2024 AACA Museum, Inc. Night at the Museum Program
Welcome, and thank you for joining us for Night at the Museum. This year, we’re celebrating our successes, recognizing those who have made an impact, and spotlighting what’s “hot & cool” in motoring. This evening, we invite you to relax and join us for “Incomparable Stories from the Road” as we share America’s Transportation Experience.
Traditionally, Night at the Museum is our annual major fundraising event. This year’s event already promises to surpass previous years’ success. However, this achievement is only one of many. We continue to reach new heights in membership and have welcomed dozens of corporate and small business sponsors. In addition, we launched more interactive, innovative, and cultural exhibit components. These are designed to broaden the context and understanding of each display.
While we appreciate our accomplishments, we also recognize those who have influenced the motoring hobby and the Museum. This evening, I am pleased to welcome Corky Coker, our Automotive Heritage Award honoree. Also, we are pleased to induct four new William H. Smith fellows: Richie Clyne, Don Barlup, and Jim & Joan Aberts. Finally, we’ll induct David Cammack and Eddie Offutt into our Tucker Hall of Honor.
There are plenty of reasons to be grateful. As part of the Museum family, you have made our continued success possible. Thank you to everyone whose efforts help us achieve our mission.
Henry W. “Hank” Hallowell III, President, Board of Directors America’s Transportation Experience — AACA Museum, Inc.

AACA Museum, Inc. Automotive Heritage Award
O2024 Honoree
Corky Coker
ur AACA Museum, Inc. Automotive Heritage Award honoree is Corky Coker. Harold Coker opened Coker Tire Company in 1958. His son, Corky (nicknamed after the old “Gasoline Alley” comic strip character), started working for his dad by sweeping floors and cleaning whitewalls. He eventually discovered that he enjoyed working at the store and took on the small antique tire niche.
With the vintage tire trade in its infancy, Coker sold vintage tires out of a 500 square foot area in the back of their retail center, while their main business came from customers wanting tires for their everyday vehicles. It was a challenge to determine how to produce tires that were no longer being manufactured, and which sizes and styles would generate sales. To overcome the challenge, the company purchased discontinued molds from old factories and refurbished them to modern standards. When original molds could not be sourced, new molds were built from original drawings and blueprints. What was less than 5% of the business at that time, grew exponentially over the years.
Coker’s grandmother was a guiding light in his life, helping to instill deep faith and a focus on “doing right.” This enduring focus provides the foundation of his passion for his family, country, and industry. His dedication and support of the “old car” hobby are evidence of his enduring commitment to preserving motoring history.

Bill Rothermel is the Museum’s collections committee chair and secretary of the board of directors. He has served as the master of ceremonies of concours throughout the U.S. including Amelia, Boca Raton, Greenwich, Detroit, Radnor Hunt, Chattanooga, Hilton Head, and Cavalcade Miami.

