Beyond Beauty and a Life of Love with Camila Negreiros
B
razilian Beauty----Camila Negreiros tells KEEL Magazine that “to love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance.” Camila knows that being a model goes far beyond looks, and it is more than just having a beautiful face with a perfect body. For her, it’s exuding a sense of confidence that is only attained by being comfortable in your own skin, which is emanated by simply loving yourself. Born and raised in the exotically gorgeous country of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Camila is part of a culture that is noted for possessing unparallel sex appeal and beauty; but as an individual, she knows where her values lie. “It’s is how you carry yourself as a person with your behavior. I find what matters most are your morals and beliefs.” she said with confidence. “It’s defining who and how you want to be in life.” And, as a young girl growing up in Brazil,
By: Joyce “JLynn” Gonzalez recalling moments when she played with her mom’s makeup and jewelry, she grew and developed a passion for modeling and fashion. But, she knew not to take life too seriously. “I am a realistic person and always try to do my best in everything I do---from the smallest to the most challenging of projects. The goal, for me, is to maintain a level of fun with all my pursuits in life,” she shared with great passion.”Because, once you do things merely with a sense of obligation, you lose that sense of joy for initially doing it.” Although she loves modeling and meeting people in the world of modeling and fashion; especially, once moving to the United States at the age of 22, and got more involved with the scene, Camila knows how to stay grounded and be true to herself. Though she signed with Arizona Model and Actor Management in Scottsdale a couple of years ago, Camila is also a professional com25
mercial underwriter and truly enjoys being part of corporate America. With all her professional aspirations, she always strives on doing her best as a professional; but, most importantly she seeks to discover the joy and passion with all her endeavors. “I love learning and working towards my goals, growing not only as a professional-- but also as a person.” Since modeling, she has had the opportunity of working with several designers and photographers such as Kathleen Tinkler with Mrs.Tinkler’s Evening Wear, Jenesis Laforcarde with Woman’s Touch Apparel, Anchi Lien at 123 Wink Studios in San Francisco, and Yoni Levy from Photography by Yoni in New York City, as well as many other professionals in the industry. She also participated in a benefit known as the Severson Sister Charity Fashion Show Event, helping to create bullying solutions and build self-esteem organizations for females---something that Camila was proud to be a part of. With all of these achievements and accomplishments, she feels extremely fortunate in having experienced all of this as part of her journey. And, now she feels grateful for having the opportunity to be featured in Vol III of KEELMagazine as the cover model. So, as a model and a career professional pursuing a different industry, when asked 26

the question of what defines a good model, it’s no surprise that Camila responded with a charming sense of confidence and described the overall person, rather than the model persona. “Modeling [goes] above and beyond beauty, it’s about having the ability to love yourself. It’s about respecting your own body and its limits, but yet having the capability of going places unimaginable due to your ambition and persistence. So, whatever you pursue as your career, you should never give up---always continually try; but always remember to enjoy the journey. Being a model is rising to the top, but still being humble and never forgetting those who [helped] you finally get there.”
“I don’t fear fame or fun,”
Camila further added, “I don’t fear fame or fun,” and shared one of her favorite quotes from a beloved and adored icon. A quote that she felt adequately portrayed how she models her own life, possessing this type of attitude and perception towards life: “Imperfection is Beauty, Madness is Genius, and it’s better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.” Marilyn Monroe

A Palette for Fashion Tastes with Restaurateur Rocco Sacramone By: Joyce “JLynn” Gonzalez
long with an appetite for fashion and a flare for culinary tastes, Restaurateur Rocco Sacramone seeks to satisfy one’s palette of delectable tastes. And, while dressed for a night on the town, with a chance meeting of smelling the aromas from his restaurant, Trattoria L’ Incontro, is an appetizing gem nestled in the neighborhood of Queens NY. Considered an oasis for food enthusiasts, Sacramone’s specialty of classically preparing urban-inspired Italian Abruzzian cuisine is a delicious wonder. As Executive Chef, Sacramone always dreamed of having an eatery, where people could meet, indulging in a savory of encounters for the very sophisticated gourmet food connoisseur. Gaining his inspiration 20 years ago, when a late and dear friend took him to an Italian restaurant named, Trattoria L’ Incontro, he knew that when he opened his first establishment, he would name his restaurant with the same name. In Italian, L’ Incontro, means “a place to meet,” or a “place of encounters,” and since opening his charm-

