HISTORICAL LOGOS OF THE RINGWOOD HAWKS
Celebrating the Clubs 40th year of Basketball
It seems like the season has only just started, yet all of a sudden we are into Round 4! Before we get stuck into the basketball it’s worth noting that it is Play4BCNA (Breast Cancer Network Australia) Round, which coincides with Mother’s Day Weekend. The NBL1 is looking to raise funds for BCNA and anything you can spare will go a long way! This week the Hawks host local rivals Knox in what should be a thrilling double-header. Despite a slow start to the season, the Ringwood women have found their rhythm and now sit 2-1. They will have a serious fight on their hands tonight, as the Raiders haven’t dropped a game yet. Aussie superstar Marianna Tolo is the player to watch for Knox. She is averaging close to 20 points per game this season and will be a handful for the Hawks on the defensive end of the floor. For Ringwood, there have been a number of players who have stepped up early in the season. Funda Nakkasoglu (18.3ppg) and Marena Whittle (14.7ppg & 11.3rpg) will be the two that Knox will need to lockdown if they want to secure a W. The start of the season hasn’t been as strong for the Ringwood men, who now sit 1-2. In a positive sign, they have been a chance in both game they have dropped so far. Knox are 2-1 thanks to some strong team play that has resulted in numerous players averaging double digit points per game. It will take a team effort for the Hawks to knock over a team that has numerous scoring options on the offensive side of the floor. Let’s get stuck into the basketball, and Happy Mother’s Day to all the mums out there!
Welcome back to the Rings for some Round 4 NBL women’s basketball action. Tonight the Ringwood Hawks take on the Knox Raiders. The Hawks had a great 44 point win last weekend against Mt Gambier on the road, their second win in a row and will be looking to continue their hot streak tonight. Also having a hot streak for the Hawks atm is guard Funda Nakkasoglu who had 26 points last weekend at 50% from the field. Marena Whittle was again a huge factor in the game with 20 points and 12 rebounds while Demi Skinner had 18 points and 9 rebounds. The Knox Raiders are coming off an amazing team win beating Albury Wodonga by 73 points which leaves them undefeated this season. Aussie Opals star Marianna Tolo had 25 points in 21 minutes last weekend and was simply unstoppable. Tessari, Rowe, Wischer and Santomaggio have all had great starts to the season and will be again in the thick of the action. If the Hawks want to keep their own win streak alive they are going to have be on their A game as the Raiders are no team to mess around with. They are clearly a good rebounding team, grabbing an impressive 55 total rebounds last weekend so the Hawks will have to make sure they are all over the boards. Ringwood are shooting over 30% from three, 40% from the field and 85% from the free throw line this season, so there is definitely some room for improvement this week in all those areas. If the girls can maintain their team chemistry and play with effort and intensity they have shown they can compete with the top teams in the league and the Raiders are definitely a highly rated outfit this year. The Hawks are looking to extend their win streak and Knox is looking to stay undefeated, so this game will be of high quality and very competitive. Enjoy the game.

Welcome to the Rings Stadium for Round 4 of the 2021 NBL1 season. Tonight we welcome the talented and in form Knox Raiders. The Raiders have had an impressive start to the season with two big wins including a 5 point result over the Albury Wodonga Bandits last week. Young gun Ben Ayre has been in great early season form and nailed 20 points last week while veteran Dylan Hare is back from injury and has been terrific at both ends of the floor. Simon Grant, Jack Roberts, Matt Meunier and Austin Shelley have all been good and always present a massive scoring threat for the Raiders. The Raiders will also have more NBL players added to the roster as they become available when the NBL season finishes. For the Hawks, last week was both disappointing and encouraging. With 3 key players unavailable, the Hawks travelled to Mount Gambier and fell agonizingly short of a massive win. Matt Fennell was back to his best nailing 28 points and Jack Barry caught fire and paced the team with 33 points. Sturt and Latham were also very good but the bounce of the ball did not fall our way when the game was up for grabs. Adversity aside, the Hawks need to control what they can control and start putting some wins together. Regardless of who is back in uniform, tonight’s game is a big one for the Hawks who have been on the wrong end of 2 close games this season and must finish stronger. Tonight is a chance to get the season record back to .500 with another couple of home games coming up in the next 2 weeks. The Raiders are a good defensive team who will play a physical and aggressive brand of basketball and the Hawks must be ready to counter that. All 3 games that the Hawks have been involved in this year have been greatly entertaining and this one will be as well. Tonight is also the NBL1 Pink Round so please dig deep as we raise money for a great cause. The players and Coaches would also like to thank Noel Jones Maroondah, The Sebel, Bendigo Bank and all our sponsors who support the Club as we tackle another exciting season of NBL1 Basketball. Enjoy the night.

