a. letter. from your news. editor! Hi Suns! Congratulations to everyone who took and finished their APs! The stressful season is now over and it’s time for summer! The term has recently started in April and already many events have passed! From Division Banquet: Starfall, to April DCM: Sunshine Olympics, to Eliminate Week, to May DCM: Service and Chill, we have already hit many milestones as a division. From picking our new Division Leadership Team, to hosting Eliminate Week in the majority of our schools, to having our second DCM of the term, I am constantly amazed at how close our division is and what amazing things our division can do. Keep up the amazing work and spirit suns! Although summer is coming up, what better way to spend your summer than coming out to division events and serving with our ohana? What makes Key Club different than other clubs is that we are extremely active, even during the summer! Be on the look out for more amazing events coming out in the summer! Hope to see you all there!

a letter. from. your lieutenant governor! What's Poppin', Division 30 South? Can you BEElieve that we are already two months into the term? It felt just like yesterday when the 2019-2020 term started at DCON, and we have already hosted 2 Division Council Meetings, 3 Division Service Events, and raised +$3500 for the Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus! The impact we have created within the past 2 months is truly inexplainable and I would like to thank each one of you for your endless contribution to Key Club. Every single one of you make Division 30 South the strong, mighty and bright division that it is and I am truly so lucky. So lucky to be serving a group of passionate and caring individuals who truly want to give back to their communities, so thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for being such kind servant leaders. We still have 10 more months and the Pediatric Trauma Program season is about to start, so BEE sure to keep buzzin' and shinin' through your valuable contribution to our preferred charities, your service to the community through volunteering, and by attending our division events! With that, please feel free to reach out to me and talk to me at division events because I am an open book who wants to talk to all of you and bond with you! Thank you for making me feel at home whenever I am at a Key Club Event.

APRIL DCM: SUNSHINE OLYMPICS

by: ivy vi | western high school The month where the term ends and starts! What a sad, but joyous celebration and to make matters better we have the very first DCM of the term!! Opening the meeting on the last Saturday of April allowed for many participants to show up. I was hearing people hyping the event up and I can’t lie but say I haven’t been doing it myself either (shh). Coming a little early, I saw the new presidents working delicately, preparing for all the fun activities coming up. This gave me extra time to chat with members and paint on Western Key Clubber’s faces to show that pioneer spirit!

Finally the DCM rolls around and going to the pledge, sharing experiences from different events such as DCON and setting new goals gave me lots of nostalgia despite only being a junior. Anthony Ontiveros from Western was a brave soul to volunteer and share some of his experiences as well several other wonderful members from other schools. At the end of the meeting, DLT was announced! Congratulations everyone! Here comes the part everyone is excited for, the activities! Each high school was apart of a group for the games. From balloon popping, this crazy hula hoop hopping game, poncho and more, everyone was getting pretty thirsty and Western Key Club happened to be selling boba! There was also cute Oxford merchandise that members couldn’t resist snatching one as well. To end the DCM, our group rose their way from being the first group to sit down in poncho to being ranked first in the competition. We were completely thrilled and appreciative of all the participants. What was the best thing for me to head about this was new members that told me they enjoyed the event more than they expecting personally and that really brought up my spirits!

DIVISION LEADERSHIP TEAM

DIVISION BANQUET by: josie nieh | whitney high school In the past 12 months, Division 30 South has soared above and beyond, surpassing not only our service and fundraising goals, but increasing our passion and spirit for the community. Just as the famous proverb goes, “all good things must come to an end,” this term has come to an end as well. On Saturday, April 20, 2019, 12 schools came together at the Brookhurst Community Center to celebrate all we have accomplished in the past term and look back at all the memories we’ve made, while eating some yummy pasta and bonding with our fellow Key Club friends. As a division, our schools have dedicated 30, 232 hours to service, being awarded the division with the most service hours in the whole California-Nevada-Hawaii District at DCON! We were also able to raise $7008 for the Pediatric Trauma Program, over $3000 for the Eliminate Project, and fund a well for the Thirst Project raising over $12,000! Not only has our division excelled in service hours and fundraising, but we have also won, not one, but TWO spirit sticks this past term. Division 30 South Suns won one of the the four spirit sticks at Fall Rally and one at DCON 2019. To see so many high schoolers on fire for service was truly inspiring and pushed me to work harder to serve even better for my

STARFALL Listening to all the IP Presidents and DLT members speak at Division Banquet, my heart became so full. Everyone has had their own struggles and have come from different walks of life, but Key Club became our family and welcomed everyone in with open arms. I was reminded of why I fell in love with this club and how much the people in Key Club have shaped me into the person I am today. I know that one year from now, I’m going to have a hard time letting go of Key Club and all the memories I have made in my high school career. I hope to make the most out of every moment and leave with no regrets. I look forward to this next term, and I hope you’ll come along on this crazy ride with me.

& Why should new members get more involved? Maggie Vannavong Executive Assistant My Key Club moment is definitely my first time at Fall Rally South 2018. All Key Clubbers throughout the whole CNH district came together at Six Flags to celebrate our biggest preferred charity, which is PTP. My favorite part has got to be the spirit aspect of it. I’ll never forget the caravan of 30 South Suns running around the park looking for other divisions to spirit battle towards the end of the night. I believe new members should be more involved in key club and should be more educated in general because of moments like these. Spotlight on Service! Summer is almost here and ensure health and safety of our community is as vital as ever! Whether it be cleaning up a park where children play or hosting a fundraiser for PTP, there are many ways to get involved. One of the ways you can get involved is volunteering for beach and park clean ups, volunteer with local food banks and shelters, hosting a walk-a-thon to raise awareness, and beautifying an old park. By cleaning up the beach and working to provide more food for the community, we are working to provide a safe environment and ensuring that everyone’s health is looked after. To fundraise for the Pediatric Trauma Program, you and your home club can host a few fundraisers. Some ideas include, paying to throw pie at your board members and having a lemonade stand to quench the thirst that comes in the summer.
