The official publication of the empire division Volume 1. Issue 6. December 2012
Happy Holidays Empire! I understand that this has been a long, tiresome and challenging semester for most of us and just like everyone else, I am so relieved for it to be over. However, at the same time, I am honestly
upset it is over. The crazier things seem to be, the better it tends to be in the long run. Use this time to reflect on all you’ve accomplished this semester and the amount of perseverance you had which in turn, allowed you to take over your actions to complete this semester. Remember
that despite the final grades or results of all your hard work, it is all over now. If you begin to feel a sense of unhappiness with the results, stop yourself and realize that you can always do it over a second time and do it even better or better yet, simply adapt to what “went wrong” and make the best out of it. Always remember that as a member of the K-Family, it is your everyday duty to portray the best “you” to the world and be that servant-leader that not only does good, but inspires good. This semester was a lot different in comparison to the rest of my life and I have learned so much, I hope you can recall the same after some reflection and I hope that we can all find time to share stories over break. Finally, I hope this newsletter serves you well and let’s welcome 2013!

College’s annual, Rock to
Eliminate, battle-of-the-bands event on 12/6/2012. Not only
did they show up to support but they got into the CKI spirit and helped recruit attendee’s that night! They continued to show their support to their new friends in the division by supporting another club at Queens College the following week. We are proud to have them as our new members and know that they have potential to grow into strong servant-leaders.
Congratulations St.John’s CKI for being approved! This year on Thanksgiving, the student government at St.John’s University officially approved Circle K as an on-campus organization. We know that the charter paperwork is all filled out and ready to be sent to CKI, the check for dues has been cut and they are working on recruiting new members. Best of luck for the spring semester and keep up the good work, we, Empire, NYCKI and Maspeth Kiwanis are here to support you with your future endeavors.

Service Spotlight:
Queens College Circle K’s 3rd annual,
Rock to EliMiNaTe!
On December 6th 2012, QCCKI hosted its 3rd annual Rock to EliMiNaTe
concert, benefitting The Eliminate Project and once again, QCCKI hosted an incredible night for all. They had attendee’s come from all over the area, including Vaughn College Circle K, Adelphi CKI, Bayside HS Key Club, Bryant HS Key Club, Martin Luther Key Club, as well as the support of other clubs at Queens College. Six local bands volunteered to play in order to fundraise to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) by 2015. Videos providing information on the gruesome effects of MNT played throughout the night, emphasizing that $1.80 could save the lives of a mother and all her future children. The club also successfully educated all the attendee’s by posting facts on MNT throughout the student union ballroom. By the end of the night, $327.85 was rasied, saving at least 364 lives! This was all possible because of the bands, the attendee’s and of course, the members of QCCKI who stayed out to execute the event smoothly. Congratulations and we look forward to your spring event!
