without the support from the Kiwanis Club of Kauai so it was a huge honor to be able to witness their installation and thank them for all the hard work they do for us!

On Tuesday, November 21, I was given the opportunity to take part in set up for the Salvation Army’s annual thanksgiving meal service. It took place at the Convention Hall, where we spent about two hours decorating and preparing tables. As we set out placemats handmade by kids from Wilcox school and wrapped countless tables one by one, I was able to reflect on the meaning of thanksgiving. In my house, thanksgiving is normally a time for rest. But taking two hours, working with other key clubbers, to give those in need a thanksgiving to remember changed my perspective entirely. Thanksgiving can be about unwinding. But for many people, it’s about unity, and being able to give back as a collective. I’m glad that I was able to spend this thanksgiving expressing my thanks by giving back to my community with my fellow key clubbers. -Alana Takata
