Proud Sponsors of

This week the Southern Sabres make their way to Ringwood to face the Hawks. Despite splitting last weekend 1-1, the Lady Hawks should be confident ahead of nSaturday night’s clash as the Sabres have struggled and have only chalked up two wins this season. Toni Farnworth (22.7ppg & 6.7rpg) has continued her brilliant start to the season for the Hawks, while import Cassidy Mihalko (16ppg & 8.2rpg) has also been doing her thing. Meanwhile, the Sabres are led by WNBL player Rachel Jarry (20.5ppg & 9.1rpg) and the Hawks will need to slow her down if they are to win this one. It’s been a tough few weeks for the Ringwood men, however they will be eager to get back on the winner’s list on Saturday night against the Sabres. Matt Snow will make his return to the team and they will also be celebrating Shaun Clarke reaching 300 games. The Hawks will have to keep their eye out for Kingsley Box, who exploded last week for 33 points including seven threes

WOMEN

HAWKS SET TO CELEBRATE CLARKE 300 Tonight the Ringwood Hawks will celebrate a rare achievement with the 300 th Game of Club Legend and team Co -Captain Shaun Clarke. Clarke grew up developing through the Hawks junior program and eventually became a star at Big V and NBL1 level. He did head off the College Basketball in America spending 2 years at Pensacola College in Florida but has not played with another Club in Australia. Early on, Clarke looked anything but a budding Basketball star as he was unable to make a Hawks 1 team until a growth spurt and some hard work started to pay dividends at age 16. He was also spotted by another Hawks Legend Matt Snow who has taken a massive interest in Clarke since meeting him. After graduating in to the Hawks youth league program, Clarke quickly became a star and was added to the Hawks State championship men’s team. His ability to use his 203cm frame was quickly spotted by USA College Scouts and Clarke headed to Pensacola for a two year scholarship. Clarke had a solid first season but was really starting to dominate in his second season before3 disaster stuck. After having a massive 24 point and 12 rebound game, Clarke fell awkwardly on his ankle and got the worse possible news. The Big Australian was heading home with a broken foot. “If he didn’t break his foot I am sure he would have played major Division One College Basketball.” Hawks Head Coach Ken Harrington said. “But it was good for us as we welcomed him back with open arms and he has since helped lead us to 6 State Championships.” The tattoos on Clarke’s massive arms or his Number 24 jersey are not what Clarke has become known for. He is simply a loyal and friendly person who has always had time for the Hawks junior’s, and anyone who wants to stop him for a chat. “He talks to anyone and honestly cares about people.” Assistant Coach and Clarkes former Youth Coach Mark Sutton said. “He will be the face of the Clubs (Outside the Locker Room) Mental Health program, and he is perfect for it and has really embraced it.” The last year or two has seen Clarke battle injuries but he continues to deliver as the Hawks starting Centre. His team has been hit hard by injuries in the new NBL1 league, but the Co-Captain, as he has done for 300 games, jut steps up to do more to keep his team competitive. “He is not just a great player but he is truly one of the great people of Basketball in Victoria.” Hawks Head Coach Ken Harrington said. “He was often underrated by other teams but he was never underrated by his Coaches and teammate. We knew of his unselfishness, team first attitude and greatness.” Clarke will have his a large replica Number 24 singlet hung from the rafters of the Rings Stadium joining current teammate Matt Snow and former teammate Willie Weimer who also reached the 300 game milestone. Please join me in welcoming another Hawks Legend in to the 300 Club. NUMBER 24. SHAUN CLARKE 300!!!

Welcome to “The Rings” for our 6th home game for the year and this week the Ringwood Lady Hawks are facing the Southern Sabres. Hawks haven’t played the Sabres in many years with them playing in the SEABL competition last year. Our Lady Hawks are coming into tonight’s game with 6 wins and 2 losses and currently sitting 5th in the NBL1 standings. On Saturday the Lady Hawks played former Big V Rival Waverley Falcons at “The Rings” It was a tough game the whole way through, but the Lady Hawks eventually came out on top beating the Falcons 78-66. Toni Farnworth continued with her impressive performances with a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Cassidy Mihalko filled the stat sheet with 20 points 8 rebounds 2 assists and 3 triples. Then on Sunday the Hawks traveled to MSAC to play the Melbourne Tigers at home in a game which was going to be a fight with stars like Jenna O’Hea and Monique Conti. The game was a close battle all the way through, but The Tigers eventually came out with the victory 90-72. Toni Farnworth was impressive again with 20 points while shooting an impressive 64% from the field. Megan Mullings was strong inside with 15 points and 4 rebounds. Melbourne’s stars shined with Jenna O’Hea having 32 points and 13 rebounds and Louella Tomlinson with 21 points and 11 rebounds. The Lady Hawks are ready to fight against the Sabres today in no doubt will be a head to head clash. The Sabres only played one game last weekend and had a tough loss to a very strong Nunawading Spectres 87-53. The Sabres bring in some very elite talent in Rachel Jarry who is having a very strong season averaging 21 points 8 rebounds and 3 assists which could cause some issues for the hawks if we don’t shut her down early. Tenaya Phillips is having a very good season averaging 14 points and 4 rebounds for the year and is a strong guard for the Sabres. Ella Batish is coming off a good weekend with 13 points and 5 rebound and is going to be strong in the post for the Sabres. Sabres have good players off the bench in Sherry Glennie, Morgan Riley and Deanna Jolliffe. This game gives the Lady Hawks an opportunity to continue with there strong form and to keep building themselves as one of the stronger teams in the NBL1. Get around your Lady Hawks tonight in their clash against the Sabres! Enjoy the Game!

