Welcome to the last regular season round of NBL1 Basketball for 2022. Tonight we welcome the Knox Raiders to the Rings for a Kayo Game of the Week that has plenty riding on it. A quick look at the ladder will tell you that the Hawks and the Raiders are both a chance to grab that final play off spot depending on how other games pan out over the weekend. In fact there about 5 teams that are wondering if all the head to head matchups go their way they could possibly sneak in. Time will tell. The Raiders have an incredibly talented roster led by import Alex Robinson who has had a great debut season after graduating from Texas Christian University playing under former Hawks great Ryan Miller. NBL players Deng Acouth and Rueben TeRango are game changing talents and veteran NBL player and former Aussie Boomer Adam Gibson is still playing well. Team veteran Dylan Hare is in good form and shooter Jacob Foy has had a great season since crossing from Bendigo. Abe Nyok and Simon Grant will also provide plenty of spark off the bench. The Raiders are Coached by new South East Melbourne Phoenix Assistant Coach Craig Simpson. Last weekend we saw the best and worst of the Hawks. It was a disappointing physical slog at Eltham on Saturday night that did not go our was but Sundays win at Waverley was a much better performance. Shaun Clarke, Emmett Naar, Tim Guers and Jack Roberts were all terrific as was Kyle Daggett and Jack Barry who both battled hard at both ends of the floor.

Being that tonight is our last home game of the year, I would like to thank a few important people who have a big part in keeping the Hawks on court. Assistant Coaches Damien Smith, Mark Sutton and Willie Weimer have been fantastic assistance to the Coach and team all season and nobody in the league is better at what they do than our Team Manager and Club Legend Luke Brodie. To all the volunteers like Amanda Brincat, Kristy Sealey and Family and all the parents and kids from our VJBL who assist on games we say a huge thanks. To Bryon and Lucinda on stats, Michelle on Game Day, all the scorebench people you are all invaluable to our Club and the League. Matt Hickey and Scotty G on the live stream commentary is clearly the best in the League and how impressive is the “Man on the Mike” Brayden Woods . Special thanks to Sarah Dowlan (and her Dad) who kept us all up to date with Social Media. Go Hawks.

Don’t You can watch live or catch the replay of today’s game on Kayo Freebies.

* How about Marena Whittle’s last month. Whittle was selected to the Australian 3X3 team and played in the Asia Cup where she won a silver medal. Then she headed off to the Commonwealth games where again she grabbed another medal for Australia, this time it was a bronze. Whittle will now turn her attention to trying to get her Hawks a National Championship.

*How close is the NBL1 Men’s ladder. There is 5, maybe 6 teams that are all hoping that results go their way and they can somehow sneak in to that last play off spot. The Hawks are one of those teams as are Knox so tonight’s men’s game will be the first big step for both team but the loser will be out of the race. *The NBL1 National Championship weekend is locked in with all the action at the State Basketball Centre on the 9th-11th of September. With Covid wrecking the last few years of Nationals, this one will be big. Let’s hope we have a Hawks team there that we can get behind. *Congrats to Hawks Emmett Naar who has signed to play in the Netherlands after the NBL1 season is over.

Thanks to our great photographers who are the best in NBL1.
