NBL1 basketball returns to The Rings on today when the Hawks host the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence. The Lady Hawks continue to perform well, and at the start of the round hold a 9-4 record. This is game that on paper they should win, considering the CoE have had just two victories so far this season. However, they will have to be on their game against the country’s best youngsters. It’s been a tough season for the Ringwood men, however a win at home would do them plenty of good. Jacob Gibson (21.7ppg) will be a big in if he returns, but if he doesn’t the Hawks still have a big opportunity against a CoE team that has been depleted by national team selection and college scholarships.
WOMEN’S STATS Welcome to “The Rings” for the 9th time this season. This week the Lady hawks are facing the young and athletic Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence for the second time this season in which is going to prove to be a tough fight. Last time the Lady Hawks faced the BA COE the hawks came out on top 83-72 at home and started off their season on a winning note. Lady Hawks played the BA COE in the first game of the season and there were big performances on both teams, Toni Farnworth had 25 points and 7 assists while other Hawk counterpart Megan Mullings had 21 points and 7 rebounds. The COE had big performances from Isabel Palmer who had 22 points and 7 rebounds in only 27 minutes of game time while Lily Scanlon filled the stat sheet with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. BA COE are having a tough season to this point currently sitting at 2-13 and are sitting at the bottom in the NBL 1 standings, but have been on some good form recently getting an impressive win over Launceston, but also coming off a tough loss to Frankston last week losing 82 -70. The Lady Hawks are continuing to certify themselves as a finals team within the league and with a 4-point win over the Waverly Falcons last Sunday in Rivalry round. Last week there were some big performers for the Lady Hawks with Megan Mullings scoring a game high 27 points and 10 rebounds. Cassidy Mihalko also proving huge for the lady hawks in crunch time with 22 points and Neehara Ravikumar getting a career high for the NBL1 and a game high 8 assists. Toni Farnworth won’t being playing this week with duties playing at the world cup qualifiers for 3X3 for the New Zealand national team. Jacqui Trotto is also questionable today with not playing last week against the Falcons in the injury she suffered in the last home game against the Bendigo Braves. This will be a key game for the Lady Hawks looking to continue with their top 6 form and the BA COE looking to keep improving each week. Enjoy the Game!

Welcome to The Rings for Round 11 of the NBL1 season and today we face young and talented Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence squad. The COE are current sitting with a record of 7 wins and 8 losses and is a young and athletic group of players with bright futures ahead. These two teams met in round one and matched up very well, with Ringwood coming out with a 9-point win behind Jacob Gibson’s 31 points. The COE holds a different roster from our round one matchup as they have lost five key players, including Isaiah Lee and Hunter Goodrick as they depart for college in America. Yet coach Adam Capron still have plenty of talent to work with, including Mojave King and Joshua Bannan who have the ability to step up and play big roles for COE. The Hawks will need to stay focused throughout the game to hold off the COE as they have the skills and ability to quickly turn the game around. The Hawks are coming off a disappointing performance of the NBL1’s ‘Rivalry Round’ as they lost by 19 points to the Waverly Falcons. The Falcons starters combined for 79 points including 30 from Deondre McWhorter as the Hawks struggled on the defensive end. Joey Miller and Matt Snow stepped and scored 21 and 20 points respectively as the Hawks were missing offensive firepower with Jacob Gibson out with a knee injury but there is hope he returns for this weekend’s matchups. The Hawks also faced the Eltham Wildcats last night at Eltham High School in a rematch of last year’s Big V grand final series. The Hawks played the Wildcats in round 4 and came through with a 6-point win in double overtime. This was also an important game for the Hawks and a win would be good as the Hawks are coming into the pointy end of the season. Thank you to our sponsors and volunteers who have continued to keep the Hawks on the court and ready for 2019. Enjoy the game.

Welcome to THE RINGS for the first game of VYC double header today we play Diamond Valley Eagles. This is a very important game for us to see how well we can bounce back following Saturdays loss to Kilsyth. Diamond Valley currently sit 5th on the Terrill ladder and have been playing well of late as they are currently on a 3 game winning streak. Last Saturday we played the Kilsyth Cobras and in a close game with the scores locked at 35 at half time. We had a good second half at the defensive end holding Kilsyth to under 30 points . We just didn’t make the open shots to take control of the contest, and eventually we went down by 8 points.. Key performers were, Charlotte Wilson with 14 points, Courtney Lyons 12 points and Kiahna Liddy 11 points and 4 assist. Today’s game against the Eagles is sure to be a tough and physical contest. Diamond Valley are playing some impressive basketball and have a talented squad led By Brianna Gregory-Johnson 11 ppg and 9 rpg, Eliza Bannan 7.5 ppg and 3.5 rpg and Abbey Hildebrand 7ppg per game. Beyond these girls they are an even scoring team with anyone able to step it up so it will be imperative we play with defensive intensity to shut down Diamond Valley’s offensive opportunities for us to come away with the win We hope you enjoy the game! The Ringwood Hawks Coaches and Players wish to thank their sponsors, volunteers and supporters . GO HAWKS!
