Welcome to NBL1 and Big V Basketball
Round 5)
Our very own Luke Brodie is the man to see. He will look after you. GUARANTEED
It was a huge Saturday night at the Rings last week, however we are straight back into more basketball at Ringwood this weekend. The Hawks have their first doubleheader this weekend, hosting the Hobart Huskies on Saturday night before travelling to Diamond Valley on Sunday. The Lady Hawks took their first loss of the season last week against Eltham and will be eager to bounce back. They will have to keep a close eye on Ellie Collins on Saturday, as she averages 19.8 points, 7.4 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game. Meanwhile, Hope Terdich (21ppg & 7.2rpg) is Diamond Valley’s go-to player. The Ringwood men will be looking to ride the momentum of their thrilling double OT win over rivals Eltham when they hit the court on Saturday night. They will need to lock up Hobart’s Jalen Adams (23.2ppg) who has been scoring in bunches, while on Sunday Joel Spear (16.4ppg) will be the player that needs shutting down. The NBL1 ladder is beginning to take shape and this is a huge weekend for the Hawks.

Farnworth Embracing New Chapter In NBL1 Written by Megan Hustwaite for NBL1.com.au Toni Farnworth has begun a new chapter in Melbourne and is loving the nest she’s settled in. After six and a half years in WA, the New Zealand-born guard now calls Victoria home and has embraced her new team, the Ringwood Hawks. The 30-year-old is averaging 19 points, six rebounds and three assists after six games in the maiden season of NBL1. Farnworth and husband Josh crossed the country after he received a work promotion at the end of 2018. But, just how did the experienced pro-basketballer land at the Hawks? “My husband knows one of the assistant coaches, Ben Draper, they’d coached together before so it went from there. I found out I was moving right at the end of last year so it all happened kind of quick, I ended up at Ringwood and it’s been quite good there. That’s the area we were going to live, we’ve got family out that side of town and that’s how it worked out,’’ she explains. “I didn’t know any of the girls but I was really impressed when I got there for the first couple of practices. There’s a good bunch of young girls and then the two imports are great players and really good people as well so it’s been really good and a friendly and welcoming group who’ve made it an easy transition.” Farnworth (nee Edmondson) played in SEABL for Albury and represented Hume City in Big V when she last lived in Victoria but has spent the past few years playing in WA’s state basketball league with Willetton Tigers (2013, 2014) then Joondalup Wolves (2015) before suiting up with Perry Lakes Hawks where she won a championship and was Grand Final MVP in 2017. Last year, she earned league all-star selection. “It’s a pretty good league over there but I think coming over here to NBL1, it’s definitely a bit more of a test and a deeper league to play in,’’ Farnworth says. “Every week you’re coming up against a pretty tough match up or opposition. We went up to Albury and I didn’t actually realise Nat Hurst was playing for them and you know the calibre of player she is. “It’s been good and every team seems to have a good, solid few players and I think particularly in Melbourne all the young kids coming up are strong. They have such a good, strong junior comp here that your 19/20-year-old kids are tough to go against.” The Hawks suffered their first loss of 2019 last round, falling to Eltham Wildcats 74-68. Farnworth says while it was a frustrating defeat, it was a timely reminder that “you have to play well or you can lose any came in this league.” Last year was one to both savour and remember for Farnworth and the New Zealand national team, as the Tall Ferns won a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast. Farnworth describes representing her country as a great honour and thrill. “Since 2007 I’ve been in the national team squad and last year was definitely a highlight with the Comm Games,’’ she says. “I’ve had the opportunity previously to captain my country and that is obviously a pretty huge honour. There’s so many highlights, Micaela Cocks I’ve played with since I was 16, which is half our lives and that’s pretty crazy. “We’ve got a big year coming up with our Olympic qualifier campaign, Asia Cup in September then other qualifiers after that, so it’s exciting times.

Welcome to the “Rings” stadium for round 5 of NBL1 Basketball. Tonight we welcome the Hobart Huskies for their first ever trip to Ringwood. It has been a mixed start to the season for the Huskies who currently sit in 15 th spot on the ladder with 1 win and 4 losses. It has been a challenging schedule to start the season with the Huskies travelling to Melbourne this week for consecutive double header games. Despite just the one win the Huskies have plenty of talent led by one of the league’s most explosive scorers and athletes in Jalen Adams. Adams is averaging 23ppg and hitting the three at an impressive 47% from the 3 point arc. Jacob Richards is also having a great season for the Huskies and is getting great support from Jack Stanwix, Zach White, Sam Youl and Matthew Young. Mark Chivers is the man at the helm and has plenty of coaching experience over many years. Last week the Hawks got themselves out of jail against the old rival the Eltham Wildcats. The game of the week was just that as the double overtime thriller kept the sold out crowd on their feet till about 10.30pm. Jacob Gibson, Joey Miller, Adrien Sturt and Trevor Latham all played great as did Nathan Truman who showed his experience down the stretch. The Hawks will need to lock down on Adams who is capable of tearing a game apart. The Huskies are a team capable of beating anyone and certainly have had no trouble scoring big numbers. Tonight’s game is part of an important Double Header weekend for the Hawks who will tomorrow head to Diamond Valley in another crucial contest while the Huskies last night were in Bendigo to face the Braves. The Players and Coaching staff of the Hawks would like to thank the sponsors and supporters for being on board with the team for 2019. Enjoy the game.

Welcome to THE RINGS for the first game of VYC double header today we play Hume City this is a very important game for us to keep the momentum going and striving to be better each and every week. Last weekend we played the Hawthorn Magic, it was a physical contest and low scoring defensive battle, the girls stuck to the task at hand and came away with s well deserved 17 point win with all players getting good game time. Stand out performers from Kiahna Liddy 11 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists, Annabel Deerbon 10 points, 5 Rebounds and 2 assists and Caite Woodman providing spark off the Bench with 8 points. Today’s game against the is sure to be a tight and physical contest, Hume are playing some impressive basketball and have a deep and talented squad, lead By Tashia Overby 11 ppg and 5.5 rpg, Jess Azzopardi 12 ppg and 1.8 asg and Nik Spencer 7ppg and 7.5 rpg So it will be imperative we play with Defensive intensity to shut down Hume’s offensive opportunities for us to come away with the win We hope you enjoy the game! The Ringwood Hawks Coaches and Players wish to thank their sponsors, volunteers and support.ers .

Welcome to The Rings for this Round 7 clash of the 2019 BigV VYCM season. Tonight, we welcome the Nunawading Spectre (5-3). Last weekend, your Hawks (6-3) travelled to Sherbrooke to face the Suns. Whilst not our best game of the year by far, the boys prevailed by 7 points (71-64). Yuot Gai (19pts, 10rebs) continued his stellar form, ably supported by Lachie Ahale (8pts, 7rebs, 3asts) off the bench. Returning to the side was veteran forward Daniel Port (7 rebs), after being sidelined with a shoulder injury. The Spectres also hit the road last weekend, travelling to Keilor to tackle the Thunder. A dominant second-half performance saw Nunawading run away with a 19-point win (82-63). Daniel Baxter (19pts, 13rebs, 5asts) led the way, whilst Jack Gandolfo (16pts, 5asts) continued his incredible recent form. This clash is an important one. Both your Hawks (3 rd) and the Spectres (4th) are in finals contention within the Watson Conference. It was the Ringwood boys that got the win at Nunawading earlier in the year, so with head-to-head on the line, it is going to be a fight! Enjoy the game and good luck to both teams. The VYCM would like to thank the referees, score bench officials, committee, and supporters for their contributions.