William H. “Bill” Smith Museum Fellows
The AACA Museum, Inc. was created as a grassroots project that involved many different people and organizations. The group’s collaboration built a world-class Museum that has served us well for two decades and is prepared for continued success in the future. One person led the way in making the project a reality, guided the Museum in its infancy, and is considered as the “Father of the Museum.” It is Bill Smith.
Bill served as the Antique Automobile Club of America’s National President in 1979 and 1980 and followed that with 17 years as the organization’s executive director. He also served as the president and director for the AACA Library and Research Center. It is no doubt these experiences guided him as he helped lay the groundwork and led the charge to create the AACA Museum where he served as a board president, board member, and director emeritus. He earned many awards along the way including the 2005 Meguiar’s Person of the Year.
In the spirit of Bill Smith’s untiring devotion and dedication to the AACA Museum, Inc., we are pleased and proud to announce the 2024 Class of William H. Smith Museum Fellows. Museum Fellow status is conferred upon several recipients per year for outstanding contributions or service toward the advancement of the Museum. A committee of the Museum’s board of directors makes annual recommendations for the awards based upon nominations collected during the year.
We are pleased to recognize and welcome Richie Clyne, Donald R. Barlup, Jim and Joan Aberts as the 2024 Class of William H. Smith Museum Fellows
Fellows receive a framed certificate of membership and inclusion on the Museum Fellows plaque prominently displayed on the main level.
Richie Clyne Museum Fellows
Class of 2024
Richie Clyne has had a love of automobiles from the time he took his first car ride on his native Long Island as a youngster. He purchased his first car at the age of 12, a Ford Model A Sedan that was basically a collection of parts and pieces. Refurbishing that Ford taught him basic mechanics and cemented his love of the old car hobby. He still has that Model A and drove it earlier this year!
During his forty years in Las Vegas, Richie played a key role in two of the city’s most significant automotive enterprises. He and his business partner, Don Williams established and operated the Imperial Palace Auto Collection. This gallery featured approximately 100 incredible vehicles on the fifth floor of the Imperial Palace’s parking garage and was a highly visited destination for both car lovers and the general public for many years.
Clyne was also the moving force behind the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, which brought America’s greatest spectator sport to the city, opening in 1996. It now hosts NASCAR series races and has multiple racing venues on one site. Richie sold his interest in the Speedway in 1998 and moved on to other automotive ventures, one of which was helping with the formation and development of the AACA Museum.
He made many significant contributions to the Museum during his tenure as a member of the board of directors. His role as a planner and leader helped guide us to where we are today and brought many new donors and partners into our Museum family. He has also led by example, with a generous history of giving. In recognition of his contributions, the Museum’s redesigned entry portal, which is a period dealership showroom that we share with national car clubs, is named the “Williams-Clyne Gallery.”
Richie still spends time in Las Vegas, but now resides in New Hampshire with his wife, Sharon. He maintains a collection of about 100 vehicles and can often be found on a tour, frequently behind the wheel of a Duesenberg.
Donald R. Barlup Museum Fellows
Class of 2024
Don Barlup and his late wife, Carol, are founding members of the Museum. Their service to our cause goes back to the Museum’s first series of fundraising programs when they set up a booth at the AACA Annual Meeting in Philadelphia selling pins for $5.00 each to support the dream.
Don served as the inaugural president of the Advisory Council, which was the first volunteer organization for the Museum. This group organized the Museum Expo, which initially took place on the White Field during Fall Hershey, with Don serving as the chair for the first two events. The Council also ran the annual Museum car show before there was a professional staff. Don remained on the council until it was dissolved.
In addition, he served on the fundraising and building committees and was AACA Museum President from 2000 to 2001 when ground was broken for our Museum building. Carol and he ran the food stand for the Expo and annual Museum car show for many years.
In addition to being the second AACA Museum President, he also served as the AACA Library Board President in 2006 and AACA National President in 2015. He is currently a Director Emeritus on the Museum’s Board of Directors.
Don is proud of his service. He looks back fondly on the time he spent during the Museum’s formative period and after its opening to the public. He states that “many dedicated volunteers and staff over the last 20-plus years played a significant role in developing the AACA Museum into a world class facility. I am highly honored to be nominated as a William H. Smith Fellow.” We are honored to have him as a dedicated member of our Museum family.
Jim & Joan Aberts Museum Fellows
Class of 2024
Jim and Joan Aberts have been part of the Museum for almost 25 years. Jim is a retired Ford Parts Manager from Sloan Motors in Exton, PA and Joan worked as the office manager at Grove United Methodist Church in Wester Chester, Pennsylvania. While still working, they contributed significant time to the development of the Museum.
Jim was a member of the Museum Advisory Council and is proud that he played a role in developing one of the nation’s finest automotive museums. He and Joan became gallery guides as soon as the doors opened, a role they both continue today. His role expanded when he met Jeff Bliemeister, the Museum’s current Executive Director. Jeff was the curator at that point, and the two became good friends who shared a love of the Ford Mustang. Jim served as a guest curator, putting together a comprehensive display to celebrate the car’s 40th anniversary. This earned him the nickname “Mustang Jim” and led him to join the Museum’s exhibit committee, helping secure vehicles for many different displays. Jim also became one of Jeff’s “go to guys” accompanying him on multiple trips across the northeast to pick up donated vehicles.
Jim and Joan are both great with Museum visitors and enjoy sharing car stories with our guests, who always want to know more about our history and what we have planned next. Jim’s role as a Museum ambassador shifted upon retirement, and a move to Lancaster County, when he was asked to join us as a part-time guest services staff member. He has also provided numerous Museum seminars on the history of the Mustang and Ford Motor Company.
Jim and Joan have owned twelve Mustangs, with Jim restoring two of them. He has also built three race cars. They have been married 61 years and have a daughter, Sandy, a son-in-law, Scott, and two granddaughters, Emily and Vanessa. Along with family, the Museum is an important aspect of their lives. They are lifetime members and can still be found regularly in our galleries, sharing stories and information with our guests. Both were friends of Bill Smith and are honored to be part of the 2024 class of Fellows.
Last summer we celebrated the 75th Anniversary of the Tucker ‘48. As we focused on all things Tucker, we launched the “Tucker Hall of Honor” to recognize individuals who made significant contributions to the Tucker Corporation and the preservation of the Tucker legacy. Preston Tucker and Alex Tremulis, were obvious choices to launch the effort and became the first inductees.
This year, Tucker automobile and motoring enthusiasts were asked to vote for 2024 Tucker Hall of Honor inductees in two categories from a slate of nominations.
This year’s inductee from the corporation’s historic category is John Eddie Offutt, Tucker’s chief mechanic. David Cammack is the 2024 inductee from the legacy preservation category.
David S. Cammack
Aself-proclaimed “collector of Tucker things,” David Cammack was a leading authority on Preston Tucker’s life and the Tucker automobile. Beginning with the purchase of #1022 in 1972, he spent years collecting Tucker cars, parts, memorabilia and documents. He ultimately created the world’s most extensive Tucker collection. The Cammack Tucker Gallery includes three of the 51 vehicles, a factory test chassis, thousands of company documents, prototype and production engines, experimental parts, original parts, movie memorabilia, and a set of original factory blueprints. His tenacity and dedication to all things Tucker has preserved the story, artifacts and legacy for all to enjoy.
HALL of HONOR
John Eddie Offutt
An expert mechanic, John Eddie Offutt had been experimenting with rearengine cars in the early 1940s. On the salt beds of Bonneville, Utah, he ran his car at an average speed of 143 mph. Offutt was also an Indy race car owner. He worked with Preston Tucker and Harry Miller at Indy and ultimately became Tucker’s chief mechanic. He contributed significantly in building the prototype Tucker Tin Goose in 1946 and was the driver of Tucker #1027 that rolled over during endurance testing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in September 1948. He continued to innovate, repair and improve Tucker cars throughout his tenure with the company. His participation and contribution was key in making the cars that you see today.
This summer, we launched the “Accelerate” capital campaign.
We worked diligently to prioritize initiatives that help us achieve our long-term goals. These goals were grouped into three “plans” titled “Now,” “Next,” and “Future.” Together, the plans form a roadmap to ensure the museum’s legacy for future generations.
The Now Plan is currently underway. It focuses on items that are necessary in the near term: roof replacement, HVAC updates, surface water issues, and replacing the rotunda turntable. The cost is $950,000.
We appreciate everyone who contributed to the ongoing campaign. Find out more: www. aacamuseum.org/ accelerate-campaign/

