DANI STAHL Q&A BEHIND THE SCENES

Q&A: DANI STAHL

Keaton Row Creative Director, Dani Stahl answers your fashion & style questions.

Q. a.

What drew you to want to work with Keaton Row?

Q. a.

I'm constantly hearing about new and exciting opportunities from friends and colleagues in the industry. What first drew me to Keaton Row was the online aspect of bringing a personal Stylist together with Clients. After meeting with Cheryl and Elenor and learning more about Keaton Row's service,I realized this was something new and exciting that I wanted to be a part of. I really love l that Keaton Row is a company created by women that focuses on being creative in the workplace. As a Stylist, you're sense of style and your advice is valuable....you should get paid to share it with others!

How do you suggest newer Stylists go about building their styling business?

Q.

It's all about communication. There are more ways to efficiently communicate with others than ever before. The most important thing to do when starting your business is to build that foundation in your relationships with your Clients. You can create your own questionnaire to get more details on your Client's style or have a Skype session with them. Putting a face to the name and actually having a conversation with someone will help you to get to know their personality which will ultimately help you to gauge what styles you think they will and won't like. One final thing I would suggest is to have h a professional attitude. Just because you're not in an office from 9-5 everyday doesn't mean you shouldn't treat it like a meaningful job opportunity. The more efficient and professional you are with your Clients the more successful you'll be!

What is one must-have item you would recommend for Stylists to add to their clients lookbooks?

a. Definitely a great leather motorcycle jacket. It's the kind of piece you can dress up or down. I'll

wear it with a pairof jeans and booties one day and the next I'll pair it with a fabulous dress and wear it out for drinks or to an event.

e all have the desire to do something BIG, to follo w our passions and to work hard to make it happen. Che ryl and I came together to pursue our vision – to provide fash ion entrepreneurs a platform and community to inspire her to go after her fashion dreams.

The drive and passion of each Stylist who joined Keat on Row since our launch in Dec 2012 has helped bring our vision to life. We created the Keaton Row Elite Stylist Program to recognize the efforts and celebrate the accomplishments of our top Stylists during during this launch year. They are role models whose accomplishments moti vates my team and I every day. I am thrilled to feature and share Caroline Maglathl in's story with all our Stylists. We met Caroline for the first time over coffe e last February, to brainstorm ideas for her first Clients and to create her first Lookbook together. Today, she has over 100 clients and is about to close the first year of her Keaton Row online styling business with over $100k of sales . We couldn't be prouder of Caroline. Yours in Style,

ELENOR MAK

KEATON ROW CO-FOUNDER

ELITE STYLIST SPOTLIGHT CAROLINE MAGLATHLIN

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED WITH KEATON ROW? I was introduced to the KR co-founders by a very good friend of mine. I was extremely intrigued by the idea of the company and knew I had to find out more. I signed up to be a stylist for Keaton Row in January of 2013 and my experience continues to be even more exciting, intricate, and rewarding. Working at Keaton Row has also inspired me to take my styling to the next level. I am currently finishing my Fashion Styling Certificate at FIT. Additionally, I am now the Creative Director and stylist-in-residence at coop & spree (a NYC boutique opening this summer!). Keaton Row has opened so many doors for me and has kept me VERY busy.

Working at Keaton Row has also inspired me to take my styling to the next level.

WHY DO YOU LOVE STYLING?

I love styling because it is a form of self-expression and an outlet for my creativity. I pride myself on my personal style and ability to effectively market that style to others. The fact that people — complete strangers even — respect and actively seek out my opinion is a huge accomplishment for me. My creativy shines when I am helping my friends, family and now even broader network of Clients, piece together stylish looks. Personally, I always have a happier, more productive day when I feel good about my outfit. Therefore, I have made it my goal to help others to do the same!

LOOKS FROM CAROLINES FAVORITE LOOKBOOK:

Fall Trends

I make a point to follow up and keep in touch with my clients by sending them individual emails or hopping on the phone. The better I know them, the easier it is to put outfits together.

FAVORITE UPCOMING TREND FOR SPRING?

My favorite upcoming trend for spring is the crop top. This trend was pretty popular this past year and I am thrilled that it is here to stay. My style is more on the bohemian side, so I can’t wait to wear a crop top with a long flowy skirt this spring. I am also very pumped about rocking my new Vans wedge sneakers this spring. I love how even the most tom-boyish brands are incorporating this feminine and fun trend.

STYLING TIP TO SHARE WITH THE STYLIST COMMUNITY?

Do second-guess yourself. The most important attribute of a Stylist is to be confident—in yourself and in your choices for Don’t your Clients. Your Clients look to you for guidance and therefore want to trust your opinion and looks!

THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE IN STARTING YOUR STYLING BUSINESS + HOW YOU OVERCAME IT?

My biggest challenge at first was not being able to meet a lot of my Clients in person. In order to get a completely accurate sense of what they would feel and look good in, I thought that I would need to physically see them try on clothes (like I do with my local clients). Two things have helped me overcome that original assumption are: First, Keaton Row’s Client profiles are more extensive now, so I have a better gauge of preferences and personal style. Second, I make it a point to follow up and keep in touch with my clients by sending them individual emails or hopping on the phone. The better I know them, the easier it is to put outfits together. HOW DO YOU ADD A PERSONAL TOUCH TO YOUR BUSINESS? I think styling, by definition, is the adding of a personal touch to given fashion choices. My job is to make women feel confident in their representation of their favorite stylistic elements; I have found however, that I accomplish that goal within a framework f of my own personal style – in my Lookbooks, I typically filter first by pieces I would love and then from there, I choose the ones that I think my client would also love.

WHAT KIND OF ADVICE COULD YOU OFFER SOMEONE WHO IS JUST STARTING THEIR KEATON ROW BUSINESS? Whenever new Stylists sign up, I always tell them that the whole experience is really what you make of it. If you want to be successful as a Stylist, you have control over that. It is all about how you market yourself (and I think it’s best to start with your friends and family!) as well as the time and effort you put in. I dedicate a part of everyday to Keaton Row and it has really paid off! I am also super passionate about my business and genuinely ev enjoy what I do.

IF YOU COULD SUMMARIZE WHAT KEATON ROW HAS DONE FOR YOU IN THREE KEY POINTS, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?

Keaton Row has cemented my place as the first source for fashion help amongst my friends and family. It has helped me get my current job as the Creative Director and Stylist-in-residence of a soon-to-be-opened boutique. It has honestly given me a sense of purpose. I achieve great happiness from helping people get dressed in the morning and helping them choose how they th may present themselves to the world.
