A LETTER FROM YOUR
division news editor Hello Suns!
Christmas is in the air! What is your favorite holiday? Mine has always been Christmas because there’s always something so wonderful about the kindness and love that’s spread around this season. I absolutely love the idea of spending time with friends and family. Thinking back to Fall Rally, I was extremely glad that I attended!I loved meeting everyone, and the rides were so fun! Plus, we got that spirit stick! I wasn’t expecting us to win it after hearing how we’ve lost the spirit stick in years prior, but the division really pulled through! A huge thank you to the spirit coordinators and committee! We couldn’t have done it without their guidance and commitment to winning our spirit session!! A huge thank you also goes out to everyone who came to Fall Rally and gave it their 200% to win! And as always, keep shining Suns!

A LETTER FROM YOUR
lieutenant governor
What’s Poppin’ 30 South! Fall Rally South 2018 was yet another reminder of how lucky I am to serve Division 30 South as Lieutenant Governor!! You all are so amazing and your hard work and dedication to this club does NOT go unnoticed! At FRS 2018, our division reached new heights, in EVERY area possible. After months of hard work and practices, we brought home the Spirit Stick after years! We raised over $7,000+ for the Pediatric Trauma Program, breaking division records. We bought not one, but FOUR district board members. Words cannot express how proud I am of you guys. Our victories were not made by just one person or club, it was our entire division, united and strong that was able to achieve all that we did. As we reach our last 5 months of the term, I want to encourage you guys to not let Fall Rally be our peak. Let's make these last 5 months even more memorable and record-breaking that the first 7 months. Come out to DCMs, volunteer in your community, and NEVER let your division and KC pride stop. #frs2018

CONFERENCE CONFERENCE Pauline Doan || Oxford Academy As we approach the halfway mark of the Key Club term, things are beginning to become hectic. In preparation for Fall Rally South, the biggest Key Club event of the year, spirit nights, and a multitude of other events, everyone is undoubtedly running low on fuel. However, the Region Training Conference (RTC) was a great way to remind everyone of the true essence of Key Club. Other than the benefits you reap from the organization, such as service hours and a bonus to your college apps, Key Club is all about serving the community and giving back. Personally, I’ve been feeling very unmotivated with where I am right now. I’ve just been in a slump and haven’t been attending as many events as I would have liked to. That ultimately led to me feeling very disappointed in myself and having negative thoughts. RTC was the first event I’ve attended in a month, and it definitely reignited my spark for this amazing club. Being surrounded by so many people who share the same passion
as me is such an empowering feeling. Just feeding off of everyone's positive vibes instantly made my day better. I also learned very important tips and techniques for being a board member. Before I joined Key Club, I had a keen interest in organization and taking notes, which is why I’ve always wanted to take on the role of secretary. However, I was really hesitant about applying for the position because I wondered if people could recognize my capabilities. RTC helped push me in the right direction, and it motivated me to strive for my desires. I’ve decided that I’m going to work for this position because I love Key Club, and I want to help improve it since it has done so much for me. Even if I don’t get the position, I can at least say that I don’t have any regrets. After all, the potential to fail shouldn’t prevent you from reaching for success. RTC was, all in all, a beautiful time. I can’t wait for my next one, hopefully while serving as my club’s secretary!

Spirit Night #1
Vicky Lam || Katella On October 13th, Division 30 South held its first Spirit Night at Energy Park where we prepared ourselves for the upcoming Fall Rally South in November! Although the weather was rather unpredictable, with light drizzles here and there, the sun eventually appeared! The members were grouped by the color of the yarn we received when signing in. Once the event officially began, we began learning the cheers for the first round of Fall Rally with our respective groups. The Spirit Coordinators were very skilled at teaching the cheers and did so with ease. The most difficult cheer was the first one called "Countdown," but the rest was much easier. In fact, the coordinators even called groups out and you could tell who was and which groups were strong in the cheers. After the experience of going up in front of everyone with my group and screaming out cheers I barely learned, we continued the
“
night with fun activities such as "Poncho" and one with hula hoops. In this activity, you and another person from the opposite side of a line of hula hoops would jump in the hoops until you reached each other and play "rock, paper, scissors." The loser goes to the back of their line and the next person in line would start hopping. This would keep going until a person reached the end of their opponent's side. The competition was quite intense! Although my group and I only won once out of many rounds, this was probably my favorite part of the night. Last, but not least, we ended the night with a relay race and a spirit battle. The battle pitted groups against groups and it was rather loud and nerve-wracking as you had to pull out cheer after cheer from the top of your head. In the end, my group eventually got second place!
The Spirit Coordinators were very skilled at teaching the cheers and did so with ease.

