In 2017, the Hawks recruited a big and strong import Forward from Saint Anselm University in New York. His name was Mike McCahey .

Mike had just finished his College career and was talked in to coming to Australia by Hawks Coach Ken Harrington. From the moment he joined the Hawks he was sensational. At 6’6, strong and physical he was still able to jump through the roof and nail the 3 ball at a high clip. Mike was able to help the Hawks to another Championship.

Mike was a Big V all star 5 member and won the Grand Final MVP although many felt that Matt Snow was just as worthy to win the award.

Mike is now a policeman in New York city and happily married to his long time girlfriend Amy.

Get ready for an exhilarating matchup as the Ringwood Hawks host the Eltham Wildcats in what promises to be an electrifying encounter at Norwood Secondary College.

The Hawks enter Round 3 in 6th position on the ladder with a 2-1 record after two wins in Round 2 - first, a 65-78 win on the road at Diamond Valley, followed by an 84-75 win at The Rings against Hobart.

Marena Whittle led the way with 29 points, 15 rebounds and 3 steals at Diamond Valley, with Ella Ogier having 8 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal off the bench.

Ree again led all scorers with 16 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals against Hobart, whilst Shelby Britten had 15 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists, Toni Farnworth had 15 points and 4 assists, Piper Dunlop had a steal and 4 blocks and Hailey Wynd had 9 points and 4 rebounds off the bench.

The Wildcats enter Round 3 in 11th position on the ladder with a 1-1 record after a Round 2 win against Launceston (84-77). After being down by 4 at quarter time, the Wildcats controlled the game outscoring the Torns 65-54 in the final three quarters.

Anneli Maley led the way with 24 points, 17 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals with Hailey Leidel having 20 points and 5 assists, Louise Forsyth having 18 points and 11 rebounds, Rebecca Pizzey having 10 points and 8 rebounds and Hayley Munro having 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 1 block off the bench.

The Hawks will be looking to close out their 4th game in 8 days with a win, whilst the Wildcats will be looking to get wins against both the NBL1 South Champions and Runners Up in Bendigo in a big weekend before superstar Anneli Maley heads to the US for her second WNBA stint with the Chicago Sky, good luck Anneli.

Thank you for coming out to support the ladies, we look forward to another great night at Norwood with the stands packed out in green. Go Hawks!

We’re back again with NBL1 basketball at our second home, Norwood Secondary College, and tonight we pit ourselves against the undefeated Eltham Wildcats. This will be another huge challenge for our boys, as Eltham have started the season with 2 strong victories. We’re coming off 2 losses (Diamond Valley and Hobart) and after having another game on Wednesday v Kilsyth, the Hawks are desperate to right the ship with a strong performance.

It was disappointing to drop both games last weekend. Giving up over 100 points in both contests was always going to be hard to overcome. It has been a lack of consistency through those games that have cost the boys a real chance of taking both contests. A poor start vs Diamond Valley and a slip up in the 3rd quarter v Hobart was the difference, as both games were only single digit margins when the final buzzer sounded.

Jon Lawton (34 pts, 9asts, 5stls v DV, and 17pts, 8asts v Hobart) has been in scintillating form and is a real focal point of our offence. Kyle Daggett is slowly building his output each game (22 points v Hobart) and Luke Shelley slid into the starting line-up against Hobart and played a great defensive game while also putting up 14 points, including 4/6 from the 3-point line. It was great seeing Adrien Sturt find some rhythm offensively (16 points) and Matthew Roberts continues to provide a strong scoring punch off the bench (10 points v DV and 14 points v Hobart). Our captains, Shaun Clarke and Matty Fennell have shown great leadership for our younger brigade this season, and will be called upon to keep the scoreboard ticking over tonight.

We’ve had many years of great battles against the Wildcats, that well and truly go back to the Big V days. Coach, Craig Stratford has recruited some high-end talent in the off-season to complement the returning players, which includes SEM Phoenix guard Owen Foxwell (19.5 ppg), import Josh Sykes (13.5 ppg, 6.6 rpg) and Sam Short (13.5 ppg, 3.5 apg). Add to that current Sydney Kings 2-time champion Angus Glover (19.5 ppg, 8.5rpg) and Melbourne United player of the past few seasons, Cam Dalton (11 ppg, 8 rpg), and the Wildcats have one of the most formidable line-ups in NBL1 South. There will be some outstanding basketball talent in action tonight, so sit back and enjoy.

It's going to take a total team effort to get the points tonight, and with our strong Norwood home record, and with the support of our amazing Hawks fans, we believe we aren’t far off stringing some consistent performances together. We appreciate all the volunteers who helped get the Norwood games ready this week. We would love to see that amazing NSC stand full of screaming Hawks fans! GO HAWKS!
