Our end of the year large scaled divisional project for the Kiwanis Pediatric Lyme Disease foundation will be…
Empire Body, Mind and Service! We will be hosting a Zumba-thon/Yoga fundraising event and right now it is scheduled for Saturday March 2nd 2013 from 12:005:00PM at Bayside High School. The day after, Sunday March 3rd, we will be doing a smaller divisional fundraiser (possibly a bake sale, maybe a yard sale, maybe a cup noodle sale, we’ll find out later!) followed by a dinner at a restaurant to where a portion of our bill will be donated to KPLD. Make sure you keep this weekend open and join us!
Children are at the highest risk of acquiring Lyme disease due to their active lifestyles which usually involve a lot of outdoor playtime and outdoor sporting events. Studies have shown significant IQ drops in students with Lyme, serious psychiatric symptoms, as well as cognitive and sleep disturbances-all of which may easily go misdiagnosed.
KPLD Funds Update: $16.32 $7.62 $382.25
Total:
$406.19
Great job! Let’s keep this up. I know we can easily surpass $1,000 by the end of the year!

July Divisional: August Divisional: K-Family Picnic:
2
On Sunday, September 2nd 2012, members of the Kiwanis Family gathered together at Cunningham Park in Queens for a fun filled day of skin the snake, water balloon toss, and the exciting and infamous ninja. For only 3 dollars, Key clubbers and Circle K'ers experienced a great opportunity to reconnect with each other while being proactive in fundraising for the Kiwanis Pediatric Lyme Disease. The perfect 80 degree weather ensured many individuals to attend with high spirits in making this event a successful one. At 12pm sharp, a numerous amount of attendees were present and waves of enthusiasm were exchanged in meeting new members as well as connecting with old friends. The sprawled blankets on the grass and the obvious expression of enthusiasm of each individual was just the beginning of what would become a memorable day. At the start of the event, members were able to learn a little more about each other while passing a beach ball with various questions such as "what is your favorite service project" and "what is your life ambition." After, lunch was served with a choice of sandwiches, chips and drinks. More games and team-building activities were introduced such as "Captain's Coming!" and the high intense water balloon fight that left many drenched. For the rest of the afternoon, individuals enjoyed each other company whether laying on the blankets, playing football, or discussing future K-Family events. This year, the 2nd Annual K-Family Picnic raised $381 for lyme disease, an increase from last year's event. Fundraising wasn't the only thing that improved; member attendance demonstrated a significant growth as well. The joint efforts of 4 branches of the Kiwanis Family and 31 clubs in attendance proved how attainable it is to make a significant impact on those around us. With the support of Glendale Kiwanis, the 2nd Annual K-Family Picnic was a great success. Circle K attendees included Queens College, St.John’s, SUNY Albany, SUNY New Paltz, Stony Brook, Adelphi University, Five Towns College, Columbia University, Cornell University, The College of New Jersey and Monmouth University. Key Club attendees were also high in representatives: Brooklyn Tech, Edward R. Murrow, Midwood, Forest Hills, Richmond Hill, Garden School, Aviation, William Cullen Bryant, Queens High School for Sciences, Bayside, Francis Lewis, Baldwin, East Rockaway and Bronx Science. In addition, Cambria Heights, Glendale, East Meadow, St. Albans, and Jamaica Kiwanis Clubs attended as well as the East Rockaway Builders Club. A total of 120 members of the Kiwanis Family turned a mere 5 hours into a successful and unforgettable day for all attendees with the promise of an enjoyable experience for the upcoming year. Kiwanis
The Kiwanis year is in its transitioning period right now. While the Key Club and Circle K year runs from April to April, the Kiwanis year runs from October to October. They held their District Convention in Niagara Falls the weekend of August 17th where they elected and installed the new NY District Kiwanis board. LTG Joseph Aiello was installed as the Governor-elect for the 2013-2014 Kiwanis service year! With this said, remember to take the time to reach out to not only your Kiwanis club but also all the Kiwanis clubs in the area. Introduce yourself and get to know them. Let us all support each other to better our organization and our communities.
