HISTORICAL LOGOS OF THE RINGWOOD HAWKS
Celebrating the Clubs 40th year of Basketball
Lockdown 5.0 has come and gone and it is great to be back on court with some NBL1 action and what better was to re start it than with a local rivalry against the Diamond Valley Eagles. There is so much Basketball going on at the moment with the Boomers and Opals doing their thing at the Tokyo Olympics, the NBA Draft (shout out to Josh Giddey who we saw here last year) and NBL /WNBL teams who are signing players on a daily basis for the upcoming NBL22 season. Congrats to all the NBL1 players who have signed on to NBL/WNBL Clubs so far, including our own Demi Skinner (Bendigo) and Marena Whittle (Adelaide). Hopefully CJ Asuncion -Byrd is next as he has had an impressive debut NBL1 season and would be a great addition to any NBL Club. I hope you enjoy tonight’s game and we expect a pretty big audience with no fans in venues. It will be lonely here tonight but hopefully we can get you all back here soon. Enjoy the call!!
It has been a few weeks but it is fantastic to have NBL1 Basketball back in our stadiums and tonight it’s Ringwood V Diamond Valley. The Eagles have had a tough season so far with just 2 wins but in their last game before Lockdown 5 they had an impressive win over the Frankston Blues. There is plenty of talent on this Eagles team who are led by the in form Olivia Bontempelli. The dangerous Bontempelli is now a veteran in this league and had a fantastic game against the Blues but has been consistent all season. As far as young guns are concerned, the Eagles are locked and loaded with Imogen Rock, Jade Dunne and Sophie Burrows enjoying the opportunity to step in to a major team role while another veteran Ash McBean is still a great target in the middle for the Eagles. There is a familiar face on the DV squad with Keli Romas (Hawks Youth league) back from College and playing well since she joined the squad a few weeks ago. The Hawks were disappointing, losing on the buzzer at Kilsyth and that means tonight’s game becomes even more important for a team with finals hopes. Marena Whittle has been in great form for most of the season as has Funda and Demi Skinner. Hope Terdich has provided an inside target for the Hawks all year and a good performance by her will go along way in the Hawks playing well tonight. Toni Farnworth was back to some of her best form prior to the lockdown and if she can continue that form it gives the team a massive boost. Even though we are in an empty stadium tonight, please catch the game on the live streams. Thanks to all our sponsors and Club volunteers. We hope you enjoy the game .

Welcome back to NBL 1 Basketball, it has been a few weeks off for the South conference thanks to COVID but we are back tonight and welcome the Diamond Valley Eagles to the Rings. Unfortunately and as I am sure you know, we are playing games with no fans allowed in the building so we hope you are going to enjoy the Live Stream of tonight’s game which is available via the NBL1 website of the NBL app. Tonight’s game is going to be interesting for many many reasons. Firstly, this is two teams that are very evenly matched up all over the court and secondly they both have very similar win loss records and sit in the same spot on the NBL1 ladder. Eagles veterans Matt Reynolds. Ben Allen and Darcy Harding provide the team the constant positive presence and leadership while young guns Robert Heath and Joel Capetola are providing the scoring spark from the perimeter. Ngor Manyang has enjoyed a great season as has the much improved Blacio Owili who is averaging and impressive 15 points and 7 rebounds. The Hawks have had to stew for 3 weeks on the disappointing performance they put up at Kilsyth where they fell by 12 points. Snowy and CJ were good but the Hawks had too few doing too much and will need an all round performance tonight. With both teams being unable to practice and basically house bound for nearly 3 weeks (and now returning straight back in to the regular season,) this may make for a scrappy contest. What wont be in question though is that the endeavour will definitely be there. Both teams will need to get used to an empty stadium but hopefully they can still put on a great show for everyone at home. The players and staff would like to thank our incredible sponsors including Noel Jones Ringwood, Fodmapped for you and The Sebel Ringwood .

NBL1 MEN-Kilsyth Cobras 88 def RingwoodHawks 76 The Ringwood Hawks battled the Kilsyth Cobras all night at Kilsyth Stadium but just could not overcome the determined Cobras in the last quarter. The Hawks threw everything at the Cobras but their newest signing Deng Deng (Illawarra Hawks) stepped up each time the Hawks looked like challenging. Adrian Tomada was also a handful for the Hawks who were too reliant on CJ Asuncion-Byrd who finished with 26 points. The loss is the 3rd in a row for Ringwood who must now get back on track against Eltham next Saturday night. For the Cobras, the win has them placed nicely in the top 4 with some tough challenges ahead.
NBL1 WOMEN-Kilsyth Cobras 66 def Ringwood Hawks 65 A late-game surge has secured Kilsyth an impressive home win over a Ringwood Hawks side that came in looking to extend its three-game winning streak. It was a game of runs, with Ringwood landing the first blow, pulling ahead 12 -4 to start the game, before the Cobras responded, scoring 14 unanswered points across the end of the first term and start of the second quarter. Kilsyth held off the Hawks for the remainder of the first half, however, after many attempts, Ringwood pushed past the hosts to close the third quarter thanks to a 12-2 run. Funda Nakkasoglu (19 points) played her usual attacking brand of basketball for the visitors as the Hawks held its lead until the final second of the contest. Down by a single point with eight seconds left, everyone assumed the Cobras would get the ball to Lauren Scherf (25 points, 16 rebounds), however, it would be Brihana Whatman, who to that point of the game had only one made basket to her name, that stepped up in the biggest moment. Whatman drove down the right side of the lane before scooping up a layup attempt that cooly rolled in to give Kilsyth what would ultimately be a gamewinning lead. With one final attempt to win the game, Nakkasoglu faltered, failing to get a shot up in time as Kilsyth celebrated in front of its home fans.
Welcome back to The Rings for round 19 action of the 2021 Big V VYCM basketball season. Today, we welcome the Hawthorn Magic. Before lockdown 5.0, your Hawks (8-11) played their final double-header of the season, splitting the weekend. First up was a loss on the road at the hands of the Keilor Thunder (70-73). We bounced back at home the next day, overcoming a relentless Blackburn Vikings (75-69). Over the weekend Ben Linkin (20pts, 4rebs & 14pts, 4rebs) was the standout. Captain Kaide Fittolani (15pts, 7rebs) re-joined the side against Blackburn after NBL1 duties the night before, and it was great to see Matthew Roberts (14pts, 5asts) regain form after most of the season on the sidelines. Hawthorn (4-15) join us today after two very narrow losses in their double-header prior to the most recent lockdown. Admirable efforts against excellent teams, the Dandenong Rangers and Eltham Wildcats, saw them go down by single digits in each. Finals may be off the table for both your Hawks and the Magic, but know that there will be nothing but best efforts from each side today. Players will be hungry to once again take the court after another disappointing season interruption. There is still plenty of pride to play for!
