How’s it going Aqua Apes?! The end of the term has at last arrived. It has been a profound honor serving you all as Lieutenant Governor and I am extremely grateful for all that this division has taught me. The unfailing kindness, the fiery passion, the dedication to service I witness in each and every one of you continues to inspire me. I will forever take pride in what we as a division were able to accomplish, from implementing a club-buddy system to organizing the first ever D34 Holiday-a-thon, and I have supreme faith that next term, under Kristen Carpio’s leadership, Division 34 North will ascend to even greater heights! Given that this message constitutes my last as your Lieutenant Governor, I would like to recognize certain groups of individuals. To the diligent and hard-working Division Leadership Team, I am immensely appreciative of your service and your consistent commitment to improving this wonderful division. To the ape-mazing club officers, thank you for taking initiative when others could not, for going beyond your basic duties and responsibilities when necessary, for working with each-other to best serve your respective clubs. To the advisors, those that guided us when we were lost, provided rides when we needed them, and supported us through all the adversity of the term, rest assured that your efforts have not gone unnoticed. Finally, to the aqua-tastic members, the foundation of this division, none of Division 34 North’s success this term would have been possible had it not been for the time and effort you all have dedicated to this organization. For all the contributions you all have made to your home clubs and this division alike, I am tremendously grateful. Finally, I have a quote for you all to ponder: “Don’t cry because it's over, smile because it happened” (Dr. Seuss). With District Convention around the corner, let us reflect upon both the successes and learning lessons of this term, the triumphs and the adversity, and be appreciative of it all. Please spread this wisdom and do great things my fellow Aqua Apes!

Serving with all my heart,

Emmanuel Flores

It has been a great honor to serve as Division 34 North’ s Executive Assistant for the 2019-2020 Key Club term! Being your Executive Assistant has changed me in ways I could not have thought possible; I have gained an abundance of knowledge from all of you about Key Club and life in general. The ability to meet and make memories with all of you at the different events throughout the year has meant so much to me. Each one of you has been a part of my Key Club journey and have made every second of this term truly memorable. Even though I have one more year to go, being an Executive Assistant this term has definitely been my favorite part of high school and I wouldn’t trade it for anything else. I would not have had such an amazing high school experience if it wasn’ t for each one of you APE-tastic Key Clubbers. I am so proud of the division for striving for the goals we set for the term and getting more students involved in Key Club. Even through these troubling times we have made a way to participate in service and gain service hours to keep up the Key Club spirit which is what makes this division so special. Thank you all for making this term the best term yet, and I can’ t wait to see the new heights we reach during the upcoming term.

Kausik Kolluri

Hello, Aqua Apes! Wow, this term has gone by in a flash. It has been such an honor to be able to serve you all as an Executive Assistant this past term, and I've learned so much from working with you all. You guys have taught me to become more compassionate and understanding, and I wouldn't have wanted to work with anyone else. I'm so proud of all of the hard work that you put into this term, as we would have never come as far as we did without each hour served, each dollar raised, and every smile spread from one Aqua Ape to another. Even though we couldn't all celebrate the term at DCON, we'll make sure to keep our spirits up as we're all going through this together. Stay strong Aqua Apes, I hope to talk to you all soon!

Club Summaries

Most, if not all club summaries come from different months

Aragon | Ellen Batsuuri: This past month Aragon has been working on finding and participating on service events as well as getting a couple of service events ready for the upcoming months. We had also have been preparing our officer elects for the upcoming term! Overall, we’ ve had a decently plentiful month and are looking forward to what the future holds for our club :)

Burlingame | Johanna Lazaro: This past month Burlingame has been working on finding and participating on service events as well as getting a couple of service events ready for the upcoming months. We had also have been preparing our officer elects for the upcoming term! Overall, we’ve had a decently plentiful month and are looking forward to what the future holds for our club :)

Carlmont |Milad Shafaie: Hello, January was a busy month for our club! At our first club meeting of the new decade, we held an end-of-first-semester celebration, where we served pizza and recognized members who completed at least 15 hours of service and attended 3 different service events in the first semester of the 2019-2020 school year. We also gave special awards to those with the highest service hour totals in our club. Later in the month, we held a member induction ceremony, and then completed a member training. Outside of club meetings, we focused on completing the registration process for District Convention 2020. Club members also attended several division events, such as Conclave and the Coyote Point Park Clean-Up. Finally, our club volunteered at several local service events, such as a Second Harvest Food Bank food-sorting and a Bingo night at the San Carlos Adult Community Center. In February, we will be holding officer elections for the next term. Members are also looking forward to attending the Mr. Key Club Pageant at the end of the month, as well as several other local service events.

