A LETTER FROM YOUR
division news editor Hello Suns!
Are you ready for Fall Rally?! It s happening next month! It ll actually be my ďŹ rst time attending Fall Rally, so I'm really excited. How has school been for everyone? As for me, it s been pretty hectic, especially considering how college apps will be due next month! I can t wait to head off to college and start a new chapter of my life, but a part of me will miss high school. As for the underclassmen, I recommend you enjoy your high school career because you ll regret it in the future. Try to attend as many events and DCMs as you can because you never know what you might be missing out on. I was really shy my freshman year and afraid of stepping out of my comfort zone, but Key Club really helped me become less introverted! I really regret not attending events like Fall Rally and DCON when I was younger, so don t make the same mistakes I did! And as always, keep shining Suns!

AUGUST DCM: BLA
Helen Nguyen || John F. Kennedy
The fun-filled joint August DCM with the Division 30 North Rhinos took place on August 25th at La Mirada High School. The dress code was pajamas and it was interesting seeing everyone rock out in their comfortable clothes. The large room was bustling with energy and spirit as the crowd of Key Clubbers interacted with one another with big smiles. This event started off with a fun game and it was entertaining to watch everyone’s faces light up when they won a game of rock-paper-scissors. If you had lost, you had to crawl under the winner’s legs and soon enough, there were very long lines of people that went against each other! I could hear the frantic yells and laughs of many Key Clubbers as they crawled under people’s legs. Then, we had our monthly updates with our wonderful LTG Anjika and our division was filled with spirit as always. The main highlight of the DCM was making blankets while we watched “Mulan”, a Disney movie loved by many. The blankets we all made would be donated to an organization called YANA, who made care packages for cancer patients. This purpose for the blanket-making was very heartwarming and at the same time, watching the movie “Mulan” made me reminisce about my childhood. I enjoyed watching the movie because whenever a nostalgic song was played, everyone in the room would start singing. Being able to hear everyone’s voices join as one made this DCM quite memorable.
I
remember some Key Clubbers started singing at the top of their lungs when “I’ll Make A Man Out of You” started playing in the movie and that was enjoyable to watch. Many blankets were finished being made as well, so August DCM was a Hun-tastic success!

ANKET-MAKING Maggie Vannavong || Katella
The August DCM was a blast. I got to meet new people from D30S, as well as our sister division: the D30N Rhinos! I liked how this DCM was a joint DCM because joint DCMs are always so fun and exciting, as there is more to do and people to interact with. The icebreakers and games were new and odd to me, but nonetheless, I still had a fun time participating in them. In fact, I actually won the first icebreaker we did! I don't remember what it was called, but I remember it was an intense game of Rock, Paper, Scissors.
Blanket making for the organization YANA was also very eye-
opening for me because it felt good to know that you were helping people in need, and that’s what Key Club is all about. Every DCM gives me a chance to get closer to the people in our division, in other divisions, and even people from my home club that I don’t see often in school. It was relaxing to sit and converse with others while making blankets for such a wonderful organization. Not to mention, when everyone sang the songs during the movie Mulan, it was a beautiful sight to behold. This DCM in particular, made me feel extra warm inside since it occurred around the time when students were going back to school and we all needed some Key Club spirit to cheer up. The August DCM did a great job of relieving the pressure of school and homework. DCMs like this never fail to remind me why I joined Key Club in the first place. Key Club is so wondrous and I hope that everyone gets an opportunity to be a part of something as big as Key Club. I had the utmost fun and I can’t wait for the events and DCMs to come. I hope to interact with more people and be more involved with amazing organizations like YANA and to leave an impact on my community.

Isha Bhakta || John F. Kennedy On Saturday, August 2nd at the St. Irenaeus Catholic Church, excited Key Clubbers were handing out food to those in line. The lines were packed with people, filling their bags with an assortment of fresh food. At the event, we set up tables to put all of the food on, organized bread products onto the tables and bagged produce. Then, we were assigned to a certain station to distribute to the people at the food bank. There were two people assigned to each food and one person per line. Afterward, we cleaned the tables and put them back into the shed. We also took down the caution tape used to form the lines and picked up any trash left on the ground. This event taught us about the importance of teamwork. When we were setting up the tables and taking
them down, one person alone couldn’t carry the table and set it down safely. However, when two people were carrying a table, it was much easier and efficient. This event also taught us to be generous towards others. Lauren Byun claimed that she "liked being able to help people and find nice people who were also appreciative of students volunteering. There [were] also people who come every week that are very friendly (or have dogs). They were so kind and thankful to us, and it was made my day better knowing how happy I made them feel. Overall, I had a great time volunteering with my friends and making a difference in the community.

october focus background Kiwanis International and UNICEF have joined forces to combat maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) worldwide. This historic initiative, called "The Eliminate Project," will protect the lives of babies and mothers all over the globe and will help end this cruel, centuriesold disease. The final push to eliminate MNT requires $110 million and the dedicated work of UNICEF and every member of the Kiwanis family. The more than 100 million women, along with their future newborns, who will be protected through global MNT elimination efforts live in areas scarred by poverty, poor medical infrastructure or humanitarian crises. The Eliminate Project will also help pave the way for the delivery of other lifesaving services, such as clean water, nutrition and other vaccines.

What is your favo Hey Key Club cuties! My name is Rossana Leal and I'm your Member Relations Coordinator! My job is to build a positive relationship between the division and its members. I'm here to listen to all your opinions and concerns. I make documents of DIYs, fun resources, and special holiday ideas. One of my favorite tasks is making the chaperone gifts for the DCMs! I always put in lots of effort into making the gifts look spectacular! Being in DLT is not just fun, but an incredible learning experience. I've got to bond and meet several people from all over the division. You really get to see how much time and work is put into getting this operation to run smoothly. This has been a completely eye-opening experience that I would totally recommend!

My favorite part of DLT has to be the people and the fun environment. It seems like something that everyone says, but I really mean it! The family atmosphere is amazing, and all the people in DLT are all so friendly and are all such driven people, which makes working with them so much more fun! Aside from that, I love my job! Ricardo is such an amazing partner and finding events has always been right down my alley. It was my first position at my home club and now I am able to do it for a larger group of individuals who are ready to serve and are extremely spirited!
Justine Wu, Service Project 16
My favorite part about being on DLT is getting know the different types of personalities of the team from different types of school and even more than that, joking around and having fun. Being apart of DLT has been the most mind blowing experience that has ever happened to me. Getting to serve on this board along side my fellow peers, has made my love for key club grow, and flourish while having fun at the same time. Being tech editor has given me a lot of freedom to incorporate special projects into the division, which I feel uniquely exercised my creativity. Getting to watch this division grow from this side of view has been priceless. L-O-V-E, I love my DLT!