chic looks, blending luxurious fabrics of creamy cashmeres to exotic silks, Sacramone creates a medley of authentic flavors to please one’s palette with the same artistic creativity----using only the finest of ingredients. Learning most of his expertise for cooking from his mother, and using his exceptional talents of taking familiar dishes from his Italian hometown of Orsonga, a small town in Abruzzo, he marries together traditional homestyle family recipes of premium ingredients with universal appeal. “I 36
Though, he loves experimenting and introducing new succulent feasts of food, Sacramone also enjoys the many simple pleasures of life. “Most people may not know this, but I am merely [contented] with a little bit of pasta with some garlic and oil, and maybe a [hint] of infused lemon oil,” he said with a bit of humor. Along with expressing some of his many pleasures, he further shared how he feels a sense of fulfillment when guests of his restaurant can relax, unwind, and just enjoy an atmosphere of excep-

At Vino di Vino, guests can sample an array of wine varietals, ranging anywhere from earthy to buttery undertones with a velvety finish, and have some tapas before having their main meal. Guests can also opt and enjoy an after dinner drink, where they can socialize and mingle amongst friends and family before heading to their next 40
Within the competitive world of fine dining in New York, much of Sacramone’s longevity is a simple recipe for success. “I don’t compete with other restaurants,” he shared with a sense of ease. “What I do is create a place where people will love my food, the service, and the [atmosphere]. My goal, as a restaurateur, is to invite all food lovers to my establishment, so they can enjoy the upscale comforts of my culinary artistries. I strive to make an undeniably impression with my scrumptiously palatable entrees that will keep them coming back for more.” To read more on Rocco Sacramone and his restaurant, Trattoria L’ Incontro, or book a reservation, you can log onto his website at:

want to start by saying I’m not original, nor do I claim to be because, let’s face it it’s all been done before. However, I’m inspired, by my world and wherever it may take me. It is through this inspiration that I was able to turn my online portfolio into a fashion blog. As my blog began to receive recognition, which is all thanks to the support of my followers whom I will always be thankful for, I was able to branch

I’ve dreamed of being a stylist since I was a little girl and now thanks to all of you I get to do more than just that by showcasing my personal style online where I’m able to reach more people than I had ever imagined as well as leave a lasting impression, cause we all know once something is on the internet it stays there forever! Furthermore with every outfit I create and every model I style new inspiration strikes and I hope in doing so that I’ve been able to create an impact in the wardrobes, style and lives of all my fellow fashionistas. Just like every design needs a well founded pattern to build upon, in a
similar sense my strong support system has become the infrastructure of my success. I’m truly blessed to be pursuing a career in what has always been my undying passion. I absolutely love what I do and if I’ve inspired you and your wardrobe, I’ve done my job and I will keep on doing it!

Her goal is to have her own hair show to showcase her personal brand during New York’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, but would also like to take her talents abroad to destinations such as Paris and Tokyo. looks, one would know that she would do well in places such as Tokyo---where the styles are distinctively different, but still exquisitely presented. This may be due to Kermani’s love for being on the stage with the desire to fascinate, having participated in hair shows early in her career. “I love when my work stands out,” she said. “I like to keep everyone wondering with a bit of mystery, leaving them saying, ‘Wow, how did she do that!’” Wih all her career aspirations, Kermani believes in the value of acquiring a proper education as a means to build her profession. She received her training and acquired her certification for cutting hair at the Academy of KMS in Santa Monica; and obtained her color certification from the renowned Redken Salon at the training facilities of New York. Kermani is always learning the latest techniques, treatments, and cutting-edge styles to give her a fresh take towards inspiring her creativity. She has also received her color certification in organic styling products under John Amanco; a mentor and professional that she looks up to and aspires to someday be. Ultimately, she wants to be an established and well respected Platform Artist with her own line of organically made haircare and styling products just as Amanco has attained in his professional career. Kermani had her own show this past fall during San Diego’s 2012 Fashion Week, and was featured on KUSI, a lo-