El Camino | Kyle Yoshida: For the past month, El Camino has been working towards DCON as well as preparing for our new office for the 2020-2021. We hope to complete elections before conclave and provide them with the proper training as soon as we can. Our club attended the holiday food-packing event during winter break and had a decent turnout, we hope to continue to attend new service events as the year comes to a close. In further preparation for district convention, our club has been working with our Kiwanis Sponsor in order to lower our costs and work on acquiring the proper transportation.

6

Hillsdale | Gwendolyn Arzaga: This past month Hillsdale Key Club had our member Tyler Chong-kit participate in the Mr Key Club event and we had several members out in the audience supporting him too. We also attended a food packing event at Hillsdale hosted by one of the clubs at our school. Lastly, we had a majority of last term’s officers attending the End-of-the-year banquet.

Jefferson | Luis Solidum: For the month of February, Jefferson Key Club Was able to attend volunteer events such as the St. Anthony's Foundation Clothes drive and the Mussel Beach clean up. Jefferson Key was also able to Attend Socials such as the: February DCM in which we were awarded club of the month and the DCON spirit social. We have also been focusing on collecting and selling the division hoodie fundraiser which was designed by a member in our home club. Such an opportunity to have our member’s design and create the hoodie is very exciting. We are still actively trying to find more volunteering events we can attend.

Lowell | Adeline Nocon: We began to wrap up the 2019-2020 term this month. We completed elections and are excited to have found next term’a board. As the month continues, we will continue to train these officers. Despite the term coming to a close, we have not slacked on any of our volunteer events or fundraising. We participated at events such as the Chinatown Community Fair, Ruby Red Academy Awards Gala, SF Food Bank, Polar Plunge Special Olympics, CNY Run, Mr. Key Club and banquet (where our secretary was recognized for her hard work as Secretary of the Year, and our relationship with SI as our IERI partner was also recognized). As for fundraising, our webmaster designed a division keychain which we are now selling in order to raise money for PTP. We were also all excited for DCON as we made our spirit sticks and with 11 members attending. But sadly, that’s an experience us seniors will have to leave to our underclassmen.

Mills | Audrey Kim: This past month Mills has been working on finding and participating on service events as well as getting a couple of service events ready for the upcoming months. We had also have been preparing our officer elects for the upcoming term! Overall, we’ ve had a decently plentiful month and are looking forward to what the future holds for our club :)

Notre Dame | Kristen Carpio: This month was very productive for Notre Dame! We hosted our annual Cookie Decorating service event at a club meeting, where we had about 30 people attend and decorate cookies. We donated the cookies to the Sisters of Notre Dame who live next to our school, and they're always appreciative of our gifts. We also had members attend the December DCM, the K-Mart Shopping Event, and the first ever D34 Holiday-A-Thon, which were all super fun events! Next month we plan on attending the Coyote Point Clean-Up and Conclave.

7

Saint Ignatius | Jacob Lee: January was a relatively uneventful month for our club. We began the New Year volunteering at the Coyote Point clean-up division-wide service event. We also had one delegate present for Conclave. In the coming month, we plan to attend many of the upcoming social events, continue to prepare for DCON, and hold officer elections to keep our club running for years to come.

San Mateo | Ryan Zhang: San Mateo Key Club held elections for the new term on the 24th, with 9 club members voting. We went to iHop and promoted National Pancake Day on our Instagram to our school. Five of our members attended Banquet.

