Hello Division 30 South, If you don’t know me, my name is Christina Nguyen and I’ll be serving you, the beloved suns, as the Lieutenant GOVERNORS for the 2021-2022 term. Words can’t express how proud and excited I am for the future of our division. For a recap from last term and DCON, Division 30 South has served 35,252.5 hours, raised $7,111.97 for the Pediatric Trauma Program, recruited 90 attendees for District Convention 2021, 15 officers were recognized for Distinguished Awards, Division 30 South was recognized with the Most Service Hours and the Most Funds Raised for the Pediatric Trauma Program out of all divisions in the California-Nevada-Hawaii District, and so much more. As numbers don’t define the amount of effort and love that you all have put in, it has proven that nothing, not even the pandemic, will be able to prevent Division 30 South from success, growth, and prosperity. More than anything, I am so honored and proud to lead you all, the members of Division 30 South, into the new term. I promise to give you my all in making your Key Club journey, quarantine or not. With passionate leaders and members, I believe that Division 30 South has the potential to achieve our set goals and so much more throughout the 2021-2022 term. We got this, suns. <3 SUN-cerely, Christina Nguyen D30S Lieutenant Governor 2021-2022

The March DCM this month was the last DCM of the term, and I'm really glad that we were able to end off the term on a good note! The DCM was also the Division Banquet, so it was a bit emotional and there were definitely quite a few bittersweet moments. First of all, we looked back at the term and went over our division statistics. I'm really proud that the division as a whole was able to serve 30,000+ service hours, because it's honestly really impressive! We also raised $7,000 through fundraisers, which is truly amazing, considering the many setbacks we've had this past year. I really hope that all these hours and funds raised have made a positive impact to our community :D There were also Division Banquet Awards, which was really exciting because OAKC won a few. :) We won the Distinguished Service Award and the 100% ORF Submissions on Time Award. Timmy also won President of the Year!!

I'm really really proud of what our club has accomplished this past term despite all the challenges we've had to face, and I'm looking forward to continuing this awesome legacy in the upcoming term as well!

Finally, there was an open mic session and a bunch of speeches that were very heartfelt and emotional. During the open mic session, it was super fun to see so many OAKC freshmen volunteer to speak and share their memories from the short time they've been in the club. I'm glad Key Club has already made an impact on their life, and it was especially really exciting to see so many spirited and dedicated new members! We ended off the Banquet with a recap video, which was honestly the highlight of the event. It made me really happy, but I do admit that it was a bit sad looking back at all the fun memories we've made this past term despite being virtual. I'm really going to miss the seniors that are leaving soon :( but good luck to them in college! <3

From Thursday, February 4th to Thursday, March 4th, John F. Kennedy Key Club held a service event by working alongside a group of IB students. The students reached out to our President, Beverly Nguyen if the club could help make the project by including it as part of the club’s volunteering events. Members do not have to write their names on the letters. The letters are addressed with “Dear doctors and nurses”/ “Dear caregivers” / “Dear Staff.”There are several ways of conveying the message, whether they are handwritten letters, digital letters, or meaningful short videos (less than three minutes), that all hold equivalent meanings as receiving nice and encouraging words would make anyone feel content about themselves. For each letter or video created, members can gain one hour of community service. By submitting the submissions to Erika Alunan or Cybelle Zozobrado, all the letters and videos will be gathered and then compile into one file. When submitting the letters or videos, members have to state their name, student ID number, grade, and that they are in Key Club so their hours can be recorded into Key Club’s hour’s spreadsheet. The file would late be sent to the Fountain Valley Regional Hospital for the staff to view messages of appreciation for all of the work they have done for everyone. It is best to honor the heroes of the year who are doing their best to keep everyone safe, especially during this time of the pandemic. Writing a letter to someone is a great way of expressing feelings and say what is on one’s mind, whether they send the letter or not. Being able to express how one feels and what one thinks impacts them on a cellular level. Words have power depending on the way they are expressed and that writing a letter or showing gratitude to someone conveys a meaning message that can feel abstract. It is a normal instinct for people to gain a desire to express one’s thoughts and a letter or video can do that in a way that can be preserved. I personally enjoyed writing the letters I have made. I am grateful for anyone in the medical field as they are risking their time and reputation to help someone feel that they have a purpose to live for. They have especially been very busy due to the events of the coronavirus however, by writing out my thoughts down to be sent to them is truly an honor. It is a great opportunity for members to express appreciation and bring smiles onto another person’s face for all of the accomplishments they have achieved.

★ WHAT IS THE “DIVISION LEADERSHIP TEAM”? Division Leadership Team , or more commonly known as DLT, are the cabinet members who work underneath the Lieutenant GOVERNORS , or LTG, in the division. Anyone from the 12 schools in our division can be a part of this team and each officer has a certain job, just like a club cabinet. It is made up of the presidents from each school and also appointed officer positions. These positions include Executive Assistants , who work closely with the LTG, Division News Editor, Publicity Coordinators, Service Project Coordinators, Historians, Fundraising Coordinators, Member Recognition Chair, Spirit Gear Coordinator, and Spirit Chairs . ★ WHY SHOULD I JOIN DLT? Joining DLT is not only a great way to become more involved in Key Club, it is also an incredible learning experience where you can pick up skills in responsibility, time management, and more! You will also be able to meet lots of different people from Division 30 South , and become closer with officers from a wide range of schools in the Orange County area! ★ WHO CAN APPLY & HOW DO I APPLY FOR DLT? You do NOT need to have a position in your club cabinet to apply for DLT! However, you must be a dues paid member of Key Club, and active members who often participate are encouraged to apply (no prior experience is necessary!). Your application may consist of questions for you to answer, supplement work based on your preferred position, and an interview for the Executive Assistants ( may vary this term ). Further information on each individual position’s responsibilities and applications will soon be available via the Division 30 South official Instagram and Linktree, so be sure to look out for it!~ ★ WHAT ARE SOME OF DLT’S RESPONSIBILITIES? In addition to your individual position’s responsibilities and tasks, members of DLT must attend monthly DLT meetings as well as attend all of our Division Council

Meetings , or DCMs, which they will have the opportunity to lead games or projects in. The workload may range depending on your position as well as the current LTG’s dedicated tasks, so if you have any questions, your LTG would be the best person to ask! ★ MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH DLT / ADVICE : Applying for DLT was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my Key Club journey. I served as Division 30 South Historian for the 2020-2021 term, and though we couldn’t fulfill all of our tasks due to the current circumstances, we were still able to come up with tasks and keep ourselves actively involved in the division. I was able to become close with my co-Historians from other schools and make friends with other officers as well! If you are having doubts or considering applying for DLT at all, I would encourage you to do so! While serving on DLT, be prepared to come up with new ideas for the division and help out your fellow officers! Being on DLT also comes with the responsibilities of participating in our club cabinet, which is not required, but I would heavily encourage it. For those who may have a division position and no club position, be sure to continue to participate actively in your home club and attend weekly club cabinet meetings as well, though they are not mandatory. Make the most out of your term, since you will be able to meet new people in both your home club and division! Do not take this opportunity for granted!~ GOOD LUCK & STAY SHININ’ SUNS! ☀☀
