Ringwood hosts Bendigo this week in the Outside The Locker Room (OTLR) round. OTLR is a non-for profit organisation that provides support to sporting clubs, schools and workplaces and also educates them about mental health, addiction and domestic violence. The Lady Hawks slipped to 7-3 last week after going down to Frankston. They will welcome back leading scorer Toni Farnworth, who missed the game against the Blues. The Braves had had a stellar start to the season and sit 10-1 after last weekend. No doubt Ringwood will have their hands full guarding WNBL trio Kelly Wilson, Tessa Lavey and Gabe Richards. The Bendigo men haven’t quite had the start the women have and entering the round have a 5-6 record. Mathiang Muo has been a massive inclusion for them, while Ray Turner has dominated this season averaging 21.8 points per game. Ringwood does welcome back Shaun Clarke, which is huge for the home side.
WOMEN’S STATS
TOO IMPORTANT TO IGNORE As an 18-year-old man it has recently hit me hard that mental health is a major issue amongst teenagers and younger adults causing so much anger and sadness for the person suffering and those around them. Why is it that people don’t seek any help? I believe it’s because they feel alone, weak and embarrassed of how other people will judge them, between the ages of 15 and 21 things such as school, work and the responsibilities of becoming an adult cause stress to build up and eventually cause young people to develop mental health issues. The community needs to be made aware and educated on how serious this issue is but at the moment the majority don’t understand or show enough interest in the issue. Teens also struggle to find support due to not knowing who to turn to and don’t exactly know how to approach it themselves. If organizations run educational and promotional programs to make everyone aware of how to get help and where to find it the issue itself may decrease significantly. Mental Health is growing at a rapid rate in Australia putting families through hell and to some extreme lengths costing lives. Early help is what these young adults and teenagers need, the sooner we get on top of the issue the better and they will be more likely to recover from their mental health issue. Another way to prevent it is by making sure your loved ones are okay and taking the time out to show some compassion towards them by letting them know they’re not alone and that it’s okay to ask for help. Watching those around me suffer and go through something this sinister has made me feel sorrowful due to always seeing someone else go through it, if we don’t act soon by getting them help it may become even bigger than it already is.
From an 18 year old young man Tonight’s warm up tops are for sale. They will be available for sale until 3pm Sunday afternoon. The proceeds will go towards the implementation of the OTLR program in our Club. The long sleeve warm up have been donated by Maker Sports and are only $20. (plus $5 for postage if required)
OUR MISSION Outside The Locker Room Foundation is a non-for profit organisation that is dedicated to supporting sporting clubs, schools and work places for their welfare and education requirements across Australia. Focusing on areas such as mental health, drugs, alcohol, gambling and domestic violence our program educates and brings awareness to these topics. Our passion is to not only educate but to also provide a safe, secure and private welfare platforms for individuals to access 24/7 in a time of need.
Mental Health has never been considered as important as physical health but now the two go hand in hand. Outside the Locker Room is helping kids of all ages within sporting organisations in coming out to get help against diseases like Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar disorder and other diseases that are effecting the youth. Digging deep today will help people who are being effected by these diseases and that’s why Ringwood Hawks have partnered with “Outside the Locker Room.”

Welcome to the “Rings stadium for Round 9 of NBL1 action. Today is a special event as we welcome the Bendigo Braves and also introduce the Outside the Locker room program to the Club. The Braves are a very talented team led by Sydney King’s big man Ray Turner. Turner is back for his second season with the Braves and is having another outstanding season. Deonte Burton is one the best athletes in the League and Matt Andronicos provides the Braves a great inside target. There is plenty of shooting on this team as well, with Bartlett, Hogan, Hansen and Matthiang Muo all capable of lighting it up. The Braves are coached by David Hogan, a former great on the court who is in his first season on the sidelines. Bendigo sit in 11th position with 5 wins from 11 games. Last week the Hawks fell a point short in a fantastic contest against Frankston. Whilst the foul that was called in the final 5 seconds was hard to accept, the guys must understand that it was the slow start that really came back to haunt them. In some good news, hopefully today the team will possibly have Shaun Clarke or Trevor Latham back in uniform, which will be important against a team like the Braves and their interior strength. Jacob Gibson, Nathan Truman and Joey Miller have continued their good form and Adrien Sturt has been terrific the last few weeksat both ends of the court. Matt Fennell had another great game last week and the Hawks will need that from him again this week. The team have certainly looked better with Matt Snow back in the roster providing the on court leadership that the team needs. The Outside the Locker room program is something that both teams have been fully supportive of today. The Bendigo players and staff have been terrific in supporting us for this game and are also using the program throughout their Club. Please support us by donating today or jump on line and purchase one of the players warm up tops from today. They are great value at just $20. The Players and Coaching staff of the Hawks would like to thank Noel Jones Ringwood, Physica Ringwood and all our sponsors and supporters for being on board with the team for 2019. Enjoy the game.

