Welcome to THE RINGS for the first game of VYC double header. Tonight we play the Waverley Falcons and this is a very important game for us to keep the momentum going and being the first game of a double header. Last weekend we played Bendigo at The Rings it was a tough physical game, we came our strong and held a 12 point lead at the end of the first quarter 28-16 the second quarter we consolidated after the first quarter holding a 12 point lead at half time. The first few minutes of the 3rd quarter our offence wasn’t quite in sink and Bendigo cut the lead to just 2 points, after a timeout and a refocus we got the lead back to 11 points by 3 quarter time, The 4th quarter we locked down at the defensive end and came away 19 point winners. Best performances for your Hawks we Annabel Deerbon with 20 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals, Caite Woodman has a career high 24 points @ 50% from the field and very strong aground game by Kiahna Liddy with 15 points, 6 rebounds as well as holding Bendigo,s leading scorer to 9 points @ 27% from the field. The second game for the weekend was against local rival Kilsyth with both teams having strong starts to the season and both coming of wins from the night before. The game was a tight one at half time with Kilsyth holding a 1 point lead, both teams were struggling to gain any real momentum in the first half, Thankfully your Hawks dominated the “Championship” quarter, locking down at the defensive end and we had a dominant 3rd quarter out scoring the Cobras by 21 points, the forth quarter we were fortunate enough to get all players some great experience, with some good development minutes for the whole roster, a very pleasing part was 5 players scored in double digits with Caite Woodman backing up from Saturday night with 19 points and 4 rebounds, Dani Calvisi with 13 points and 5 rebounds, Maddy Phillips had 12 points and in another strong aground Game Annabel Deerbon had a double, double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Today’s game against the is sure to be a tight contest, Waverley will be looking for their first win and have been very competitive so far this season with out cracking it for a win. Waverley have some real talent with Nyakoang Lok being super athletic getting 21 points and 18 rebounds V Ballarat last weekend, Alyssa Weston is a reliable shooter, and a strong post presence in Mia Parsons. So it will be imperative we play with Defensive intensity to shut down Waverley’s offensive opportunities for us to come away with the win We hope you enjoy the game! The Ringwood Hawks Coaches and Players wish to thank their sponsors, volunteers and supporters . GO HAWKS!

Welcome to The Rings for this Round 5 clash of the 2019 Big V VYCM season. Tonight, we welcome the Southern Sabres (0-6). Last weekend, your Hawks (3-3) split their double-header. First up, we hosted the McKinnon Cougars in a battle to remain in the top four. In a shooting clinic, the boys amassed a double-digit first half lead of 18pts. After being challenged in the third period, the group regained momentum in the fourth, running out winners by 28pts (100-72). Sebastien Lees (30pts, 6rebs, 5asts) led the way, with Kaide Fittolani (4pts, 8rebs, 11asts), Yuot Gai (15pts, 4rebs, 4asts, 2blks), Harry Love (15pts, 4rebs) and Ben Linkin (11pts, 5rebs) contributing well. It was a selfless performance as the team amassed a whopping 29 dimes in the game. Special congratulations went to U18s, Alan Ure and Izaac Nicholls who each debuted in the Youth squad. On Sunday, a disappointing first half on the road at Kilsyth saw the Hawks down by 15 at the main break. After some abrupt adjustments, we were able to make a challenge in the second half. Unfortunately, it was not enough to take the W, succumbing by 6pts (88-94). Angok Angok (17pts, 10rebs, 2blks) was the standout, ably supported by Matthew Roberts (18pts, 3rebs, 2asts, 2stls) and Yuot Gai (15pts, 9rebs). For the Sabres, it was just the one game last weekend, as they were visited by the Nunawading Spectres. In a high scoring affair, the Sabres fell by 7pts (95-102). The best for Southern were Nicholas Gabsch (40pts, 4rebs) Samuel Landale (12pts, 7rebs) and Samuel Taulapiu (11pts, 9rebs). This is the first of two meetings between Ringwood and Southern this season, now in the same pool (Watson). Your Hawks got a W during their preseason matchup, but much has changed about both teams since. With another double header this weekend, we will be looking to put this one away early and begin preparing for Diamond Valley tomorrow. The Sabres will be looking to lift themselves from the bottom of the ladder and obtain a much need win on the road. Good luck to both teams. The VYCM would like to thank the referees, score bench officials, committee, and supporters for their contributions.

The Ringwood Hawks kicked off their NBL1 season with a bang a few weeks ago, with both the men and women knocking over the Centre of Excellence. The Lady Hawks kept it rolling into Round 2, defeating the Lauren Jacksoncoached Bandits. The men, on the other hand, had a slightly tougher night, losing a high-scoring contest. This week Ringwood hosts rivals Kilsyth. The Cobras enjoyed a week off last week and will no doubt be ready to go when they get to The Rings. Their women’s side is led by WNBL player and Saint Mary’s product Lauren Nicholson. If the Hawks are to win this game they must shut her down as she has the talent to put points on in bunches. The Kilsyth men’s team is a host to a number of current and former NBL players including Peter Hooley, Owen Odigie, Tohi Smith-Milner, Chris Patton and Felix Von Hofe. They showed in Round One they have the ability to score the ball and defend well which should make for an interesting contest.

Welcome to ‘The Rings’ for our 2nd home game of the NBL1 season for the Ringwood Lady Hawks who today face the mighty Kilsyth Cobras!

