HISTORICAL LOGOS OF THE RINGWOOD HAWKS

Celebrating the Clubs 40th year of Basketball

Despite the Covid season causing havoc, we are up to Round 16 of the NBL1 and we are getting very close to the pointy end. The Hawks women are officially “rolling” with some big wins over the last few rounds. Funda and Marena have both be in great form and expect them to continue that this week. It has been the opposite for the Hawks men who may have walked under a ladder and can’t get a break when they need it. Hopefully all that changes this week and the boys can revive their finals hopes. What a massive week it has been for Basketball too with the Opal and the Boomers doing their thing in Tokyo. And making some headlines And not to mention the great result for Josh Giddey being drafted at number 6 in the NBA draft. Tonight is a another game where we cant have any fans in the building so we hope you enjoy the free live stream from your homes.

Welcome to The Rings for round 16 of the NBL1 South season as the Hawks play host to the Dandenong Rangers. The Rangers are 3-9 on the season and sit 15th on the NBL1 South Women’s ladder after 15 rounds. The Rangers come into this game having lost last time out against the Kilsyth Cobras (83-70) and will be looking to bounce back tonight against the Hawks. The Rangers are led by stars Emilee Harmon who is currently averaging 21.81 ppg, 8.27 rpg, 1.72 apg and 1.18 spg and Tenaya Sooalo who is averaging 13.09 ppg, 4.00 rpg and 2.81 apg coming into round 16. Last week, the Hawks bounced back from our own loss to Kilsyth (prior to lockdown) and were able to win at home against the Diamond Valley Eagles and followed that up with a win at Waverley against the Falcons. For the Hawks, we head into another double header this week facing the Rangers tonight followed by the Bendigo Braves tomorrow. We will be looking to build upon our wins last week and continue to regain our rhythm after the latest layoff due to lockdown. A win tonight will continue to show our competitiveness as we continue our fight for a playoff spot. Leading the Hawks so far this year are Funda Nakkasoglu who is currently averaging 19.16 ppg, 3.50 rpg, 2.75 apg and 1.00 spg and Marena Whittle who is averaging 17.23 ppg, 10.92 rpg, 2.23 apg, 2.30 spg and 1.07 bpg coming into round 16. Thank you for continuing to support us and I hope you enjoy tonight’s action. GO HAWKS!

Welcome to NBL1 Basketball for round 16 action. Tonight we welcome the Dandenong Rangers to the Rings. It was another tough weekend for the Hawks last week with two close losses against the Diamond Valley Eagles and the Waverley Falcons. The Hawks had their chances in both games but missed a few opportunities and went without a touch of luck when needed. CJ AsuncionByrd and Adrien Sturt both had very good weekends leading the team in scoring in both games. The Rangers have had an up and down season with just the 3 wins so far but have looked very good since the inclusion of former Melbourne United player Venky Jois. Jois provides the Rangers another scoring option along with Sean McDonald (19ppg)) and the impressive Oliver HayesBrown who is averaging 19ppg and 9 rebounds. Marley Biyendolo is also back from his time on Big Brother and former Hawks junior Michael Wearne is having a solid season. With a spot in the playoffs becoming harder and harder, the Hawks will be super hungry to get their season back on track. With a game again on Sunday at Bendigo, the Hawks will have to remain focussed and play at their best against the Rangers. The Hawks will have to keep a close eye on the inside firepower of the Rangers whilst McDonald must be kept in check from the perimeter. The empty stadiums take a bit of getting used to but both teams will should now be getting used to it. I am sure the teams will both be creating their own atmosphere which still makes the games great to watch on line. Thanks to our great sponsors and volunteers who help put our NBL1 product on the floor each week. It’s the great people at The Sebel Ringwood, Noel Jones Maroondah, Bendigo Bank Ringwood and Fodmapped for You that we owe big time. We hope you enjoy the game from the comfort of your home. Go Hawks

Waverley Falcons 65 def by Ringwood Hawks 74 (Women)

