There is PLENTY going on at the Rings on Saturday night. It’s the NBL1’s Indigenous Round, which appropriately comes during NAIDOC week. On top of that, the Hawks will be enjoying their final regular-season home game by celebrating the 20 year anniversary of the 1999 Men’s Championship. The Lady Hawks are up first against the Launceston Tornadoes in a game they should win. The Tornadoes are just 3-14 on the year, while Ringwood sits 4th after handing Geelong just their second loss of the year last weekend. It’s been a tougher season for the Ringwood men, who haven’t quite been able to string wins together and sit 5-13 in whats’s been a super close competition. North West Tassie are 7-10 and have been buoyed by the recent addition of Kai Woodfall (11.2ppg). The Hawks will be eager to score one last home win before the season is over. It’s sure to be a great night at the Rings to cap off what’s been a fun regular season in the brand new NBL1 competition.

Well, it only seemed like a few weeks ago that we started the new NBL1 season with great optimism and excitement. How fast the time does fly as tonight is our last Home Game of the season and we welcome North-West Tasmania Thunder. Like the Hawks, the Thunder have had very much an up and down season. With a current record of 7 wind and 10 losses, the Thunder are still mathematically a chance to make the playoffs so they will be very hungry for a win tonight. There is plenty of talent in this team with Nicholas Banyard and Jordan Bowling providing a great 1-2 scoring punch. Joe Chilcott, Lachie Dent and Kai Woodfall are young and impressive trio that have shown they are capable of putting up big numbers at this level. Veteran Paul Campbell is providing great impact of the bench, as is 16 year old Reyne Smith who has been impressive averaging nearly 8ppg. The Thunder are well Coached by former SEABL star Sam Armstrong. It was another frustrating loss for the Hawks last week after drawing within 3 points of Geelong late in the last quarter. Matt Fennell was great in the last quarter but like so many times this season the boys could not get their nose in front at the right time. The Hawks want to finish the season strong and as this is their last home game of the year, will hope to play their best. As this is the last chance, the team would like to thank a few people around the Club for their massive contribution to our Club. Firstly a big thanks to Tim Mottin and the Committee of the RBA for supporting the team in this first season of NBL1. To Bryon and Lucinda on the Stats who we rely on year after year we say a HUGE thanks. Game Day Manager Michelle Jordison is easily the best in the League and gets plenty of help from Amanda Brincat who stepped up this year in a big way. Our guy sitting 10 feet above the court on the camera is Dale, thanks to you mate, great job. To Brian and the score bench, the great people behind the Bar and not to mention all our duty teams and Parents. Thanks to you all. Next week we will have our final game at Dandenong, but we are committed to having a massive off season and look forward to showing you a focussed and hungry Hawks in 2020. We hope you will be back to support us and thank you for your support this year.

MENS SEASON STATS
WOMENS SEASON STATS
Welcome to THE RINGS for the Final home game of the home and away 2019 season for our Victorian Youth Championship Women! Today we take on The Knox Raiders, they are a young team with a lot girls still playing U18’s on a Friday night, with a few more experienced players rounding out the squad, with a young team they have been somewhat inconsistent during the season, but their best is definitely good enough to beat teams ranked in the top 4 of either pool. Today’s game will I’m sure be a tight physical contest with Knox looking to finish the season on a high note with a win over a finals bound Hawks, they have a talented squad Lead by Arielle Williams with 16.42 PPG and 5 RPG, Georgia Baldwin is having an outstanding season with 14 points and 10.53 rebounds per game Zoe Jenkins has had a good season averaging 12.44 PPG and 5.44 Rpg. We will need to be focused at both ends of the floor to come away with a win today and secure a home final next week. Today also represents the final regular season home game for the Hawks 3 senior players, Bec Noller, Courtney Lyons and Dani Calvisi. All 3 are outstanding young women who bring great leadership to our team. Firstly I’d like to thank Bec Noller for her outstanding contributions to the Hawks youth league team since 2011. Bec is the only player still playing since my first season in 2013 (I was an Assistant coach) where she had a breakout season after only playing limited games in her first 2 seasons, that season we made the preliminary final V Sandringham. In 2014 Bec was simply outstanding and leading player in a very young team. She achieved the team MVP for this season leading the team into the finals. Her season averages were 16.4 ppg and 6.6 rpg. Season 2015 Bec was on the sidelines for the first few games with an injury that still plagues her today, once she was fit it didn’t take long