FEATURED ARTIST
Dan Reed
Dan Reed has been working for 30 years as an automotive artist and has developed quite a following in automotive circles. His paintings have been featured in numerous magazines, such as Hemmings Classic Car, Old Cars Weekly, Cadillac & LaSalle Club’s Self Starter and others. His work has graced the posters of Concours d’ Elegance and Grand National events as well as on billboards. His work can best be described as photo realism with influences in art deco and mid-century modern. Dan is a long-time member of the AACA as well as the Cadillac & LaSalle Club. He currently drives a 1951 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight Sedan, which is often parked next to his artist’s tent at weekend car shows.
Once again, Dan shares his talent with Night at the Museum guests. This year Dan’s painting, “The Legacy: Mustangs on the Move,” commemorates the 60th anniversary of the first “pony car.” The beautifully framed 24”x36” acrylic on canvas juxtaposes modern and classic Ford Mustang. Please check out LIVE AUCTION ITEM #LA2 on page 33 to bid on this original framed artwork.

Danny Spec M
usician, singer, and song writer
Danny Spec has been performing live for audiences since 2019. With an acoustic guitar, a loop pedal, a healthy mix of genres, and some light-hearted banter, Danny conjures up the perfect repertoire for a relaxing night out. With a never-fading smile, he performs classics from James Taylor and Jim Croce to Ed Sheeran and Eminem (and everything in between).
Danny has entertained in small settings such as local pubs and private events as well as large venues including The Gem at Spring City, Phoenixville’s First Fridays, and Philadelphia’s Xfinity Live! Along with performing cover songs, he writes, records, and releases original music, and currently has four singles out on all streaming platforms.
Danny’s love of 1950’s-era stock cars was inspired by Jim Croce’s “Rapid Roy.” Among his favorites is the 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Sport Coupe. The Bel Air became the first production V-8 passenger car with GM’s Ramjet Fuel Injection system.
Danny would be happy to discuss at length the injustice of Jim Croce’s snub from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Forgotten Features
Classic & Cool Discontinued Options
Our “Forgotten Features” exhibit spotlights ingenious, unusual, curious, and oddball options from decades past. These innovations sought to attract buyers and serve the needs of drivers and passengers. Some were wildly popular, while others failed to resonate with consumers. The exhibit is a trip down memory lane full of fondly (and not-so-fondly) remembered automotive gizmos no longer available. Among the features highlighted are retractable convertible roofs, continental kits, slide-away steering wheels, hidden and pop-up headlights, spectator third-row seating, swivel seats, hidden fuel caps, windshield visors, hood ornaments, rumble seats, golf bag doors, T-tops, wood-grain side panels, and many more.
Shelby Mustangs
Williams-Clyne Showroom Gallery
A display of vintage Shelby Mustangs, presented by the Shelby American Automobile Club, will be on display in the Williams-Clyne Gallery. The exhibit includes three GT350s: 1965, 1966 and 1967 models.
