Tonight we welcome the Geelong Supercats who make the trip to the Rings this week to face the Hawks on Saturday night. The women are up first in what should be an epic clash, as both teams have sown up playoff spots. Ringwood will have their hands full trying to contain the Supercats, who have lost just one game heading into the round. Geelong has a number of weapons including Sara Blicavs (16.5ppg & 8.5rpg) and Zitina Aokuso (15.6ppg &8.1rpg), however, the Hawks have proven a number of times that they are more than capable of causing an upset. The Ringwood Hawks men have had a tough time of it this season, but proved last weekend against a top-notch Nunawading team that they can take it up to the best. The Supercats are 11-6 so far this season, with DeMarcus Gatlin (20.7ppg & 7.7rpg) and Lewis Thomas (15.5ppg & 9.7rpg) doing the bulk of the work. This should be an intriguing battle. This is a massive night off the court as well, as it is the annual Clubfoot night. There are a number of great prizes that are being raffled off, so get involved and donate!

Welcome to “The Rings” for round 13 and Brady’s “Club Foot round” with what looks to be a tough match up between the Ringwood Lady Hawks and the Geelong Supercats. With both teams in the top 5 on the ladder it should be an interesting game and could go either way. The Lady Hawks are looking to secure a few wins and cement their spot in the playoffs, whilst the Supercats are looking to maintain their position at the top of the table. The Lady Hawks have had their ups and downs but overall have had a strong first season in the new NBL1 league filled with tough and extremely skilled opponents. There has been a tremendous amount of improvement individually and as a team. The team is now trying to make a strong push deep in the playoffs whilst the Supercats are sitting nicely on top of the ladder. The Ladies will be looking for major scoring contributions from players like Antonia Farnworth and Cassidy Mihalko who both are averaging above 15 points per game. The Lady Hawks will also need energy and effort on the defensive side of the ball which will be the focal point of the Lady Hawks getting stops and causing turnovers which is what they’ll need to do to beat a very talented Supercats team. Megan Mullings is coming off a very solid past couple of games and is looking to keep her good form coming into this matchup. On the other side of the floor the Supercats have had a tremendous season, sitting in the top three and are looking to continue their amazing form for the last stretch of games heading into the playoffs. It won’t be easy but the Supercats feel they have the talent and will to make it not only into the playoffs but make a deep run at the championship. Top scorers Ezi Magbegor, Sara Blicavs and Zitina Aokus are all averaging above 15 points per game and are hoping to have a strong game and help their team get a win, Magbegor’s defence has been a bright spot for the Supercats all season as she averages almost 2 steals and 2 blocks a game. The Supercats will also need depth and will need strong contributions from their bench if they want to come out with a win. This is a crucial game for both teams as they both have similar goals of securing a playoff spot and making a strong push towards winning a championship. And don’t forget to show your support towards Bardy and his fight against Club Foot. Enjoy the game!

To honour all the Aussie Clubfoot kids in attendance tonight, the Ringwood Hawks Men and Women’s team are wearing special Clubfoot socks provided by Teamfeet. Aussie Clubfoot Kids was founded to provide support to families who had children born with Clubfeet, who at that stage simply had no assistance. Fortunately, thanks to the work of a few determined people, Clubfoot families are now not left behind. All the funds raised tonight will go towards a charity called “Miraclefeet.” Brady Cochrane, saw on his TV that some kids in Paraguay that had Clubfeet and clearly needed treatment. His determination has always been incredible, so he decided to raise the money to help them. He has already raised $1000s of dollars and tonight we hope to raise a few thousand more. Thanks for being an inspiration Brady (and Leigh), tonight we can help you obtain your goals to help other. It doesn't get much better than that. Lets go Hawks!!!

