Welcome to the NBL1 Game of the Week
Round 4)
Our very own Luke Brodie is the man to see. He will look after you. GUARANTEED
Ringwood host Eltham this week in what is the NBL1 Game of the Week. The two clubs are rivals and don’t be surprised if tempers flare at some point throughout the night. The Ringwood women have been one of the surprise packets of the season and enter the round as just one of three undefeated teams. The Eltham women, on the other hand, have had an inconsistent start to the season and currently sit 2-2. Keep your eye on Wildcats import shooter Chelsie Schweers (21.7ppg), who has been the star for Eltham so far this season. Both the Ringwood and Eltham men will be searching for their second win of the season when they clash at 8pm. The Hawks have had their chances, but sit 1-2 in the lower half of the ladder. The Wildcats have dropped three games and need to turn things around before it’s too late. Eltham’s Josh Sykes will no doubt keep the crowd entertained with his high-flying antics, while Ringwood’s own Jacob Gibson (22.3ppg) will be keen to keep his great start to the season going.

Every game in the new NBL1 League is a big event but July 13 th promises to be a special night for the Ringwood Hawks. The Hawks will be hosting the Launceston Tornadoes and North West Tasmanian Thunder on that night but the game will also be a chance for all current and former Hawks to get together for a Club Reunion. “We are hoping to get anyone who has ever played or Coached or even just supported the Club to come down on the 13th.” Club President Tim Mottin said. “Our Club has 35 years if history and it would be great to get as many people back to say hello.” The night will also give the Club a chance to celebrate the Clubs first ever Senior Championship with members of the 1999 Hawks team in attendance. This year is the 20th anniversary of that historic team that featured Hawks greats including Damien Smith, Ben Quick, Simon Lilley, Steve Harris, Jason and Mark Eversteyn and imports Ryan Miller and Mark Rich. The Hawks will present the 1999 team retrospective Championship rings and are hoping to have as many of the team on hand to accept them. Invites have been sent to Miller and Rich who are hopeful of making the trip.
Welcome to ‘The Rings’ for our 3rd home game of the NBL1 season for the Ringwood Lady Hawks who today face the dangerous Eltham Wildcats! For many years, we have been competing against the Wildcats in the BIG V State Championship, but now we have both stepped up into the NBL1 to renew our rivalry! Our Lady Hawks could not have asked for a better start to the season with a 3-0 record heading into the Easter Weekend Break. Last rounds comprehensive team victory over our arch rivals Kilsyth Cobras was the Lady Hawks best team effort so far this season. Huge news hit The Rings before tip off stating that Cobra’s #1 recruit and current Opals team member Lauren Nicholson was out for this matchup, the Lady Hawks still knew we had a fight on our hands. Every single member of our outfit showed up to play when their time came to hit the court. Cassdy Milhalko stuffed the stat sheet with 22 points, 10 boards, 3 steals, 2 blocks. Gun recruit Toni Farnworth showed again she is a top performer in this league with 21 points and 5 triples. A massive effort from the supporting cast throughout the game highlighted by Neehara & Ella’s energy on the defensive end were pivotal in the girls securing the W. No doubt that if the girls bring this energy and teamwork again, the Wildcats will be in for a long afternoon! Today brings another challenge for our ladies against a formidable Wildcats program that has recruited one of the most potent 3 point shooting line ups we have seen. American import Chelsie Schweers is rumoured to have hit more perimeter shots than Steph Curry in college, so our Lady Hawks will have to be on lockdown from the tip! Margaret Mulligan will provide the visitors with some strong work in the post which will need to be contained. Led by captain Vanessa Panousis who is no stranger to posting big numbers and having a massive impact, we know that this game presents an opportunity for our Lady Hawks to really make our presence known! So, let’s get behind your Lady Hawks for todays clash! Enjoy the game!

Welcome to the “Rings” stadium for Round 4 of NBL1 season 2019. Tonight we welcome the Eltham Wildcats who have started the season with 1 win from their 4 games. Most people will remember the excitement and drama from last year’s Big V Grand Final where the Hawks were able to sneak past the wildcats in a three game classic series. That is all history now though as our Clubs are in a new league with new look teams and tonight’s game will be a beauty. The Wildcats do have a familiar look about them though with the return of stars Ben Waldren and the athletic Josh Sykes to lead them from the front. The big additions this season are Canadian import Grandy Glaze and NBL veteran Adam Doyle from the Adelaide 36ers. Simon Bradbury, Justin Aver, Sam Whelan and Dave Schaffert have all played well so far this year giving Coach Trevor Lee plenty to work with. Last week the Wildcats had a tough loss to a very strong Geelong Supercats in Geelong by 31 points. The Hawks had the week off for Easter which gave a few players to rest up on some minor injury concerns. There were some positives in the loss to Kilsyth but a loss is a loss and tonight’s game is a chance for both teams to get their season back on track. Matt Fennell and Joey Miller were very good against Kilsyth but the Hawks will need plenty of contributors tonight. Look for Gibson, Sturt, Latham and Clarke to improve their output and the improving Matt Roberts to provide a spark off the bench. The Hawks have also welcomed back Shaun Rawson to the team, a former Championship winner with the Hawks in 2014. The key to tonight’s game for the Hawks will be at defensive end. The Wildcats are capable of playing fast and lighting up the scoreboard in a hurry. Sykes is the most explosive athlete in NBL1 and if the Eltham shooters like Aver, Doyle and Schaffert get going it can spell trouble. These two teams have provided plenty of entertainment over the past few years and you can expect more of the same in this one. The Players and Coaching staff of the Hawks would like to thank the sponsors, volunteers and supporters for being on board with the team for 2019. Enjoy the game.
