A LETTER FROM YOUR division news editor Hello SUNS!

I'm delighted to serve as your 18-19 news editor! Although I'm inexperienced with designing newsletters, I hope that I will become better throughout the term. As your news editor, I aspire to keep you updated on Key Club events so you can become more involved in your community. With this newsletter, you can reflect on past events and highlights of this month, such as the April DCM and DCON. I hope that it will be aesthetically pleasing enough that you'll be encouraged to share it with your friends. So a little bit about me... I'm an upcoming senior at Loara High School and this is my fourth year in Key Club. Wow.. time has really passed. I can't believe I'm going to be graduating soon! Key Club has taught me so much these past few years and I hope that I'll be able to learn even more. I'm looking forward to what this term has to bring! As always, Keep on Shining, D30S Suns! - Trinh Tran

A LETTER FROM YOUR lieutenant governor To my fellow Kiwanis Family Leaders, Hello, my name is Anjika Morari! I am a current junior at Whitney High School. I cannot express how honored I am to serve Division 30 South for the 2018-2019 term. I started my Key Club career in freshman year and I didn't know a thing about Lieutenant Governors, regions, or even divisions. To be here now, 3 years later, as Lieutenant Governor of a D30S is a once in a lifetime opportunity that I plan to maximize. Serving on the Division Leadership Team for the past two years has provided me with an innumerable amount of experiences that taught me the importance of work ethic, professionalism, and leadership. However, the most impactful change Key Club has brought out in me is my passion to better the world. It's easy to get caught up in our own lives and to block out today's current events, but being part of Key Club allowed me to truly see the global impact that teenagers can make. That is why my main goal for the upcoming term is to increase meaningful service projects. Here in 30 South we have members filled with passion, which is why I believe we can do so much more. More specifically, it is my dream that Division 30 South will build a playground for our local communities with Kaboom! as well as promote and raise money for the Thirst Project. Not only that, but I plan to maintain our fiery spirit and ensure that each and every member will grow in an encouraging environment, just like the one I was given. I will do my best to accomplish these goals and to build the future of Key Club along the way. Together, I know we can leave our legacy of the 2018-2019 term for years to come. I look forward to meeting you all in person and am even more excited to work with you all. With that, feel free to contact me at

DCON: SERVICE SAFARI APRIL 14, 2018

VINCENT TRAN || MAGNOLIA The 2018 District Convention, aka DCON, Service Safari, was held in Reno, Nevada at the Grand Sierra Hotel and Resort. After checking in, attendees were allowed to explore the grounds, and meet Key Clubbers from all over the CNH District. Once inside the Main Expo Hall, General Session included exciting cheers, performances from AJ Rafael, and recognitions for the many divisions that filled the room. It was extremely heartwarming to see 75 divisions expressing their passion for service, and their continued energy after a long day of cheering and bonding with others. Throughout the day, attendees were encouraged to attend amazing panels hosted by the District Board, as well as other Key Clubbers, offering educational and insightful information for all to see. Panels, such as the “Applying for a Position panel, engaged members and offered valuable tips towards their application process. At the end of each day, a spirit stick was given to one division to award them on their energy and enthusiasm throughout the day. DCON also signified the end of an era, with the retirement of past officers, and the installment of Lieutenant Governors, and the new District Executive Board. Overall, the District Convention offered new memories to all, and was a great opportunity to make friends, and meet new people with similar values and passions.

DIVISION

APRIL 20,

VINA NGUYEN || OXFORD ACADEMY As a shy freshman and somewhat socially-improving sophomore, I never had the courage to go to a big division event like the Division Banquet. It wasn't until my junior year that I finally broke out of my shell and attended my first Division Banquet. I regretted not attending previous ones. It was nice and heartfelt to hear the presidents’ last remarks on their term and speeches from the DLT as they talked about their KC experience and the 2017-2018 term. It was a rather emotional night and I felt like that was what brought everyone together—the memories and experiences we all shared. On another note, many OAKC members were recognized for various awards. Tobi Yao was recognized member of the year and I was recognized for Early Bird MRF and Secretary of the Year. Overall, the Division Banquet was a wonderful celebration for the end of the 2017-2018 term. It was a happy ending for our old LTG Vivian Bui and a new beginning for our new LTG Anjika Morari. I’m incredibly excited to see what the new term has in store for our club and division!