Welcome to the “Rings” stadium for round 7 of NBL1 Men’s Basketball. hosting the Southern Sabres.

Tonight we are

When you think about the Sabres, the first name that comes to mind is Melbourne United star David Barlow. Barlow had an incredible season with United and has carried his form in to NBL1. The Sabres have plenty of depth though with former NBL star Rhys Carter back in Australia and playing well again and the latest addition is Ryan Beisty who will debut tonight after finishing his College commitments. Jaden Wheldon has had a great year as has Tom O’Brien and young Kingsley Box is clearly a name to watch after going off for 33 points. On a disappointing note for the Sabres, they will be most likely without another United player Sam McDaniel who will miss some time with a fracture of his hand. It was another tough weekend for the Hawks who are still in the midst of an injury battle. The good news is that Matt Snow will be back in uniform this week but Trevor Latham is still on the sidelines. Youth league star Yuot Gai has stepped in and played good minutes and will again he called on to do more of the same. The Hawks will need more from Gibson, Miller and Fennell who have all been good at times but were quiet last week. Nathan Truman and Adrien Sturt where good last weekend and will need to be at their best tonight. Tonight is a special night as we celebrate the 300 th game of one of the Clubs best people and best ever players, Shaun Clarke. It has truly been a privilege to Coach Shauny who has NEVER put himself ahead of the team and has been rewarded with 6 Championships as a player. He is someone who has time for everyone, happy to Coach kids and cares about his teammates. He has been one of the most dominant Centres in Victorian Basketball for 10 years. He is well deserving of the honour of having his Jersey hang from the rafters forever. We will need all your support tonight as the boys need to get their season back on the rails and hopefully grab a win for Shauny. The Players and Coaching staff of the Hawks would like to thank the sponsors and supporters for being on board with the team for the inaugural season of NBL1 in 2019.

Lauren Oosdyke joined the Hawks for the 2015 season after a 4 years career at Northern Colorado. She was incredibly popular with teammates and fans with a bubbly personality but as you can see had a business attitude when on the court. Oosdyke helped the Lady Hawks win the Championship.

Welcome to THE RINGS for the first game of VYC double header ,today we play Dandenong. This is a very important game for us to reset and focus on some keys areas that require some improvement that were addressed during the weeks training. This will be our second game of the weekend after playing the Southern Sabres the previous evening. Dandenong have been putting some good results together in the last few weeks and are currently on a 5 game winning streak. During this winning streak they have defeated 2 of the main title challenges in Melbourne (currently on top of the Terrill pool) and Nunawading who are currently 2nd in the Watson pool. Last weekend we played the Altona , after a slow start in which we gave up a ten point quarter time lead, we fought our way back into the contest coming up 5 short at the end of the game, missing some opportunities to come away with the win. A lot was learnt in the process and we will be looking to make amends today. Top performers from the game were Annabel Deerbon with 19 points and 10 rebounds, Brooke McGurgan with a 10 point 13 rebound game and a couple of blocks to boot and Caite Woodman chipped in with 8 points off the bench. Today’s game against the is sure to be a interesting one as Dandenong have a deep and talented roster, with a few girls possibly backing up for their NBL1 commitments the previous night.

Best performers for Dandenong in their tight win over Nunawading were, Emily Sewell 26 points and 10 rebounds, Elly Morgan 12 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assist and Hannah Rapp 10 points and 4 rebounds. We will need to play with Defensive intensity for the whole game to shut down Dandenong’s offensive opportunities for us to come away with the win We hope you enjoy the game!

Welcome to The Rings for this Round 9 clash of the 2019 Big V VYCM season. Today, we welcome the top-of-the-table Dandenong Rangers (11-0). Last weekend, your Hawks (8-3) hosted the Blackburn Vikings on Mother’s Day. It was a one-sided first period as the boys built a quick double-digit lead. This was short lived with the Vikes raining in threes in the second period. With only 4-points in it at the half, tensions were high. The playing group did a great job to remain focussed, particularly as they were ahead in every stat category except shooting percentage. Sticking to our game plan, we outscored Blackburn in the second half by 17, running out winners by 21 (90-69). Sebastien Lees (15pts, 7rebs, 6asts) led from the front, whilst Lachie Ahale (12pts, 11rebs) and Angok Angok (14pts, 9rebs, 2asts) also went to work. Ben Linkin (10pts, 3rebs, 2asts) and Zac Dawson (8pts) provided great scoring punch off the bench. Dandenong also got the W last weekend, as they hosted the Keilor Thunder. Winning every period in the game, the Rangers continued their 2019 season dominance with a 25 -point rout (93-68). Lachlan Viney (21pts, 3asts) poured on the points in only 17minutes, and was well supported by Ryan Rapp (19pts, 7rebs, 3asts) and Kobe Williamson (17pts, 6rebs). This is a great test for us. With both teams coming off a game last night, fatigue may play a role in this one. Dandenong are always formidable but adding arguably the best junior players from their respective former clubs in Lachlan Viney (Hawthorn) and Kobe Williamson (Southern), they are even more stacked! We will have to play our best to compete in this one. Enjoy the game and good luck to both teams. The VYCM would like to thank the referees, score bench officials, committee, and supporters for their contributions.
