Welcome to the “Rings” stadium for the first Home Game of season 2018 for the Ringwood Hawks Championship Men’s team. Tonight we welcome the much improved Werribee Devils. Our season kicked off last week at Waverley with the Hawks grabbed an important early road win over the Falcons. The game was “not pretty” though and there is clearly room for improvement and the guys will need to play much better tonight. Jacob Gibson, Nathan Truman and Shaun Clarke were the best for the Hawks. The Devils are a new look unit led by two new imports Konor Kulas and Bryan Nagy who both impressed in the teams win last week over Blackburn. The Devils also recruited Dom Bruno from Whittlesea which is a nice pick up. Veteran Paul Elderkin provides this team leadership and experience while young gun TJ Remy played well last week. Veteran shooter Blake Allison provides his usual scoring off the bench and former Hawks Youth Player Mark Berezdecky had joined the Devils after crossing from Hume City. Kulas was the stand out last week on debut nailing 33 points and grabbing 13 rebounds, including getting to the foul line 19 times. Warren Estcourt has taken the reigns from Mike Czepil, and returns to Coaching after a stint at Sherbrooke a few years ago. The Hawks will need to be at their best tonight. New Import Scottie Stone has shown plenty during pre-season games and will be a nice addition to the Hawks this season as will Mike Solty who returns from a season recovery from an ACL injury. These two have replaced Tim Martin and Mike McCahey but the rest of the team remains the same. Tonight is also a special night as the 2017 Ringwood Hawks will be presented their Championship Rings. Whilst 2018 is now the focus, the team will spend a few minutes reflecting on the history making season that was the Clubs first ever Back to Back Championship. The Players and Coaching staff of the Hawks would like to thank the sponsors and supporters for being on board with the team for 2018. Enjoy the game.
A VIEW FROM THE SIDELINE………. What a fantastic start to the season it was last week for the Ringwood Hawks. Our 4 teams participated in 6 games and in every game the Hawks found a way to win. The Champ Women and Youth Men won 2 Games whilst the Champ Men and Youth Women grabbed one win each. Tonight will be a big test for the Championship men Hawks as they face a much improved Werribee Devils team. The team will also be celebrating their Championship win from last year with the presentation of the Championship Rings which is always an exciting night. If you look up in the rafters of the Rings you will see the Championship Banner hanging proudly with the names of the guys who got the job done last year. Ringwood & District Historical Society turns 60 in 2018! Making it one of the oldest historical societies in the state. Our major event is an Open Day on Saturday 27th October from 1-5pm at North Ringwood Uniting Church, 14 Dickson Crescent, North Ringwood.