BANQUET 2018

DYLAN DARAVONG || LOARA My experience as Executive Assistant has been a wild ride to say the least. I’ve worked with these amazing people for a year and I wish I could've spent more time with them. I am so proud of my LTG Vivian Bui for sacrificing her time to give Division 30 South an unforgettable year. I want to thank her for taking me under her wing when I was so selfcentered and ignorant and transforming me into the leader I am today. Division Banquet has become one of my fondest memories because I got to see the seniors before they graduated and spend time with my Division Leadership team. The memories I’ve spend with Vivian, the new LTG Anjika Morari, and many others have been a blast. I anticipate Anjika's new term and I cannot wait to make even more memories throughout it. I wish the seniors a fun, new journey off in college and I hope to see them soon so I can tell them my new adventures and to hear what they have been up to. I want to see everyone in 10 years, where we have all grown up, and I want to enjoy the reunion deeply. I can only wish the best of luck to the new members of DLT and to bid the old DLT farewell. Until we meet again!

APRIL DCM

APRIL 28, 2018

ALI AL-SALEEM || WESTERN

What a sunny, exuberant, and energetic Saturday afternoon! The first Division Council Meeting (DCM) of the 2018-2019 Key Club term was officially ordered on Saturday, April 30th, from 11AM-1:30PM! The Division 30 South members from Anaheim and Cerritos were extremely excited to attend their first DCM and were beyond surprised with the activities that were planned for them. April DCM was an enormous success because it truly demonstrated the spirit that every member from D30S possesses. The clubs were divided into “buddy groups” and that group stayed together through thick and thin. Western Key Club was grouped up with Loara, Los Alamitos, and Servite Key Club. Our members demonstrated a huge amount of spirit and friendliness to the other groups. They included everyone in each move they took. As Western’s president, I am beyond proud of Western Key Clubbers for being such great examples of what a Key Clubber truly is. In addition, they kept their heads up even when they lost in a few games. My heart is full with love, happiness, and I thank every Key Clubber who attended the DCM. Lastly, one of Western’s own dedicated members, Rossana Leal, was appointed as the Division’s Member of Relations Coordinator. I am beyond proud of all the achievements Western Key Club has and will achieve. Considering the number of hours spent planning and organizing this event with the D30S presidents and LTG Anjika Morari, the successful outcome filled my heart with joy. My favorite parts included leading the activities, as it allowed me to connect with more Key Clubbers, and participating in the fashion show, which was extremely successful. I would not trade my time at the April DCM for anything else because of the spirit, energy, and passion that the members demonstrated. I am eager to see how successful the next 11 Division Council Meetings will be!

RONALD MCDONALD WALK FOR KIDS

APRIL 08, 2018

HELEN NGUYEN || JOHN F. KENNEDY Children flooded the Kids Zone while families with colorful T-shirts greeted each other. This was the Walk For Kids, a 5K walk/run that raised funds for services and programs provided by the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California. The money supports families with terminally ill children. It took place at the Honda Center in Anaheim on April 8th, 2018. In the morning, a ceremony took place where a speaker talked about his ill child. Right then, the purpose of the event became clear to me: to bring people together for a greater cause. It was very heartwarming and shortly after, the 5K walk officially began! A few volunteers and I were responsible for assisting the Kids Zone, an area filled with fun and exciting activities for kids. Here, I was assigned to the reptile exhibit ran by the Reptile Zoo, and I had the opportunity to hold a corn snake! It was fun seeing others being scared or interested in the snakes we held. Later, the man in charge brought out a huge python! It was so big that ten people had to help carry it! Seeing their excited smiles, my heart was filled with joy. From attending and volunteering for this event, I learned that when it comes to making a difference, a families’ love and support is the most powerful. Everyone who participated in the Walk For Kids made a difference: they came together to raise funds for terminally ill children. To me, that was what made this event so memorable and beautiful.

With summer on its way, it's vital that we keep safe and healthy! PEDIATRIC TRAUMA PROGRAM The Pediatric Trauma Program (PTP) is one of the CNH District’s largest preferred charities. PTP was established by Kiwanis Cal-Nev-Ha Foundation in 1994 in response to the serious need for education and training in pediatric trauma and injury prevention. Funds go towards training doctors, nurses, and first responders, the purchase of specialized pediatric medical equipment, and the development of community outreach. Through PTP, countless unintentional, traumatic injuries have been avoided. This summer, let’s try our best as a district to raise funds and serve for PTP!