to get back to her best and had a fine season averaging 13.21 ppg and 5.3 rpg and she was joint team MVP for our team. 2016 was to be Bec’s standout season as well as for the team, we went on a super impressive season going 20 wins and 2 losses, including an 18 game winning streak, Bec Averaged an incredible 16.9 ppg and 5.9 rpg her season was simply outstanding and was recognised by Making the VYCW AllStar 5 and taking her 3rd team MVP. In 2017 Bec balanced playing role between the senior women’s team as her first preference in recognition of her previous fine seasons in VYC, Bec came and played in the youth team when games didn’t clash, her ability and basketball IQ was as such she slipped into the team seamlessly. This was the season we made the grand final, it’s fair to say Bec had a massive game V Nunawading in the Quarter final, making key shots hitting 5 3’s on her way to 24 points (ultimately helping us advance to the semi final against Dandenong). In this game Bec’s Shoulder was badly hurt but she continued to play on for the remainder of the finals series, but without the ability to shoot her signature 3 point shoot ultimately were were runners up. During this season Bec Averaged 11.5 ppg and 4.3 rpg. The 2018 season again injury was to play a part, the shoulder meant a delayed start to the season and balancing the 2 teams was becoming more and more difficult, with the late start to the season youth would become her priority once more, the season was one of over coming injury and getting form back but through all this Bec was still made significant contributions. Averaging 9 ppg and 3 rebounds. Once again this time in the last game of the season a loss to Nunawading Bec would suffer a major injury in a game V Nunawading. In this her last season Bec didn’t play until the 8th game in May, up until this time she was acting as an assistant coach and doing a great job, this season has been around managing her body fully understanding that any major injury would see the end of her playing career at youth level, whilst her numbers are not what they once were she continues to make impact in games like last weekend V Hume chipping in for 8 very handy points and 5 rebounds off the bench. Her leadership on court is something the girls appreciate. There are 2 regular season games of Bec’s that stand out to me are in 2014 we were playing Geelong at home, with a very short handed team of only 8 players and we were struggling for scorers, Rebekah Sparrow and I had worked out the only way we could possibly win this game was to give all the first scoring opportunities to Bec Noller, history would show this was her career high night with 34 points @ 43% from the field and 11/12 from the foul line to go with 8 rebounds 3 assists and 3 steals, we went down by 3 points, in the post game function, the comment from the Geelong coach Rod Boone was, there are many shooters I have seen over the years but you are a legitimate scorer referring to Bec. The other game of note was an away game in Bendigo, it was Mother’s Day 2016 in Bendigo. Where Bec Scored 29 points and had 7 rebounds, whilst not a career night the whole offence revolved around her as she was the only consistent scorer, not only did Bec score the ball in she facilitated better shots for her team mates, such was the defensive attention she received. After playing the 40 minutes without once complaining, the moment we got to the change rooms she collapsed and had a hypo, resulting in her going to hospital in Bendigo for observation, thanks to Michelle Stringer for taking her. We won this game by 8 points
Key Stats for Bec in the Youth League team 143 games played includes today 1582 points @11.06 ppg 640 rebounds @ 4.47 rpg. Team Captain 2015 and 2016, 3 x Team MVP 2014,15,16 VYCW Allstar 2016. Thanks Bec for 9 years of commitment to this team, you are a very special person and I wish you every success for now and the future. Thanks for allowing me to be apart of your basketball and life journey over the last 7 years. The second player I’d like to recognise is Courtney Lyons. I’ve known Courtney since she was 9 years of age and watched her game develop from close up and a far, she joined the Hawks in 2014 and had a strong season averaging 9.19 ppg and 5.05 rpg, as well as being a strong defender getting some tough jobs during the year locking down on key players. In 2015 Courtney was to be a co captain with Bec Noller, but her season came to a crashing end in our first practice game playing Sunbury, during a rebounding contest, she dislocated her shoulder and it required a full reconstruction, so most the season whilst she was rehabilitating her injury, she came back for 3 games at the end of the season before going to college. The 2016 season Courtney came back from college and played the last 10 games of the home and away season, she came back to a team that was in red hot form and in the middle of a 18 game winning streak, whilst definitely being good enough to start, she gladly accepted the role of coming off the bench and she helped keep the momentum going adding to our incredible depth that season. Courtney