Anaheim fall festival
Jamie Cinco || Savanna On October 27th, other members and I volunteered the at the annual Anaheim Fall Festival and Halloween Parade at Center Street Promenade. At the festival, we were assigned to work at a small station, helping children create shapes and animals out of pipe-cleaners. It was wholesome seeing the kids interact with their parents and siblings as they worked together on the activity. The event was a celebration of fall and an early Halloween. There were children and young teenagers dressed up for the occasion, and some families even went full-out and wore matching costumes.
Although I was not there around noon to see, I remember someone telling me about the kiddie costume contest, and how adorable each child was in their creative costumes. I really enjoyed the event since it was really fun. We got to interact with families and children, sparking some good conversation in the process. The people at the Kiwanis booth were really friendly, and it was really delightful to meet and socialize with them. Members should definitely attend these events more since they'll have a good time and make some new memories!

december focus background December is a time for taking final exams, finishing college applications, and fulfilling last minute resolutions. It’s also the time for giving gifts and giving back to your home, school, and community. While your schedule may be packed, remember to make time to give to those who are less fortunate. In California, Nevada, and Hawaii alone there are almost 541,000 children who will not get to spend the holidays in a home. The SOSP theme for December is “Providing Basic Needs because the CNH District believes that Key Clubbers can make a difference by hosting events such as toy & clothing drives, volunteering at shelters and soup kitchens, or giving a family a great holiday memory. This December, help provide families with the basic needs to survive.

Service Projects No-Sew Blankets Making no-sew blankets with your club is a great way to spread the warmth of service to your community! The blankets can be donated to shelters or hospitals, depending on their different guidelines. Several organizations such as Project Linus also provide guides online to creating more types of blankets, as well as information on where to turn in blanket donations. Materials:
Step By Step Instructions:
- Fleece - Rulers - Scissors
1. Cut 1.5 yard pieces of felt, or choose your own custom size. Make sure to avoid frayed edges when cutting. 2. Cut off all “selvage edges” and square uneven edges as needed. 3. Cut a 4” square from each corner of the fleece. 4. Cut a 4”x1” wide fringe around the blanket. 5. Using a seam ripper, make a tiny slit at top of each fringe piece. 6. Feed the end of the fringe through the back side of the cut slit and pull through to create a neat and secure fringed edge.

fundraiser Ideas Gift Wrapping for Charity While everyone’s out shopping for presents, your club can use this time to fundraise for the charities in your area. Gift wrappers are in high demand during the holiday season, and having members work a shift at a gift wrapping booth can also be a great way to improve bonds within your club. Dressing up in holiday-themed costumes, having music, or decorating your table are also great ways to attract donors. Materials:
Step By Step Instructions:
✦
Donation jars
1. Contact malls, shops, or anywhere people go to shop for presents in your area to ask for permission to set up a booth.
✦
Wrapping paper
2. Work with your club to create posters and to purchase tape, boxes, gift tags, and wrapping paper. Keep a budget so you know who to reimburse after the event is over.
✦
Tape
✦
Gift tags
3. Set up your booth with posters, a pop-up tent or shelter, music, and more. Make it festive and inviting. Make sure to have your donation jar out, along with a short description of what you’re raising money for.
✦
Gift boxes
4. Once you’ve finished wrapping each person’s gift, kindly ask if they’d like to make a donation. 5. Total the donations at the end of the event and donate the money.

What is your favo My favorite part about being a DLT member is planning events and making sure they run smoothly. Seeing the all the work done to make events fun and enjoyable really blew me away. The amount of dedication that these people put in their work really motivates through all of the work needed the keep the division running smoothly. Being a part of DLT is both fun and constructive. I have learned my different leadership skills thanks to the support of my fellow DLT colleagues. Without them, I don't know how I could have gotten through the term. In essence, you get to contribute to the community, make other key clubbers happy and grow as a person. That’s a lot of positives that outweigh the work if you ask me.

Just letting you know, I love being in DLT. It is simply great beecause I get the opportunity to spend time with all these amazing people that care so much about Key Club as much as I do and also wish to bring Division 30 South to new peaks. I love the fact that I get to come to DLT meetings and meet up with my team. These meetings do not seem like a waste of time or too much work for me, but it makes me so happy when I go beecause I get a chance to see all of my beeutiful DLT friends again. When I get to work together with my team, I always have so much fun, and it does not feel like work at all! Working with my team is always a blast beecause we are doing it together. I am so super glad that I applied and was chosen by Anjika Morari to be a part of the Division Leadership Team, beecause I have made many new friends and great memories here!
Ethan Hong, Fundraising 16
Being a part of DLT has been a dream of mine ever since I joined Key Club. Maybe because it was a new experience I wanted to live, or maybe because I wanted to network with key clubbers from my division, but whatever my motive was, I am so honored to be serving on the 2018-2019 Division 30 South Leadership Team. Fun fact, I tried out for DLT last year but I did not make it, but hey, I did not give up & you should not too. My favorite part of DLT is DEFINITELY the people in it! I’ve made a strong connection with so many of the current DLT members and I am so glad that I did. Everyone is so loving, open, & inclusive so I never felt excluded whenever I am around them. The people in DLT never fail to put a smile on my face and since it is the season, It is proper of me to say that I am thankful for everyone of them. Not only that, but it is also a plus when you are working under the great leadership of LTG Anjika Morari! She has pushed me to do my best and serve Western Key Club with my best abilities everyday! I am thankful for Anjika and for the rest of DLT for making this term by far the best one! If you are reading this and you are a freshman, sophomore or junior, I HIGHLY encourage you to try out for DLT next year because it will be a memorable experience you would want to be a part of!
