Once again the Ringwood Hawks will have to battle their way through a double-header this weekend, starting on Saturday night at the Rings. First up, Ringwood host former Big V rivals Waverley. The Lady Hawks have been on fire this season and after two wins last weekend are sitting pretty at 5 -1. The Falcons have a number of stars, including former WNBL player and current AFLW forward Tegan Cunningham (11.6ppg) and captain Kelly Bowen (15.3ppg). Ringwood will also have to do battle with two familiar faces, with former Hawks players Jackie Vanderzaag and Lisa Ewin playing for the Falcons. On Sunday the Lady Hawks face Melbourne, who recently acquired Olympian and former WNBA player Jenna O’Hea. No doubt the 31-year-old will be the focus of Ringwood’s defensive attention, however they can’t forget about the likes of Monique Conti and Louella Tomlinson. The Ringwood men had a tough time of it last weekend, dropping both of their games. They will look to bounce back against Waverley on Saturday night. The Falcons are captained by former NBL player Bennie Lewis (14.6ppg) and will look to him, Chris Arkell (14.1ppg), Deondre McWhorter (19.8ppg) and Dylan Travis (15.6ppg) to do the bulk of the work on offence. On Sunday they do battle with the 3-4 Melbourne Tigers. Last week against the Sabres, Melbourne played three of their starters at least 40 minutes. Don’t be surprised if we see that again as Dane Pineau (16ppg & 16rpg), Michael Luxford (10.8ppg) and Nic Pozoglou (22.5ppg) will be relied on heavily. This is a massive weekend for both Ringwood teams, as the women can establish themselves as a powerhouse of the competition, while the men need to find some form if they want to have an impact late in the season.

Welcome to the “Rings” stadium for Round 6 of NBL1 action. Tonight we welcome the Waverley Falcons on Pink round to raise funds for Breast cancer. The Falcons have an impressive line-up this season with talent all the way down the bench. Leading the way is Imports Dylan Travis and Deondre McWharter. Both players have been consistent threats all season but there is plenty more to the Falcons. Chris Arkell is back this season and playing well as is Brad Kelleher. Matt Hancock has been a great pick up as has veteran Bennie Lewis who moved across from Frankston. Harper, Neville and Leisting have all returned from last year and give this team great depth. The Falcons sit above the Hawks on the NBL1 Ladder with 3 wins from their 6 games. Last week was a tough weekend for the Hawks with losses to Hobart and Diamond Valley. The team has had a rough trot with injuries and player unavailability but that has provided more opportunities for Youth League players Matt Roberts, Kaide Fittolani and Yuot Gai who have all enjoyed some more minutes. We will need better performances from the likes of Jacob Gibson, Joey Miller and Adrien Sturt who have all been good at times but were down last week. Matt Fennell and Shaun Clarke battled hard and will also need to be at their best. The weekend is another challenging one as the boy have a double header. Tomorrow they will travel to MSAC and face the Melbourne Tigers on Mother’s Day. (Happy Mother’s Day to all Mums). But all the team’s focus will be on Waverley tonight. There was plenty for the Hawks to learn from last weekend and the weeks training will have been extremely beneficial. We hope you will see a different version on the Hawks tonight that you saw last week, even if the injuries are still an issue. There will be a different focus. I ask you to dig deep as we raise some money for BCNA (Breast Cancer Network Australia) tonight. Most of us have been effected by this disease so a more worthy cause there isn’t. The Players and Coaching staff of the Hawks would like to thank the sponsors and supporters for being on board with the team for 2019.

Enjoy the game.

Welcome to THE RINGS for the first game of VYC double header today we play Altona this is a very important game for us to keep the momentum going and striving to be better each and every week, Altona currently sit 4th on the Terrill ladder and will want to make amends for a tight home loss to Kilsyth last weekend. Last weekend we played the Hume City, it was a physical contest, the girls stuck to the task at hand and came away with well deserved 13 point win, it’s was our defence that was able to hold Hume to 24% from the field and create 21 turnovers that went along way to helping us get the win, combined with making 70% of our free throw attempts to Hume’s 50% Stand out performers from Annabel Deerbon 19 points, 13 Rebounds 3 blocks and 3 assists, Dani Calvisi 11 points, 9 rebounds Maddy Phillips with a near double, double 8 points, 9 rebounds and Caite Woodman providing spark off the Bench with 9 points. Today’s game against the is sure to be a tight and physical contest, Altona are playing some impressive basketball and have a talented squad, lead By Reyhan Aziz with 13.25 ppg and 10.75 rpg, backed up by Dana Lindeman and Jessica Rarity averaging 10 points 10 rebounds per contest as well as shooters Monique MarceticVaotangi and Tyla Paraha averaging double digits each week. So it will be imperative we play with Defensive intensity to shut down Altona offensive opportunities for us to come away with the win We hope you enjoy the game!

Welcome to The Rings for this Round 8 clash of the 2019 Big V VYCM season. Today, we welcome the Blackburn Vikings (1-7). Last weekend, your Hawks (7-3) hosted the Nunawading Spectres. It is always a tough outing against this long-term rival and the 2018 Champs. We managed to get a W in our matchup earlier in the season with a full roster, but this time we were without Matthew Roberts, Kaide Fittolani and Yuot Gai as they fulfilled NBL1 duties. Lachie Ahale (15pts, 12rebs) and Harry Love (22pts, 6rebs, 2asts) entered the starting lineup and did not disappoint. Additionally, Tom Lock (9pts, 6rebs) and Ben Linkin (10pts, 4rebs, 3asts) were pivotal with their offensive contributions. Above all else, it was the defensive intensity and focus that made the difference, particularly on the boards (52-30). In what was a fantastic 10-point upset, the entire group played a role to get the W (76-66). Blackburn were not so fortunate last weekend. They were handed a massive home defeat, to the tune of 46-points, as they hosted the Kilsyth Cobras (80-126). In what was an offensive onslaught, the Vikings could do little to overcome a Cobras side that shot about 70% from the field. Sam Porteous (17pts, 3asts), former Hawk Michael Zuccolo (15pts, 3rebs) and Bailey Wootton (13pts, 8rebs, 4asts) were standouts in the loss. Today’s matchup will be the only time the Hawks and Vikings see each other this season, as they are placed in separate pools. Crossover games such as this are pivotal for separating yourself from the pack. Whilst we sit solidly in 3rd (Watson), your Hawks will be desperate for this one to make the buffer a little more comfortable. For Blackburn, they will fight for a W to lift themselves from the bottom of the Terrill ladder. Enjoy the game and good luck to both teams. The VYCM would like to thank the referees, score bench officials, committee, and supporters for their contributions.