Averaged 7ppg and 4 rpg in 20 minutes. Due to College commitments and representing Scotland she didn’t play in the 17 and 18 seasons but continued to train with the team during this time, always adding to the depth to scrimmages and helping lift the quality of trainings. In this 2019 Courtney has now finished her playing time at Newberry College, she joined the team in early May, after a few games settling in she has become a valuable member of the team once again, providing scoring punch from the perimeter and locking down on key offensive players of the opposition. It’s been a pleasure having Courtney in the team to finish her youth league career. She brings great experience to the team and has fitted in perfectly. It’s been an absolute pleasure to have coached Courtney not just at Ringwood but in her junior domestic days also, I wish you every success now and in the future and thanks for allowing me to be apart of your Basketball and life journey. Last but by no means least is Dani Calvisi, Dani is the team Captain for 2019 in her second season at Ringwood, at the beginning of preparation for the 2018 season Neehara Ravikumar asked me if I was interested in Dani as a player for our team, I jumped at the opportunity as I remembered her Bulleen one day and she had a fantastic game against us, she is a fantastic young lady who was looking to get back into basketball at the start of 2018. Dani bought good leadership to the team and added depth in an area we needed in 2018, Dani Brings an ability to play multiple positions and is happy to do what ever it takes to help the team, she has a crafty crossover to get to the rim from the high post, she works hard at both ends of the floor picking up handy rebounds along the way. It’s been a pleasure having Dani in the team for the last 2 seasons. In 2018 Dani Averaged 5.8ppg and 5 rpg and this season she has lifted her out put to 8.5ppg and 6 rpg. Dani I wish you all the best for now and the future, you’ll be an awesome school teacher and the kids will be lucky to have a fantastic young lady teaching the next generation. As this is our last home game of the 2019 season, I'd like to thank those involved in the team and the volunteers around our club. First and foremost I'd like to say a thanks to my Assistant Lance Wright this is our 3rd year together and it's been another strong season, his input and support is one I couldn't do without, as well as coaching the u18-1 girls and Rebecca Noller who due to injury delaying her playing start to the season has been fantastic as an assistant coach, she brings her playing IQ to the coaches bench and her feed back has been invaluable, Bec has managed to combine her playing and coaching roles well as she became fit to play. To Michelle Parker-Liddy our team manager/ team mum, thanks for all you do for the girls and organising the drinks towels and assisting the players needs during the game, we all thank you very much. Finally I'd like to thank game day staff, our game commissioners and Volunteers for presenting one of the VYC’s best game day experiences, everything seems to be organised so well, thanks to the roster junior teams for their part in the day. To the Bryon and Lucinda and the score table thanks for all you do in helping 2019 being another successful season on and off the court. We hope you enjoy the game!

Welcome to The Rings for this final round of the 2019 BigV VYCM season. Today, we welcome the Eltham Wildcats (18-2). Last weekend, your Hawks (14-7) could not change their luck, producing another sub-par performance. Hosting the Hawthorn Magic, the boys trailed for most of the game, simply due to our inability to convert on the offensive end. Shooting 34%, 22% and 47% from mid-range, deep, and the charity stripe respectively, we were unable to overcome the Magic, going down by 3 (67-70). Angok Angok (18pts, 10rebs, 3stls, 2blks), Yuot Gai (13pts, 13rebs, 4blks) and Kaide Fittolani (13pts, 3rebs, 4asts) were among our best. Eltham join us after splitting their double-header last weekend. On Saturday, the Wildcats went down to the Nunawading Spectres by 17 (50-67), before bouncing back on Sunday to defeat the Sandringham Sabres by 3 (85-82). Without starters in Ovie Magbegor and Christian Yammouni, on NBL1 duties, this was a pretty good outcome for the team. Eltham enter today after playing a game last night against the Diamond Valley Eagles. Your Hawks will have fresh legs. Any edge we can get will be great as the Wildcats have been the benchmark all year and cannot be toppled from their first place atop the Watson ladder. The Hawks on the other hand can finish anywhere from 2nd to 4th depending on how this game and results of games involving Nunawading and Kilsyth end up. This is set to be a ripper, with much on the line. Enjoy the game and good luck to both teams. The VYCM would like to thank the referees, score bench officials, committee, and supporters for their contributions in 2019. Though on the precipice of finals, home games are yet to be determined. We look forward to a long and productive finals run, and to returning for a bigger and brighter 2020!
