Championship Women TIM MOTTIN Welcome to the “Rings” stadium for Round 17 and the second last round of Big V Basketball. Today we are facing the McKinnon Cougars. The Cougars currently sit in 8th spot on the Big V ladder with 7 wins from their 17 games so far. They are a talented group led by one of the best imports in the league in Ariel Thomas who is averaging the impressive numbers of 17 points per game, 10 rebounds and nearly 7 assists. There is plenty of support for Thomas with Melanie Ioannidis (15ppg), Morgan Pullins (15 and 10) and Matilda Muir. Last week was disappointing for the Cougars though with a tough 29 point loss to the flying Bulleen Boomers. The Hawks are still fighting for a spot in the play-offs and last Sunday had an important road win over Diamond Valley. The stadium was freezing and so was the shooting early in the game, but the girls finally got it going and delivered a 20 point win. Tori Jarosz was spectacular with 25 points and 21 rebounds as was Sydney Coffey who nailed 21. Dani Bone and Emma Beddome continued their good form with 13 and 8 respectively. The win currently puts the Hawks in 5th spot. It is still mathematically possible for the Cougars to make the play offs so we can expect a full and focused effort from them today. The Hawks will need to be at their best and keep a close eye on Thomas who is capable of winning a game when she is given too much space. Then Champ Women would like to thank everyone for their support all season long. To the volunteers, sponsors, Committee we say thanks. There are great people who help put the games on and stream them live across the world or to your lounge room just down the road. Thanks to Bryon and Lucinda, Blake and Jen and all the great Hawks kids who come to games and cheer us on. Let’s hope the girls finish off strong and we can see you all for a few more games this season.

A VIEW FROM THE SIDELINE………. Today is the last regular season home game for the 2017 Big V season. Hopefully though, it wont be the last home game of the year with 3 of our 4 teams looking good to make the Play-offs. The Play offs actually start today for the Youth Women Hawks, they are playing Nunawading at Nunawading and the game starts at Noon. Don’t forget you can check the live stats on www.bigv.com.au. For the Champ Women they are looking to finish as high as 5th if they win today and next week. The Champ Men have two tough games but can still finish any where from 1st till 4th. There is aim is top 2 and a bye in the first round. AS this is the last regular season game, let me thank a few people. Firstly to the lady behind the bar, Jen Draper has been a great assistance all year and helped out where ever she was needed. We hope to see you back again next year and to Bryon and Lucinda and all the junior kids and Parents that helped out on game night, you were awesome. Anyway, still plenty off ball to be played. Enjoy!!!

Championship Men KEN HARRINGTON Welcome to the “Rings” stadium for Round 17 of Big V Basketball, this is the penultimate round for season 2017. Today we welcome the Diamond Valley Eagles who currently sit in 8th spot with 7 wins from 20 games. The Hawks and the Eagles have a long history going back close to 30 years and have always enjoyed great battles. This year’s Eagles team are unfortunately out of finals calculations but remain one of the most dangerous teams in the League. Brandon Conley (17ppg and 9rpg) and Ray Sanders (20ppg) have been terrific signings for the Eagles and have both performed well and are capable of big nights. Matt Reynolds has had a great season lifting his numbers to 15ppg as well as being known as a hardnosed defender and good playmaker. Greg Page, Sam Reynolds and Jason Dirkx give the Eagles great depth and youngster Bailey Griffiths is someone to keep an eye on. The Eagles have been well coached by Ross Moll who is in his first season at DV after crossing from Whittlesea. Speaking of Whittlesea, the Hawks had a solid yet unspectacular win over the Pacers last week. It was good to get Nathan Truman back on court and he was terrific nailing seven threes in his match and season high 25 point haul. Trevor Latham continued his good recent form as did Matt Snowball, Mike McCahey and Jacob Gibson. With 2 games left in the season, the Hawks are still in the hunt for a top two finish. There are 3 teams with 4 losses and one team with 5 losses and the Hawks must look to win today and next week at Waverley to secure a top 2 finish and a bye in the first week of the Play-offs. Both games will be very difficult but the Hawks will have total focus on today’s game. As this is our last regular season home game, I would like to publicly thank some very special people. Firstly to Bryon and Lucinda on the Stats, who have done this impeccably for many years and continue to give their time and effort. To Blake and Jen who run our game day, thanks for giving the Coaches and players and supporters the best game day experience in the League. The Tim and the committee for your support and to all the junior kids and Parents who have assisted on Game night and also cheer our teams on regardless of the outcome. Also to the Hynson family and the work they do on Club photography is just mind blowing. You are all the lifeblood of the Hawks and we thank you. Finally to our amazing sponsors!!! These are all local companies like Noel Jones, Fodmapped, Original Joes, Ringwood Nissan, Genesis, Bendigo Bank and Optus Stud Park. They have committed themselves to help us so please return the favour and support them and letting them know the Hawks appreciate them. From all the guys on court we say thanks. Enjoy the game.