Sequoia | Giselle Osorio: This past month Sequoia has been working on finding and participating on service events as well as getting a couple of service events ready for the upcoming months. We had also have been preparing our officer elects for the upcoming term! Overall, we’ ve had a decently plentiful month and are looking forward to what the future holds for our club :)

South San Francisco | Carl Conste: This December, South City has been busy, busy, busy! The primary events we attended were Brave the Bay and the Kiwanis Holiday Food Packaging. We also strengthened our Kiwanis relations by attending the Division 34 Kiwanis DCM and the South San Francisco Kiwanis Club Board meeting. Candidates for possible board members next term have been given presentations entitling what their desired position entails. Additionally, we are in the final stages of DCON preparation and planning. Throughout the month of January, we plan to host a Service-a-Thon to do a multitude of service projects at once! We are also planning on fundraisers such as Jamba Juice Gift Cards and T-Pumps to help alleviate our DCON expenses.

Westmoor | Angela Chew: For the past month, our club has been very busy with DCON registration, club elections, and attending service and division wide events! We had officer candidate interviews and finished our club elections. Our club attended the Hot Chocolate Run, Chinese New Year Street Fair, the Kaiser Permanente 5K Run, and Conclave. We also recently surpassed our service hour goal for this term and sold mac and cheese at our foods day to fundraise for PTP! In the upcoming month, we’ re planning on having a Valentines Day social, announce the new elects for the 2020-2021 term, attend more service events, and go to the banquet!

This was quite a fun dcm and actually wasn’t like the other that we’ve had, there was a trivia that all clubs got to participate in and even though it wasn’ t something too big, I still enjoyed it a lot. We ended up winning club of the month and I’ m super proud that we were able to have that achievement! There was pizza, boba, and other goodies sold and everything was so good. I do feel like this was one of the best dcms in my opinion, everything just went so nicely!! -Alex Cada February DCM was so fun. I loved making cards with Sheila and Frances, and it was super nice meeting new friends from carlmont. Also Teannas lemon thingies were so freakin good -Katie Hang The February dcm was great! I had fun in trivia event though i blanked out on the questions lol. it was a fun activity hehe :) -Alicia Kim

Mr. Key Club was undoubtedly one of my favorite events ever. It was an amazing experience to meet so many new people from south and work with some friends from north. Backstage I was dying of

ARTICLES AND VISUALS

As a participant at Mr. Key Club, my experience was wonderful. The participants get to know each other and enjoy coordinating their group performances and encouraging each other over their individual performances. Participating allows for Key Clubbers and other people also participating to express themselves as well as possibly reach out of their comfort zone and extend their ability to do things in front of an audience. The turnout was great and there were many people that made this event marvelous. -Chris Tse

nervousness and cringe but everyones love and support truly made it an unbelievably fun night. Highlight of the show was definitely at the end when all the guys came on stage to entertain the crowd as the votes were tallied. Overall, it was one of the most memorable nights of my Key Club career and I’ d definitely do it again if I weren’ t a senior. So if there’s any guys out there on the fence about doing it next year, because if a talentless guy like me can have a great time, so can you. -Jacob Lee For me, Mr. Key Club was very entertaining to watch! The contestants had a blast being on stage, whether it's answering questions or making up pick-up lines. The best part of the entire event was the contestants' talent performance because I got to learn what their special talent was. I enjoyed every single one. On the flip side, the other performers did a wonderful job with their performances. This was a great event to bring Division 34 North and Division 34 South together and enjoy a good time. -John Carlo Manuel

EEnn d o ff tth heeYYeeaar r do Banquet Banq uet

During the month of March, I had the honor of attending LTG Emmanuel’ s banquet. As soon as I walked in, I was overwhelmed with the fancy decorations, the smell of the food ready to be eaten, and people’ s happy faces. Overall, the banquet seemed very fancy and organized. As I got comfortable, I felt sad listening to a variety of farewell speeches knowing that I was a Key Clubber that would be leaving next year. However, it was also fun listening to Emmanuel lead his last Division Council Meeting as well as pass out awards to the respective members. I definitely did not regret attending Emmanuel’s banquet as I was able to gain a very fancy and memorable experience all while supporting Emmanuel through his last events as the Lieutenant Governor. -Tony Hong (D12E IP LtG) Last weekend I attended the End of the Year banquet for my second time as a key clubber. It’s crazy to have seen so many familiar faces considering I last year I barely knew anyone. The table I was sitting at had a such a mix of