MEN….Welcome to The Rings for round eight action of the 2021 Big V VYCM season, the halfway point for your Hawks (4-7). Today, we welcome the Dandenong Rangers. Last weekend, the boys split their double-header. We had a win on Saturday at home against the Diamond Valley Eagles (86-75), followed by a loss on the road to the Bulleen Boomers (81-90). In the W over the Eagles, it was Aaron Webber (27pts, 10rebs) who dominated the paint, shooting an incredible 12/14 from the field. Ben Linkin was outstanding (15pts, 4rebs, 4rebs), as was Lachie Ahale (7pts, 6rebs, 10asts), and Blake Ward (10pts, 7rebs, 3asts). Scoring punch off the bench from Jacob Klos (10pts) gave us great depth. In our second outing, Bayley Rough (14pts, 12rebs) took over in the paint. Ben Linkin (18pts, 5rebs, 5asts) and Lachie Ahale (15pts, 3rebs, 5asts) were again solid, with Aaron Klos (10pts) and Blake Ward (4pts, 12rebs) also making an impact. The game was very much within reach, but poor coverage of the 3-point line and turnovers proved costly. Dandenong join us after hosting the Melbourne Tigers last weekend. In a close one, the Rangers went down by 7 (69-76), with offensive efficiency a contributing factor. Justin Asi (22pts, 13rebs) and Harri Bowater (17pts, 9rebs) the best for Dandenong. With 11 games to go, wins are imperative to remain in the finals hunt. With some big returns from injury, illness and NBL1 duties, along with continued improvement from the group, we are primed for a great run home. With a very young and talented roster, Dandenong will do everything they can to upset those plans and chase a finals berth themselves. Women’s….Happy Mother’s Day! We welcome you today to The Rings as the VYCW Hawks return home after 2 weeks on the road, to face the Dandenong Rangers. The Hawks girls now sitting 3-6, return home after a successful trip to Bendigo in which the team obtained their first road win of the season in emphatic fashion. A strong team defence display along with wide spread contribution saw the team run away with a 69-55 win. Zoe Servinis had yet another strong outing with 12pts, 16reb, 3stl, 4blk, while Katrina Warton had a successful return to the court after sitting the first 8 games out due to injury, posting 10pts on 4-6 shooting and 2ast in limited minutes. The girls have had a strong few weeks at training, showing positive signs of Improvement in some key areas of our game. We are looking forward to having this translate to a strong on court performance this week and weeks to come.

Back on the 13th July, 1992, the Ringwood Lady Hawks had a one point win over the Sandringham Sabres in a low scoring game 55 to 56, The Lady Hawks spread the scoring around with Sharon Kraehenbuehl nailing 10 points, along with Narelle McGill who also had 10. Kirsten Hamilton had 4 points and 11 rebounds while the leading scorer was Tricia Canny with 15. Interesting name on the box score was Kristy Snowball who had 5 points at 100% from the field. Then nearly a year later on 5th June, 1993, the Hawks Men ran over the top of the Knox Raiders 121 to 111 at Aquinas College. Jason Butterfield was on fire for the Hawks with a game high 30 points while Phil Walsh, Alan Nixon and Nigel Barnes all scored in the low 20’s. Barnes also recorded an incredible 17 assists. Don’t forget that the games were 48 mins back in this day.