cal news station in San Diego. She has also performed professional styling for hair and makeup with several editorial spreads and publications such as RUNWAY, FINE, MODEL, and The Goods Magazine. Kermani also had the opportunity of assisting fashion designer, Jordana from Season 6 of Project Runway, with a charity fashion show event. With all of her accomplishments and achievements, Kermani hasn’t slowed down, continuing to keep her momentum as she progressively advances with her career. In envisioning the uniquely sculpted looks of Kermani, she has been known to be the “Edward Scissorhands” of hairstyling. She has the ability to take something so simple and sculpt it into a unique masterpiece, so that it becomes an artistic expression of fascination, wonderment, and beauty. Q&A
Leah Williams
KEEL: Who is Ruby Mae? LEAH: Ruby Snedigar was my maternal grandmother and Patty Mae Jacobson was my mother. Two Montana seamstresses that would be tickled pink I play with buttons. KEEL: Please share with our readers what a typical piece of your jewelry might include. Leah: Well I like to use vintage buttons, the kinds with shanks or hooks on the back. I’m not interested in the flat, four hole types of buttons so commonly found on regular clothing. I use hardware from purses, belts & lingerie. I like to modify classic clip on earrings, cuff links, necklace bits, beads and crystals and just about any other trinket I can find. KEEL: Are all your pieces one of a kind? LEAH: Yes and no. The bracelets and necklaces are all one of a kind and most of the earrings are too. I always name the pieces after the person who wears it and clients get such a kick out of seeing their piece named after them
Edited by: Keel Magazine
W
e recently had a chance to catch up with jewelry designer Leah Williams and we couldn’t resist asking about her unusual line of button
jewelry. To be honest we had never seen her style before and we were interested in featuring her pieces in the January issue of KEEL Magazine.

on my website gallery. I do too. KEEL: How long have you been making jewelry and do you make other kinds of jewelry? LEAH: I’ve made jewelry for over twenty years and the line of button jewelry launched in Spring 2011. KEEL: Why do you think your jewelry stands out from other designers?
LEAH: I think they stand out because I lean towards asymmetrical, whimsical items that normally do not go on bracelets and necklaces. KEEL: Are you surprised at the response people have to buttons? They seem to get so excited about them and I guess buttons are something I never gave much thought to. LEAH: No, I’m not surprised at my client’s reactions. To buttons. When they hand me their family tin of treasures and I return new jewelry pieces made from their dads belt buckle or buttons from their grandmothers church sweater or uncles military uniform, they are so happy and often are moved to tears. I’ve seen how connected people feel to their lost relatives simply by wearing their buttons. KEEL: It sounds like you do a lot of recycling old things into something new. Do you consider it recycled jewelry? LEAH: Well I like to call it up-cycled. My motto is “creating something new from items that were forgotten”. There’s just something cool about wearing a button or cuff link someone else wore maybe
a hundred years ago. KEEL: Would you say you find buttons inspiring? LEAH: Yes I absolutely do find them inspiring. I like to think about where they came from, did it pop off a dress while a woman was dancing, was the soldier scared when it was holding his coat secure or what color was the ball gown the crystal one came from. KEEL: Where do you find your buttons and do you only make button jewelry? LEAH: I find buttons from all over the world and I went to my first button convention last winter. Treasure hunting for buttons is half my fun. Sometimes clients have their own family buttons and sometimes they use mine. Opening a fifty-year old tin can of buttons feels like Christmas morning to me. I create beaded jewelry as well but it’s the button jewelry that really floats my boat. KEEL: What would you tell our readers about the importance of sentimental jewelry? LEAH: I would say it’s very rewarding to up-cycle items they already own into something fabulous and new. Also, take a second look at previous boyfriend jewelry, broken watches, singlet earrings, and all the other objects lying lonely in their drawer. Send it to me, I’d love to make them something new.

