On July 28th., 2018, the Hawks Championship Men and Women will be playing in a huge night of basketball against the talented Eltham Wildcats. As a way of thanking all the magnificent Basketball Coaches we have in our area (Rep and Domestic), we will be having “Junior Coaches Night. Every Coach who attends will get free entry along with their family and receive a thank you gift on the night. from the Ringwood Hawks. Please spread the word and have your Coach registered to attend by emailing kenhawk25@hotmail.com.

A VIEW FROM THE SIDELINE with Elly What a wonderful night of Basketball we have tonight. It is the Black Dog Game and we are raising awareness of Depression which seems to be something that effects people of all ages and of all backgrounds. Both Hawks teams are wearing a special uniform to honour the occasion and they are wild looking uniforms. On the court there is two great games for us. The Youth Boys will unfortunately miss out of the Finals by a game or two but have clearly played in the stronger side of the draw. They will be keen to close the season out with a win and also close out the Youth Careers of Ryan Miller and Matt Hickey. The Champ men had a rough night at Keilor last week and will need to hit back with a win if they want to still finish on top of the Bog V ladder. The Vikings will provide a very stern test for both Hawks teams tonight. On a different note, the Champ Men and Women’s Home Double Header against Eltham on the 28th July with be our Junior Domestic Night. Please encourage any domestic or Rep Coach to attend the game as the Hawks are wanting to thank them for all the great work they do for the Community. Each Coach in attendance will receive a special gift on the night. Coaches need to register their attendance by emailing Ken at Coach@ringwoodbasketball.com.

Welcome back to The Rings for the final round of the 2018 Victorian Youth Championship Men season. Tonight, we welcome the Blackburn Vikings. It is a night of farewells, thanks and shedding light on mental health by partnering with the Black Dog Institute. One in five (20%) Australians suffer from a mental illness (aged 18-65). Almost half (47%) of all Australians will experience a mental illness in their lifetime. Men are at greatest risk of suicide but least likely to seek help. It is for these reasons, and more, we won’t stay silent about the importance of mental health. Speaking up and seeking help is not a sign of weakness. Tonight, we recognise the importance of taking care of yourself and each other. Speak up. Someone close to you will be there to listen. Visit blackdoginstitute.org.au for more information. Your Hawks (9-12) will not feature in post-season action no matter the result tonight. Make no mistake, the boys are here to play! We will send off two Youth Men greats, Ryan Miller and Matthew Hickey, with a bang. Our Co-Captains age out in 2018 and will look to further their basketball experience at the next level. Both Ryan and Matthew have been invaluable servants of the Club, contributing on and off the floor in a plethora of ways. They were instrumental in our 2016 Grand Final appearance and have assisted with developing the very young roster this year to ensure success in the future. They will be sorely missed around the Hawks Nest. The Club thanks them for their influence and we wish them all the best in their future endeavours. Last weekend the boys had a chance to keep finals hopes alive as we travelled to Eltham to take on the top-ofthe-table Wildcats. A see-saw of the lead meant both teams were at the cusp of victory for 40-minutes. We were unfortunately pipped at the post, succumbing to a couple of banked-threes, enabling Eltham to edge ahead at the siren by 3 (70-67). Matthew Roberts (22pts, 3rebs, 3asts) continued his stellar form in the loss. He was ably supported by Yuot Gai (13pts, 7rebs), Sebastien Lees (8pts, 5rebs, 3asts) and Daniel Port (4pts, 12rebs, 3asts). Blackburn join us with finals hopes hanging by a thread. The result of their game last weekend against Nunawading has not yet been published. If it was a W, they win both games in their double header this weekend, and teams above them lose, the Vikings are a chance. Their biggest contributors of late have been Jake Heath and Bul Niop. Shutting them both down is key tonight. We are without Roberts, Linkin and Love, with all three currently on tour in the USA pursuing collegiate opportunities. Chances present themselves for other members of the roster to stand up against the Vikings. It is going to be a ripper game, so enjoy! Good luck to both teams. The VYCM would like to thank the referees, score bench officials, committee, and supporters for their contributions in 2018. We look forward to returning for a bigger and brighter 2019!

Tonight the Hawks Championship men and Youth League Men are raising awareness for the Black Dog Institute and the effect Depression has on our Community. Depression seems to be something that most people deal with from time to time but for those people who find that Depression is more than just a passing feeling, there is wonderful assistance available. To further promote the amazing work that the Black Dog Institute does, the Hawks are tonight wearing a special uniform that shows our soaring Hawk in all his glory. This is a great reminder to people that are not feeling on top of the World that you will again be flying high. You will also notice the Black Dog logo on the players shorts. Thank You to Maker Sports for your assistance in the uniforms and your support of this night. Remember you are not alone and there are always people who will listen to your problems and able to help. No problem is too big or small. Feel free to contact the following people if your or someone you know needs some assistance.  talk to someone you trust  visit a hospital emergency department  contact your GP, a counsellor, psychologist or psychiatrist .

Welcome to Round 16 of Big V Championship Men’s Basketball.. Tonight we welcome the much improved Blackburn Vikings. The Viking have been impressive in their first season of Championship hoops, especially over the past few weeks where they have beaten Waverley, Corio Bay and last week McKinnon. They are an even team but are well led by Brendan Trewella who does a bit of everything for the Vikings. Michael D’Agostino provides great support with his inside/outside game and shooter James Malvaso has been a great pick up from Eltham. George, Boyle, Benson, Creighton and Moore give Coach Paul Lankford plenty of options. The Vikings have won 5 of their 19 games and sit in 11 positions on the Big V ladder. Last week for the Hawks was disappointing to say the least. A bad loss in controversial circumstances at Keilor was a reminder that if the team is not 100% ready to play hard, they will pay the price. We paid the price. With just 4 games left in the season and the Hawks now just a single game clear on top every single game is now a must win. With all that in mind, tonight’s game is very important. The Vikings are playing like a team that is capable of beating anyone and their confidence is high. They will be up for the battle. Hopefully a few niggly injuries and illness has left the team and we are mentally ready to play some good Basketball. Shaun Clarke, Trevor Latham, Scottie Stone and Jacob Gibson were the Hawks best last week but would agree they have more to offer. Matt Snow has been great all year, as has Matt Fennell. Tonight we are also celebrating the 350 games that Nate Truman has played in the Big V. Truman has always played with a determination that rubs off on his teammates and shows a total passion for the game. He has a great Basketball mind and has been a great addition to the Hawks since joining us in 2015. Congrats Truey on a very rare and worthy achievement. Also, this game is also about raising awareness of depression. Please remember there is great organizations who can help you or your friends if the “Black Dog” of Depression arrives. Thank you for your support and please enjoy the game.