Ruby Red Academy Awards Gala

Our club volunteered at the Academy Awards Gala, an event organized to help raise funds and award donations to assist a variety of HIV and AIDS organizations. We arranged flowers, set up furniture and seating, decorated the walls, and helped clean to prepare for this amazing event. It was amazing to see people of all backgrounds unite and work together to set up an event dedicated to one of the most important causes in today's society. And we got a little peek at the beautiful red carpet set up for the attendees to walk on and glimpses of what a blast the gala would be. Since we were underaged, we could not stay but I am happy that we as a club got to partake in the making of the gala. -Frances Lin

The Saint Anthony’ s Foundation volunteer event was only my second ever Jefferson Key Club event besides one beach cleanup in which we didn’t do much, due to the lack of trash from prior events. At Saint Anthony’s, we were able to help out with organizing the donated clothes and watch the donation front. While we were in the front we were able to direct any individuals who needed help and or assistance. It was really reassuring to know that by simply organizing clothes or pointing out specific things to people we as Key Clubbers could make a difference. -Citlali Sierra Saint Anthony’ s was extremely fun, made easier by being able to volunteer with my her (Citlali) This for me made volunteering way easier! That is the sole reason why I enjoy being apart of Jefferson Key Club. We were treated very nicely by the other volunteers and the St Anthony employees. The feeling of helping others was extremely satisfying. -Alexa Diaz

On the first day of the festival, we spent a lot of time setting up and organizing all the prizes for the kids. Some of the members were blowing up balloons in the back and others were prepping the games and prizes. As the festival actually began, we started playing the games with the kids and parents, then handing out the prizes. It was a fun day since we didn’ t really know what to expect and we got to meet new people as well. The volunteer event helped us get to know more about each other and the new friends we met since it was a long event and we had some free time. -May Cho The first day of the Chinese New Year Festival was very exciting, I went last so I knew how much fun and tiring this 13 hour day is going to be. I help set up booths and games for the little kids that pass by, and I love the smile and excitement they get from a little balloon. The little kids would always come back not only for the prizes, but for the joy of games. It is my favorite volunteering ever, and I really hype it up for my members, and I didn’ t let them down. Everyone had an amazing time, and I can’t wait for tomorrow. -Anni Zhang Today 2/8/2020, was another day volunteering for the CNY festival. I was very excited since the previous fair was so much fun, and I was looking forward to another enjoyable fair. Sadly not many volunteers or people in general were coming to Chinatown, so it wasn’ t as busy as we expected. We mostly did the same thing, setting up booths and games. Even though they were wearing masks you can still see the smile on their faces when receiving a balloon. It was so heartwarming I can’t wait for next year. -Anni Zhang

Today I passed out some posters, newspapers, and pamphlets. My favorite part was that I got to talk to people I didn’ t know. I also liked seeing the smile on the people’ s faces and the super nice grandmas were very cool. Most people threw away the paper we passed out so that was a waste and they didn’ t give dinner. Getting food required sneaking which was irritating. There was this one kid that kept throwing these loud ass poppers, it was really annoying and it scared a little dog. And all I did was sit in a chair all day in the cold. My leader person tried kept asking me if I had friends just because I didn’ t know the sophomores. -Christina Chan Today I walked around avoiding a girl yelling at my group and it was kinda boring. Then we got chairs and finally sat down. The entire experience was very cold, and we were constantly hungry. The best part was getting lunch, but then again, they didn’t feed us dinner. All in all, would not recommend this event. -Clark Nguyen We got to compete against each other to see who could pass out flyers the fastest and was allowed to basically bond and eat the entire day. It was great roaming around the festival since I’ ve never actually been before this event. Also, we were allowed to establish our dominance over pedestrians in order to stop them from getting hit by cars at a crosswalk. CNY festival was super fun minus the fact that we had to endure the stench of portapotties whenever we had to go. -Jennifer Phan