all it our raison d’être. Or maybe it’s an obsession. But, we have been sussing out each class of new designers for the Next Big Thing, because nothing excites us more than the cycle of discovery: the first well-placed editorial, and then, the very fashionable frenzy. We found ourselves designer Catherine Zerbe, couture designer of Cajena Couture whose name roots
196
from the combination of Catherine, Jessica and Gina: her and her daughter’s names. This family oriented woman is self-taught. Her work within many areas of the fashion world since 1991 have helped her create a huge cliental base; a combination of working in retail sales, management, commercial arts, having her own custom design business for private clients,
making women’s suits, dresses and evening gowns for 16 years has made for a well rounded woman. Catherine creates the design and constructs the first sample herself using old style tailoring, while paying attention to details such as every stitch. The process ends in a
love what she designs. One of Catherine’s favorite moments was when a mother turned around to her and said, “Oh my goodness I have never seen my daughter smile like that!” The garments are original, unique and created by a perfectionist. Catherine is very intui
ive, has a laid back approach and is very honest with people. A lot of research, quality fabric, following curves, but not too much, and an all business oriented attitude have led her towards her dream. When Designing and sewing is Cathe- she started her new venture to crerine’s passion. What builds her ate a collection of her vision she inspiration is the way people just found that color contrast and addwell-constructed garment personalized for each person who wears them, which leads to smiles from ear to ear from her well know clients.

ing a few unique sewing techniques added originality to her product. Her ideas just spring from inside without any notice, she does not try to copy trends or other designers looks;
everything is original from the mind of a true artist while entering into the American style consciousness. Catherine is creating a wholesale line in Georgia and retail base in Oakland Gardens. Her product is manufactured in the United States. Catherine’s goal is to have her designs worn and sold internationally. Her work has been in an Au198

This woman has a career that so many of us dream of – a career that she not only loves but is beyond rewarding. Sounds perfect right? What makes her so inspiring is that through all of her stages, she’s just been herself – doing what she knows and loves. As a teen, Ericka was signed with John Robert Powers Modeling agency, where she took courses on poise and confidence, among other things. That was just the start for this powerhouse. was putting on makeup around me I’d watch with enjoyment. For me the best part of a makeover show on television is not the excitement of the shopping sprees and the fancy clothes but the makeup portion of the show. One of my favorite make over show is TLC’s hit show “What Not to Wear”, with Carmindy, I love watching her work her magic on the guests, her simple and classic looks is exactly my style. When I’m working with a client I approach them as if I were putting my own makeup on, if I wouldn’t wear a particular look I’m not putting it on my clients face. My style is simple and

y name is Faneeza Ameerally-Badrinath, born in Guyana, South America I only recently started doing makeup professionally. classic with a little touch of sexiness by adding smoky eyes or a glossy lip. However I do like to try new look and when a client has a special look they’re going for its an exciting challenge. My journey as a makeup artist officially started a few years ago when I was laid off of my fulltime job as a social worker. Around the time leading up to that my friends would ask
me to do their makeup for whatever special event they had to attend, and before I knew it I was the go to friend for dolling the girls up for a night out. I happily took on the role because I was doing something that I enjoyed, something that was fun for me. Some of the girls would encourage me to make up business cards and hand then out “just to see what would happen”. Then, I lost my full time job and after thinking about it I figured why not do it, I’ve got nothing to lose. And now here I am now, a self thought makeup artist. I didn’t attend cosmetology school or taken special classes to learn the application of makeup, I’ve learned through observation and having passion for something. During this short time I’ve been blessed with being able to work with so many wonderful people doing something I absolutely love. Enhancing the beauty of a woman with just a little touch of color and making her feel beautiful and confident about herself makes me feel accomplished and that’s a wonderful
feeling. I have also been blessed with returning to the social work field and I’m excited about this new journey I have ahead of me as a makeup artist. Most of all being part of Keel Magazine NY Division Make Up Artist team is the best.

Continued from page: 230 even the smallest morsel of wisdom that she has to teach, the stars are yours to take. Being a leader that is leaving a definite impression in her field, she also is leaving a statement with her fashion choices everywhere she goes. Growing up with a passion for fashion, Erika has always loved to make a statement, and I do not just mean with her actions. I am sure she has singlehandedly started many trends and has had a strong influence on the simple aesthetics we see in fashion today. Wala is also noted for her meticulous work ethic and clear vision – a real powerhouse to say the least. Ericka intends to help others see their beauty, find confidence, reach out, make a difference and to eventually bring the whole world together and unite. Ericka stays out of the limelight and while I doubt it is any ambition of hers, I’d like to think that she would rock the very foundations of the fashion world if she would ever come out with her own line.