The Ringwood Hawks have secured its second win in 24 hours, holding off the Waverley Falcons on the road. Despite an opening flurry from the Falcons, Ringwood never trailed, playing from in front for the vast majority of the game. The Hawks leaned on its dynamic duo of Funda Nakkasoglu (21 points) and Marena Whittle (24 points, eight rebounds) to remain in control as Waverley tried its best to wrestle the lead back. Ranae Makrzycki (18 points, 14 rebounds) did her part to keep the Falcons within striking distance of the lead, helping to tie the game early in the second half, however it would not be enough, as Ringwood’s execution proved too much to overcome. The Hawks outscored Waverley 7-1 across a slow final five minutes of action to lock in the victory. Ringwood Hawks 84 def Diamond Valley Eagles 74 (Women) The Ringwood Hawks have outlasted a spirited effort from the Diamond Valley Eagles to run away with its eighth win of the season. Led by 46 combined points from Funda Nakkasoglu (24 points) and Marena Whittle (22 points), the Hawks never trailed, en route to its 10-point victory. The win was by no means a walkover however, as Diamond Valley’s young stars kept Ringwood on its toes for much of the first half. Sophie Burrows (22 points) continues to thrive in a larger offensive role for the Eagles, while Olivia Bontempelli (21 points) kept up her streak of strong scoring games. Diamond Valley came close to taking the lead towards the end of the second half, however the Hawks were able to hold the visitors at bay, going on a 20-7 run to close the first half and open the second. Ringwood continued to pile on the points, extending its lead to 22 points with Ringwood Hawks 88 def by Diamond Valley Eagles 97 (Men) The Diamond Valley Eagles have ensured Ringwood’s losing streak continued on Saturday night, handing the Hawks its fourth straight loss. After a competitive first half, Diamond Valley settled into a comfortable scoring groove, led by Robert Heath (29 points, seven rebounds, five steals), Ngor Manyang (22 points) and Blacia Owili (19 points, eight rebounds). On the back of the trio’s effort, the Eagles never trailed across the final 20 minutes of action and led by as many as 15 points in the final term. CJ Ascuncion-Byrd (28 points) did his best to match Diamond Valley in the scoring department, while Matt Snow (13 assists) distributed the ball around well for his teammates, however it would not be enough for Ringwood, as the side sinks two games below .500. ix minutes remaining before taking its foot off the gas and cruising to a 10 point win. Waverley Falcons 89 def Ringwood Hawks 82 (Men) The Ringwood Hawks have dropped its second game of the weekend, this time going down in a hard fought game against Waverley. Ringwood closed a back-and-forth first term with a six point lead thanks to a buzzer-beating triple from CJ Asuncian-Byrd (29 points). That would prove to be the largest lead of the game for the Hawks, as Waverley turned the tables on the visitors late in the second quarter, going on a 16-3 run to take an eight-point lead into half-time. Led by a steady performance from Dexter Kernich-Drew (23 points, six assists, five rebounds), the Falcons never trailed in the second half, leading by as many as 12 points before having to fight off a spirited comeback effort from Ringwood. The Hawks cut the lead to a single point late multiple times in the final term, however Waverley held firm, pushing its lead back out to a comfortable margin.

Welcome to The Rings for this Round 20 match-up between our VYCW Ringwood Hawks and the Ballarat Rush. This game is the second of a double header for our girls this weekend, playing away to rivals Kilsyth last night. Our previous meeting with Ballarat came not too long ago, a hard-fought game saw the lead exchange multiple times, with The Rush running out 68-58 winners. We hope to be able to flip the script in this one, with a chance to grab a finals spot just within reach. We returned from lockdown last weekend, with our Hawks traveling to Sunbury to face an in-form Jets team. After a low scoring first quarter, we were able to put the foot down in the second, going into half time with a 30-13 lead. However, Sunbury put up a fight in the second half bringing the margin back to as close as 4 points. In the end, we were able to seal a 66-57 victory away from home. Kiahana Liddy (15pts, 7reb, 2stl) celebrated her birthday with a win, while Sienna Koh (9pts, 7reb, 6ast) and Katrina Warton (10pts, 5reb) had significant contributions. A big week at training this week has us ready to put out a great performance on our home court today. We hope you enjoy!
