What happened at Kiwanis District Convention (DCON)? Kiwanis DCON is very similar to Circle K DCON. The Kiwanis year operates from October 1st – September 30th rather than the Circle K year which runs from April 1st – March 31st. Similar to our DCON, during Kiwanis DCON, Kiwanians are educated about leadership positions, the latest recruitment strategies and service project ideas. At this time, Kiwanis also holds caucus sessions, a House of Delegates and elections for the new Governor-elect. The individual who is voted on begins their term at District Convention the following year. This year, Eric Paul, a past New York District Governor, was elected to serve as Kiwanis District Governor for the 2014-2015 Kiwanis year. The 2012-2013 NY District Kiwanis Governor, Al Norato was retired and the 2013-2014 NY District Kiwanis Governor, Joe Aiello was installed. It was a great opportunity to meet new Kiwanians and to show them what NYCKI does!

Happy Start of the Fall Semester NYCKI! I hope everyone’s having a great start to the fall semester. I know that it’s my favorite time of the year because I get to see everyone back together, ready to start fresh. It’s also the perfect time to talk to new members and to welcome them into the CKI family. It’s the time where different clubs may be approaching your CKI club to plan an event for later in the year. If you’re already stressed, don’t worry. You will get adjusted and learn to manage your time once things settle down. As you’re purchasing books, interacting with new friends and finding a campus job, don’t forget to make time to register for DLSSP so that we can all share our stories together! Celebrate the fall by walking for a cause! Leaves are changing colors and falling and the weather is nice, why take walk for a cause with your club? There are so many different causes that you and your club can fundraise for, walk for or volunteer at. This is also a great event for a large group of members to participate in to start the year. This year, walks will fall under the theme of our district project, NYCKI Health Initiatives: Get Happy, Get Healthy so you can even record it in your MRF!