1. Always remember there is a silent ‘u’ in fashion. YOU set the rules. YOU break the rules. YOU bask in your success. YOU drown in your failure. In fashion, no one has ever been right. Fashion is an art just like many others and you create your own masterpieces. 2. Organize. How are you ever going to know what is in your closet if you cannot see it? Organize your clothes, shoes and accessories for easy pickings when you need a quick choice for a night out on the town.

3. Use primer. Do not skip the primer when putting makeup on. This is your last warning. Primer is used to help makeup stay on for a longer time as well as smoothing out your complexion and erasing blemishes. Oh, so now you want to use it! 4. Make your own trend. Do you like to wear gold with silver? I wouldn’t dare, but I am not you. Confront the world with your own trends. You do not always have to be right in line with everyone else; although taking advice may be a first step in finding yourself. 5. Wash your face. Many unwanted pimples are due to the excessive use of makeup and the inability of a person to sit down and clean their faces afterwards. Instead of having to go out and buy 50 more unneeded products, clean your face after a long night and reap the benefits the next day.

want to see your dangling earrings, your gorgeous diamond necklace up against your neckline and your ability to pick the perfect tennis bracelet to go along with it.
on and Beauty Tips By: Kuala Maluki 7. Be worth someone’s time. Walk out of the house with the mindset that you are stunning and clearly reflect that on your outfit choices. If you look like the girl next door, everyone will treat you accordingly. On the contrary, if you look and act like a star; dressing up in a new pair of high heels never hurt, you will get the job done and be confident to continue to do so. 8. Wear a scarf. A scarf can go a long way in the world of fashion. With the different varieties of scarfs emerging, you could turn your plain skirt into a masterpiece with the wrap and tie of a scarf. 9. Dress internationally. Why be limited to the fashion of the country you live in. Become global like us and see the beauty in every country’s fashion. 10. Less can be so much more. Many women think you have to go to great lengths to achieve the perfect look with their makeup. This is untrue. With a good quality foundation, mascara, PRIMER, eye shadow and blush, you will not have to overcompensate for the lack of superiority.

A True Artist Camille the MUA
M
akeup Artist Camille Cabiad, is one of my favorite true “artists”. She was a Lead Makeup Artist for the Mattsaih Fashion Show in November of 2012 and is now a Motives cosmetics consultant and make-up artist. If you haven’t heard of Motives by Lauren Ridinger (the founder), I recommend you Google it now. They help you with your skin care problems by starting on the inside and working their way out, instead of just covering them up. Their cosmetic line is paraben free and works

By: Deirdra MacIntyre Cowen on normal to sensitive skin with only the highest quality products. Born and raised in the Philippines. Camille’s interest in make-up started at the age of 18. She used to go to stores such as Sephora, MAC Cosmetics, and Estee Lauder and would ask the sales rep of the steps on how to apply make-up. From there she learned on her own. As years goes by she began to receive compliments from my friends, family and colleagues. There were several events where Camille
would go out and she would give them a full make over. People loved it and she loved giving them the natural look and beauty that they were looking for. August 2011 Camille Cabiad opened up an Internet Cosmetic Franchise called Motives by Loren Ridinger and also partnered with Motives for LaLa Anthony, which has been published in multiple magazines throughout the United States. She was able to build her business during her free time and incorporated it with what she loved to do. It was a great way for Camille to earn an additional stream of income. Her biggest why of building a business was her family that motivated and supported her through the process. In October of 2012 she decided to take her passion to the next level. Cabiad joined a fashion networking page on Facebook, searched for events that she could participate and everything just began to head up hill from there. She recently participated in Cherished Bridal Show Event and Matt Matthias Runway Show. Meeting new people, gaining a lot of referrals such as potential clients at events such as those was a great stepping stone to really pursue her passion into the future. Based out of Milford New Jersey Camille has been published on multiple websites
such as: eventscharished.com, facebook. com/CamilleTheMua camillethemua.com and iheartmotives.com. Camille will not be stopping there. In February she will be sponsoring a charity event the help women in need and will be auctioning off some of her fabulous products will proceeds going to the charity. Her business now only has helped her grow professionally and personally toward her passion, it can also help those willing to learn as well, business opportunities awaits when the student becomes the teacher. Everything Camille
creates is amazing. She uses clean lines, fabulous colors and her work is always interesting. She has so much awe inspiring work that it was hard to narrow it down to just a few. If this doesn’t make you inspired, I don’t know what will!