A rivalry that needs no introduction, 2 of arguably the biggest basketball organisations in Victoria for domestic and representative levels, now face off in the inaugural NBL1 season at the top level! We have been waiting for this!

Our Lady Hawks could not have asked for a better start to the season with a 2-0 record highlighted by last weekend’s trip to the border to play Albury-Wodonga. In hostile territory and with crowd against us, our ladies stepped up and played some serious team basketball coming away with a 10 point win. Leading the way with a solid all-round performance was WNBL veteran Toni Farnworth (21 points, 8 rebounds). Not to mention ‘Team USA’ feat Cassidy Mihalko (16 points, 7 rebounds) & Megan Mullings (12 points, 9 rebounds) who both showed toughness down the stretch. With the game in the balance all the way until the final buzzer, the girls really dug deep to secure a massive win which will only give them confidence as the season progresses. But today presents another challenge for our ladies as Kilsyth possess one of the best guard/centre combos in the league this season. Former SEABL MVP & current WNBL superstar Lauren Nicholson has taken her talents to the Cobras and she will present a massive headache if she is not contained offensively. With her ability to get buckets however she wants, our defensive will have to be on lockdown! Not only that, former BIG V MVP & current WNBL ring protector Sarah Boothe will bring presence and scoring punch to an already potent line up. Bringing in experienced players such as Tessari, Frysters & Wilscher, our Lady Hawks will have to bring their A-Game to come away with the W today!

So, let’s get behind your Lady Hawks for the first match up against our arch rivals!

Enjoy the game!

Welcome to Round 3 action of the 2019 NBL1 season. Tonight we welcome our closest neighbour and long time junior rivals, the Kilsyth Cobras. Last week the Hawks let a big opportunity slip in Albury, eventually losing by 5 points in a high scoring game. Joey Miller and Jacob Gibson scored 21 points each but nobody was able to stop Bandits import Ken-Jah Bosley who lit us up for 37 points. The loss puts us at one win and one loss heading in to this weekend. The Cobras are undefeated so far with 2 wins but did have a bye last week. They are considered by many around the Country to be the team to beat for the Championship due to the roster that Coach Justin Schueller has put together. Current Melbourne United players Peter Hooley and Tohi Smith-Milner lead this team but former NBL stars Owen Odigie, Chris Patton and also import Isaac Turner are just as talented. Despite from retiring from the NBL, Felix Von Hofe has already shown he is capable of being a big time contributer with two strong performances so far. News doing the rounds is that Isaac Turner has a injury issue and may not be available for todays game which for most teams would be a concern but the Cobras have depth and plenty of talent ready to step up. The Hawks will need to be at their very best to grab what would be a great win. Clarke, Latham and Fennell have all been good this season and Adrien Sturt has provided the spark that has kept the Hawks firing. All four Hawks will need to be at their best. Today’s game will be a fantastic spectacle with unbelievable talent on the court. We hope you enjoy the game. Remember next week the NBL1 is on a break for Easter. We will be back the following Sunday with another massive game against Eltham. Thanks you to our sponsors and volunteers who have continued to keep the Hawks on court and ready for 2019.

The 2015 Hawks Championship Women’s team created Club history in 2015, winning their first ever Women's Championship, and were crowned State Champions. After coming heartbreakingly close in recent seasons, the core of the team remained from 2014 with the main inclusion being import Lauren Oosdyke who was recruited from Northern Colorado University. Captain Lisa Ewin, along with Jackie Vanderzaag, Sarah Yousef, Emma Beddome, Kate Spillane, Shelley Mottin, Tara Blair, Inez Lie, Regan Gardiner and Katie Shanahan all played significant roles in the teams success. Third year star import Amber Hegge was again the teams rock and was the recipient of many awards from the Big V to team awards. The girls had a dominant regular season winning 17 games and losing 3 but finished second behind the highly fancies Hume City Broncos. In the Qualifying Final the girls dominated Southern Peninsula, winning by 30 points which meant a Preliminary Final against Hume City. The Broncos were favourites at home but the Hawks played too well and won the game by 10 and headed off to the Championship series. Hume City won the following week against Bulleen and for the third season in a row it was the Hawks facing the Broncos. Game one was at Hume City and the Hawks struggled right from the tip off. Despite managing to claw their way back in to the game in the last quarter, Hume took game one by 10 points and now the Hawks needed to win 2 games at home to secure the Championship. The girls were unbelievable the following weekend. Amber Hegge and jackie Vanderzaag both stepped up under the pressure of the games and provided the team scoring that was needed. With the stadium packed and standing room only, the girls won game 2 by 7 and then closed out Game 3 by just 2 points thanks to a huge 3 pointer by Sarah Yousef and a great running basket by Hegge. All games were live streamed across the world and were enjoyed by all the former Hawks players who could not get to the games. The team celebrated long and hard, this Championship was three in the making and finally the monkey was off the back. Off the court, Lauren Oosdyke along with men's imports Tate Unruh and Nate Champion did some fantastic work in the Community and all three were incredibly popular wherever they were. The girls spent time in our junior program helping out at trainings which was well received and a great benefit for the kids. Amber Hegge was voted a League All-star for the third straight season and she also shared the Clubs MVP award with Emma Beddome. Jackie Vanderzaag won the team’s defensive player of the year award. Regan Gardiner played her 200th game this season while Kate Spillane and Shelley Mottin played their 100th. Congrats to each of them on great achievements.
