CHAMPIONSHIP RING PRESENTATION NIGHT Welcome to NBL1 Basketball
Round 1)
Our very own Luke Brodie is the man to see. He will look after you. GUARANTEED
So what’s all the fuss about…..Ok, so here we go. It’s called NBL1 and it there is 18 teams in this League. Plenty of teams from all over Victoria plus the CEO (Canberra) and the Tasmania teams. This will be the strongest and best Basketball competition in Australia in Winter. The NBL is obviously still the top league but is played over the summer months. Each team will be playing 20 home and away games which is every team twice plus 4 more games against rival Clubs. The top 8 will make the play offs. So that’s a basic rundown on what awaits us in 2019. I will be here for all 11 nights of NBL1 Ringwood Hawks action calling both the men and women on the NBL1 livestream. Every game this year will be livestreamed so even when the Hawks head to Albury Wodonga next Saturday night, you wont miss any of the action. I have watched these Hawks play very closely over the past 4 seasons and I am excited to join them on this new journey. Most NBL1 pundits predict the Hawks to finish somewhere near the bottom in Men and Women but I can assure you that our teams are ready to go….and so am I. Lets Gooo (Thanks to Optus Stud Park)
Welcome to the first game of 2019 season for the Ringwood Lady Hawks. Exciting time for the Lady Hawks with the start of the inaugural NBL 1 season against the BA COE (Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence) With a strong season in SEABL last year BA COE looks to continue their development in the NBL 1. We look forward to competing against them tonight and again when we see them back at The Rings on the 23rd of June. The Ringwood Lady Hawks have added a lot of new talent for the 2019 season. Young gun Jacqui Trotto will join the hawks for 2019 and look to a scoring punch and toughness, Perth Lynx CoCaptain Toni Farnworth is a proven scorer and a top defensive guard in the WNBL, Indian National Team Captain Jeena Skaria will be a great addition to the team and we can’t wait to see the scoring ability she brings to the team for 2019. A big piece to this group is Megan Mullings, Megan played College basketball at the University of Alaska Anchorage in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference and has also spending time in Finland and more recently Luxembourg. Megan will be one of the most athletic players in the NBL 1 and cannot wait to see what she can do. Returning for another season with the Hawks will be Cassidy Mihalko, originally hailing from Phoenix Arizona and spending her College Career at California Baptist University breaking multiple statistical records. Cassidy is an amazing returnee for 2019 and we hope she can carry on her success from last season. Amanda Meinking, Kate Spillane, Piper Goldie and Neehara Ravikumar look to continue their success from last year and carry it into 2019. Young guns and new to the Club this season is Lara Edmanson and Ella Ogier. Both are looking to continue their development at Ringwood and look to take on some big roles for this season and will cement their spot as key players in the NBL1 . Welcome back Peter Hynson and Ben Draper as Assistant Coaches for 2019. Welcome to new Assistant Coach Jay Allen and new Team Manager Jen Draper. The girls are looking forward to a challenging season in NBL 1 and tonight’s game against the best young Australian talent in the country will provide great entertainment. We hope you enjoy the game.

Welcome to a new era in Basketball in the Southern States of Australia. Tonight we welcome the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence to the Rings for Round one of NBL1 Basketball. Last years three-peat is a long time ago and the challenge ahead for the Hawks is a massive one, but we are excited and ready to go. We have retained the core of last years team with two major additions in Import Joey Miller (From the Knicks G League) and Adrien Sturt who returns home after winning a Ring with us in 2012. Michael Solty has retired due to his ongoing knee problems and Stefan Osborne also retired. Scottie Stone was not re-signed despite an impressive 2018 season. On the bench the Hawks have Assistant Coach Mark Sutton back after his 2 year away in London. The CEO is an exciting, athletic and incredibly talented group of Young Aussies that are clearly going to be the NBL/NBA stars of the not to distant future. Formerly known as the AIS, the CEO has produced the likes of Bogut, Delly, Mills and this group looks to be just as talented. Names like Tamuri Wigness, Alex Ducas and Isiah Lee will be prominent this season but Coach Adam Caporn will have a 12 deep roster and will most likely keep the pressure on and the intensity high. We expect this team will execute very well and play with plenty of discipline. Tonight we are also honouring the 2018 team with presentation of their Championship Rings. Whilst our teams focus is now on the CEO, it will be good to spend a few moments in remembering what a momentus season it was. The new NBL1 is going to provide great quality Basketball every week and we look forward to you joining us for every one of our 11 home games and hopefully a few on the road. Thanks you to our sponsors and volunteers who have continued to keep the Hawks on court and ready for 2019.

For a record setting third straight season, the Hawks Championship Men’s team went all the way to win the Championship in another memorable season in 2018. Lets have a quick look back to the exciting Finals series. The Hawks were solid during the regular season with some incredible home court crowds filling the Rings each week. The team finished on top and secured home court for the Finals losing just 5 games and winning an impressive 17. Of those 5 losses he team lost both games against Eltham which would be telling come finals time. In the first round of the Big V Finals, the Hawks drew a very dangerous McKinnon Cougars team that boasts some serious import and NBL talent. The first game was at GESAC and the Hawks battled a slow start but recovered to win in a high scoring 100 to 95. The win set the team up for a home game chance to close out the series. That’s exactly what the team did with a comfortable 13 point win. It was a total team effort. The Grand Final series was to see the Hawks battle the only team they had not beaten during the season, the Eltham Wildcats. Game one at Eltham saw tickets sell out in 15 minutes from going on sale. The Hawks walked in to Eltham and put the loud and relentless Eltham supporters out of their heads and went to work. Fennell, Snowball, Clarke and Gibson pushed the Hawks to an early lead and then just built on it. Incredible, the Hawks hammered to Wildcats by 28 points to take a 1 to 0 lead with now 2 games at home if needed. How popular were tickets to game 2 at the Rings? They sold out in 5 minutes. That is 570 tickets were snapped up in 5 minutes on try-booking which was remarkable. The live stream of the game attracted 6000 viewers which meant that this series had a huge amount of interest. Game 2 became memorable for the officiating. There were 33 fouls called on the Hawks compared to 20 on the Wildcats in a game that had even the commentators scratching their heads. With 4 starters fouled out, the Hawks lost the game by 19 points and had to re-group for a game 3 the following day. Game three was another test of patience for the players again who could not understand what was happening with the officiating. Luckily, the Hawks were able to keep their starters out of foul trouble and inspired by another 570 strong crowd jumped out early that’s to a red hot Scottie Stone and Matt Fennell. Matt Snow produced the signature play of the season with an incredible steal late in the third quarter that led to a three point play and bought the crowd to their feet and another Championship to the Hawks. The final score was 106 to 94. Matt Fennell was a worthy Finals MVP. Tonight we celebrate an incredible achievement and present the Championship Rings to the members of the 2018 Ringwood Hawks. A very rare 3-Peat!!!!
