Youth Championship Men Welcome to The Rings for this Round 15 clash between your VYCM Ringwood Hawks and the Bulleen Boomers. Your Hawks (9-9) have come back to life, now with three wins on the trot. Last weekend started on the home floor as the Hawks took care of the Altona Gators. Neck and neck for most of the game, the boys put their foot down in the final term outscoring the Gators 28-8 to come away with a 15-point win (93-78). It was the biggest score we had put up all year. Jonathan Truman (12pts, 11rebs, 3asts, 4stls, 4blks) and Ryan Miller (16pts, 4rebs, 7asts) were nothing short of inspirational. Hudson Kuhnell (11pts, 5rebs) provided depth from the pine, as did veteran guard Mitchell Adams (11pts, 3asts, 4stls) in his long-awaited return to the squad. On Sunday, the group travelled to Eltham to take on the Wildcats. In a do-or-die game for both sides, the crowd were not disappointed. After a thrilling first period, the Hawks pulled away in the second and third periods, amassing a 22-point lead. Though slowed in the final term, we came away with the much needed W by a margin of 17 (95-78). A new high score just one day after. Getting it done again were Ryan Miller (19pts, 3stls) and Hudson Kuhnell (11pts, 6rebs). Coming back from a stint in the Champ Men, Matt Roberts (21pts, 5rebs) was stellar. A handy 13pts from Kaide Fittolani was also essential, as he went 9/10 from the charity stripe. The Boomers (20-0) remain undefeated. Boasting a veteran starting line-up with the likes of Solakidis, Kruger, Fayle and Rimes (undoubtedly an MVP candidate), they are well complemented with some great up and comers and solid role players. While challenged a little last weekend by McKinnon, a furious final term saw Bulleen overcome the Cougars by 16 (73-57). There won’t be any challenge bigger than this. Coming off a game last night at Sherbrooke, the Hawks will need to be at their best to deliver the Boomers their first loss. Providing a win was obtained against the Suns, the Hawks will need to get this one to ensure a chance at finals. Good luck to both teams.

How fast has this season gone. I cannot believe that we are now only weeks away from the end of the Big V season. As it stands, we still have all 4 teams in Finals contention but there is still plenty of work to do over the next 3 weeks for all our teams. Today we have a rare double header with the Youth Boys playing before the Champ Men. Our Champ wWmen have a bye this weekend and the Youth girls are at Eltham today at 1pm. The bad news we had this week was our great sponsors and home game pizza supplier Original Joes had a fire and have been forced to close its doors for a while. The good news is that they still have a restaurant in Croydon and we can still get our favourite Italian food. The Croydon address is 66 main Street, Croydon so lets get down there to support our friends. Regards Blake and Jen

Championship Men Welcome to the “Rings stadium for Round 15 of Big V Basketball. Today we welcome the Hawthorn Magic who currently sit in 10th spot with 5 wins from 16 games. Despite having an up and down season, the Magic have plenty of talent and have shown they are capable of beating anyone. Jack Barry and Josh Morrison are dangerous perimeter players who can get hot and score big numbers while Alex Bogart-King has anchored the inside all season long. Luke Sist, Kirk Smith and Pat McBrearty provide great depth and give Hawthorn toughness at both ends of the floor. Last week the Magic lost to the top placed Knox Raiders 91 to 67. The Hawks had a good win at Hume City last week, led by Jacob Gibson, Mike McCahey and Shaun Clarke, the boys won by 32 points. The win keeps the boys in the hunt for a top two finish which is still the aim as we head in to this round. Last night we would have been to Geelong and played the Corio Bay Stingrays and barring any injuries, we should be all ready to go today. Our focus over the past few weeks has been at the defensive end and we will need to be on top of that against the Magic. Barry has had some huge games and cannot be let of the chain as has Morrison who scored an impressive 27 points last week at 50% from the field. In the match-up between these two teams back on the 20th May, the Hawks got the points 102 to 83. The Hawks will be looking to improve again from their effort last week while the Magic will fancy their chances on a big road win. These teams always play an entertaining game and today should be no different. The Players and Coaching staff of the Hawks would like to thank the sponsors and supporters for being on board with the team for 2017. Enjoy the game.