Our very own Brady Cochrane was born with Clubfoot. Over the past 11 years he has had 56 weeks in plaster and 12 operations to enable him to walk, run and jump like his friend. He knows how lucky he is to have been born in Australia where he had access to world class treatment. Children in some other countries aren’t so lucky. Clubfoot affects 200,000 children each year. Untreated clubfoot is the single largest cause of disability in the world. Over the past 5 years Brady has raised enough money to provide treatment for 39 children. This year Brady turns 11 , so he wants to celebrate by raising enough money to pay for 11 children to receive treatment for their clubfeet. For every $250 a child can receive full treatment and live a full and happy life and finally experience the joy of walking through a charity called Miraclefeet. The Ringwood Hawks Basketball Club, who have supported Brady’s fundraising for the past 5 years encourage you all to donate tonight or on Brady’s Go Fund Me Page. The link is on the Hawks Facebook Page.

Welcome to the “Rings” stadium for round 13 of NBL1 Basketball. Tonight we welcome the Geelong Supercats and we also celebrate the special occasion that is our clubfoot fundraiser game. The Supercats have had another excellent season and sit in third spot on the ladder with an 11 win and 7 loss record. They have a great history of success in the SEABL and have carried that in to the new League. There is plenty of talent on this roster led by the athletic Demarcus Gatlin who has an allround game from slashing to the basket to nailing the three. Anthony Williams has joined the Cats this year and has shown an ability to score but has plenty of support from veteran Nick Owusu and Lewis Varley. Familiar names Ma’alo Hicks and Mike Rebula (Formerly Corio Bay) have provided the Supercats wonderful depth and Lewis Thompson continues to impress everyone around the NBL1. Last week Geelong had a solid win over the Sandringham Sabres on the road. A tough season got a little tougher for the Hawks last weekend with a last minute loss to the Nunawading Spectres. The boys played well but just could not put the finishing touches on the game allowing the Spectres to escape with the victory. Adrien Sturt and Matt Fennell have both been outstanding lately but Shaun Clarke and Matt Snow both stepped up big in a big game. Jacob Gibson is slowly recovering from his injury woes and Joey Miller has been a solid contributor all season. The Hawks will need a similar performance tonight to get past the talented Supercats. The Clubfoot game is one of our favourite games of the season as we help 11 year old legend Brady Cochrane work his butt off to help others. His promotion of tonight’s game has seen him on Channel 10 news, the Leader Newspaper, Gold FM and the Herald Sun. Please buy some raffle tickets tonight for a great cause and give yourself a chance at a bunch of incredible prizes including signed NBA stuff from Matt Dellavedova who is a great support of this event. We hope you have a great night and enjoy all the action we have planned for you. The Coaches and players of the Hawks would like to thank all the Sponsors, Committee. Volunteers and supporters who keep pushing the Hawks to bigger things.

Welcome to The Rings for this Round 15 clash of the 2019 Big V VYCM season. Today, we welcome the Hawthorn Magic (8-11). Last weekend, your Hawks (14-6) had a very ordinary outing on the road at McKinnon. Despite a great first period with our offense looking the goods, effort, defensive intensity and offensive efficiency weren’t maintained for the remainder of the game. Matthew Roberts (15pts, 5rebs, 9asts), back from NBL1 duties, was excellent. Also performing well were Harry Love (19pts, 11rebs) and Yuot Gai (16pts, 14rebs) with big double -doubles. It just wasn’t enough to the job done, eventually succumbing by 11 points (7586). Hawthorn join us after having their fortunes change last weekend. Heading into a game against Keilor after two recent heart-breaking overtime losses, the Magic got a great home win by 4 points (94-90). With five players in double-figures, it was a great all-round team performance. The standouts included Joe Furphy (16pts, 13rebs, 3stls), Naoum Lazis (22pts, 9rebs) and Nicholas Patel (17pts, 14rebs, 4asts). This is a big game as the regular season draws to a close. Hawthorn have been eliminated from finals contention, but don’t expect this to stop them from causing an upset on the road. Particularly as your Hawks must get the W to keep hold onto their second placing in the Watson conference. This would mean a home final and more favourable first final crossover. Enjoy the game and good luck to both teams. The VYCM would like to thank the referees, score bench officials, committee, and supporters for their contributions.
