A LETTER FROM YOUR

division news editor Hello Suns!

Can you believe it’s already 2019? I can’t! I hope everyone’s been enjoying their winter break; I know I sure am! Although I wasn’t very pleased with my first semester grades, I know that it’ll only motivate me to work even harder for second semester. The thought of college is also looming in my mind. Although I can’t wait to start a whole new chapter of my life, I also want these moments to last. I’ll miss Key Club when I leave for college, but it’ll always be in my heart. It’s left such a great impact on me, after all. Anyways, what are your New Year’s Resolutions? Mine are to work even harder and stop procrastinating! And as always, keep shining Suns!

FALL RALLY SOUTH NOVEMBER 10, 2018 !! k c i t t s i r i p t s a h t ot We g

Brittney Le || Oxford Academy Fall Rally South. The most anticipated Key Club event of the entire term. An event that gathers Key Clubbers from California, Nevada, and Hawaii. An event that is full of spirit and fun and a lot of colors. After four years of being in Key Club, I finally went to Fall Rally South this year. Since it was my first and final Fall Rally, I wasn’t really sure what to expect, but I knew that I’d have a lot of fun, whether it be meeting the other people, being spirited at the rally, or going on all of the roller coasters. November 10, 2018. Division 30 South Key Clubbers met promptly at 5 AM, as the bus was set to leave at 5:30 AM. My day started cold, and the hoodie I wore did nothing to give my warmth. Despite how chilly it was, that didn’t stop me from having fun! As soon as we arrived at Six Flags Magic Mountain, we waited for about another hour for the park to open and cross security. After finally crossing over into roller coaster heaven, my group and I started our journey and made our way to Twisted Colossus and Goliath, a beautifully exciting way to start our morning. Afterward, we had lunch and

made our way towards the next event: the spirit rally. At our spirit session, we were up against massive groups of other divisions from our region. Thinking of last year and how close we came to the spirit stick, we did everything in our power to take the victory this year. And that we did. After days of practicing our cheers, we made each other proud. We all put in our best efforts, with the cheers memorized, and shouted to our heart’s content. Despite any hiccups, like when we accidentally cheered when Division 30 North wasn’t finished, our efforts proved worthy. Our beautiful cheers, loud screams, and big spirit paid off. We had finally won the spirit stick, after so many years. Even though I didn’t get to ride as many roller coasters as I had liked or paid for, I still had more fun than I’d ever have imagined. November 10th will always hold a special place in my heart, as it was the day we snatched that spirit stick and showed everyone what we’re made of. Being a senior, I couldn’t be prouder of our division and what we accomplished this term. Even though this is my last year in Key Club, it won’t be my last at Six Flags!

Uci mobile food pantry

Karama Al-Ubidy || Loara The Food Pantry provides so much help for families in need of food in our community. It ensures that nobody in the community would sleep at night hungry, or struggle to feed their family. Doing this brings a smile to children’s faces when they’re given apples or watermelons-foods they may not usually have access to. Foods are checked before being distributed to make sure it’s in good condition. Families who can’t lift heavy weight are provided with helpers to carry the food for

them. All sorts of volunteers from around the community help, such as college and high school students. We make sure no food is going to be wasted by giving more food to the people. If there is leftover food, volunteers may take it, or it's given to people who come back for more. Each student earns 2.5 hours for attending and assisting. It’s a great way for the community to come together for a good deed. It also helps students learn about the importance and meaning behind volunteer work.

CMN’s various fundraising partners and programs support the non-profit’s mission to save and improve the lives of as many children as possible. All CMN contributions directly benefits hospitals purchasing up-todate equipment, training staff, conducting life-saving research, implementing outreach programs, and providing health care for children whose parents cannot afford to pay. What is your favo 14 Schools. 14 Presidents. And 29 Members of the Division Leadership Team. It’s crazy to think we 29 individuals are leading hundreds of Key Club members everyday at general meetings to service events. But we do it, and it while it may be a lot of tedious, tiring work, this is what we love to do, it’s our passion. Being a part of this team helps us connect with the same individuals who put in hours of their time to better their homes, schools, and communities while having fun as well. We all are unique and special in our own way, some of us are shy, extroverted, impulsive, happy, funny, and throughout Division events, we always have a good time whether it’s accusing each other during Mafia or taking videos of Anjika on snapchat. L-O-V-E I LOVE MY DLT :))

orite part of DLT?

Cont. on next page

My favorite part of DLT would definitely be the aspect of being able to work with others. Having the opportunity to bond with individuals from different schools, and at the same time, serve the Division with them has honestly made me a more social person. From the various bonding activities that we conduct during DLT meetings which range from eating snacks to taking videos of Anjika, being able to spend time with this amazing group has made my life a lot brighter. Overall, being given the opportunity to support everybody on DLT as one of the two EAs, has also helped me branch out to more people, and at the same time, build closer ties as I mentioned before.

Leonel Contreras, Executive Assistant 16

In my first year of Key Club, I grew to love the inspiring community and wanted to encourage others to join and do the same. After missing the board application for my home club, I applied for the division leadership team as suggested by my sister. Three years and three applications later, I finally got the position. I decided to apply for member recognition chair out of all the possible positions because I felt that recognizing people for their efforts is a KEY part of what makes Key Club so significant. Recognition does not only make the recipient’s day, but inspires them to do better. I wanted to be a part of a valuable program that brings others happiness, pride, and spirit. As Member Recognition chair, I get to know the hardest working, most spirited, and overall excellent Key Clubbers in our division. While only one person or one club gets chosen for the award, reading through all the recommendations reveals all of those who make our division the wonderfully active and inspirational way it is. And being on the division leadership team, I was able to connect with the division more overall. Although it’s only a couple months past half of the term, I’m excited to see the great accomplishments of and recognition for our division and hope for even greater accomplishments and new recognition for the the next term!