Welcome to THE RINGS for the first game of VYC double header tonight we play Nunawading this is a going to be a tough and tight game, both teams match up well against each other making for an interesting contest. Nunawading currently sit 1st on the Watson ladder and have been playing some good basketball this season, they have a balanced squad and work well together. Last weekend we played the Melbourne and Waverley we split the weekends results in game 1 we made a strong start and lead by 6 at the end of the first quarter, Melbourne had the better of the second quarter as we didn’t take full advantage of open looks in the second, the 3rd quarter was very even, in the last we locked down on defence and came away with a good nine point win. key performers were, Annabel Deerbon with 25 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists , Dani Calvisi came off the bench with 10 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists and Alysha Casey had 9 points and 3 rebounds. In game 2 v Waverley after a tight first half we fell away, with a number of key players in foul trouble and combined with a poor shooting game, it’s a game that was the total opposite of the night before. Stand out performers were Courtney Lyons with 16 points and Caite Woodman with 10 points. Today’s game against the is sure to be a tough and physical contest, Nunawading are playing some impressive basketball and have a talented squad, lead By Bec Eddy with 12 points and 5 rebounds per game, Rachel Poke with 11.69 points 3 assists per game, as well as shooting the 3 ball @ 40%. It’s a balanced team with many players making contributions So it will be imperative we play with Defensive intensity to shut down Nunawading offensive opportunities for us to come away with the win We hope you enjoy the game! The Ringwood Hawks Coaches and Players wish to thank their sponsors, volunteers and supporters.

Welcome to The Rings for this Round 11 clash of the 2019 Big V VYCM season. Today, we welcome the Melbourne Tigers (8-5). Last weekend, your Hawks (12-3) played their second consecutive double-header. First up we hosted the Keilor Thunder in what was a scrappy affair. Despite establishing a couple of healthy leads in the first half, the Thunder kept fighting back. There were plenty of lead changes and ties throughout. Up four heading into the final term, Keilor levelled the scores with seconds remaining. A time-out, advance of the ball, and sideline inbound offense saw Yuot Gai (15pts, 14rebs, 5blks) make a running layup on the buzzer to seal a 2-point victory (77-75). Accompanying Yuot as game standouts were Matthew Roberts (28pts, 5rebs, 5asts) and Sebastien Lees (12pts, 8asts). In our second encounter, the boys faced the Falcons away at Waverley. Assistant Coach Jeremy O’Toole stepped up in my absence and got the job done in another hard-fought game, coming out on top by a single point (67-66). Sebastien (18pts, 5rebs) was again excellent, well supported by Harry Love (15pts, 6rebs, 3asts) and Ethan Pimblett (13pts, 5rebs). Melbourne had a break last weekend, so will be well rested heading into this game. Players to watch out for include Alexander HigginsTitsha (19.4pts, 7.7rebs), Mason Gaze (15.4pts, 4.5rebs, 3.6asts) and Jakob Cornelissen (12.2pts, 2.8rebs). It is going to be a tough weekend for the boys. In their third straight double-header (Raiders away tomorrow), the workload is beginning to take a toll. We will be without Matthew Roberts and Yuot Gai (NBL1), Kaide Fittolani and Blake Ward (injury), and questionable will be Ben Linkin (illness) and Zac Dawson (injury). Plenty of opportunity for our young-guns to keep stepping up in what has been a 9-game win streak. Enjoy the game and good luck to both teams. The VYCM would like to thank the referees, score bench officials, committee, and supporters for their contributions. .
