HISTORICAL LOGOS OF THE RINGWOOD HAWKS
Celebrating the Clubs 40th year of Basketball
Ringwood Hawks home basketball is back, but not at the usual location. After a break due to Covid restrictions we take to Norwood, as both the men and women look to push towards a finals birth. Last weekend both teams struggled to get back into the swing of things, going down to the Raiders. Their attention now turns to the Tigers as they look to bounce back. The Melbourne women are led by all-round sporting star Monique Conti. She’s averaging 22.6 points and over five assists per game this season and will be high on the agenda of Tim Mottin’s defence. However, it’s not just the Conti show for the Tigers, they have a number of other weapons including Zitina Aokuso and the Brancatisanos. The Hawks will be looking to their star players in Funda Nakkasoglu and Marena Whittle to lead the charge. The Ringwood Hawks men have a big chance to score a W on Wednesday night against a Melbourne team who has struggled to find rhythm this season. The Tigers currently sit 1-9 and are desperate for some form. Felix von Hofe has been their go to player so far, averaging just under 20 points per game. The Hawks are over .500 at the moment but only just at 4-3. The likes of Adrien Sturt and CJ Asuncion-Byrd will be eager to perform as the look to improve on that record. Ringwood basketball is back, let’s get stuck in!
Welcome to NBL1 Women’s Basketball and tonight the Hawks are hosting the talented Melbourne Tigers. It was great to have the return of Basketball last week after the Covid shutdown but it was not a great night for the girls against Knox. The Hawks had their worst loss of the season did not play with the passion that we have seen for most of the season prior. Funda Nakkasoglu was the teams best player but we simply had too many players who were not at their best. We need to bring a better effort level tonight. The Tigers also did not have a great game against the Ballarat Rush on Sunday falling by 12 points but they have had a great season so far winning 6 of their first 10 games and have a very talented roster. Developing WNBL player Zitina Aokuso is the inside anchor of this team and is consistently putting up big numbers in points and rebounds. Mon Conti is back from ALFW duties and as always has adapted quickly and has put up some big numbers as well. Geraldine McCorkell and the Bracatisano sisters complete a starting 5 that rivals any in the League. Both teams tonight are very well matched and I think a close contest is to be expected. The Hawks will need to be better at the defensive end of the court that they were last week while the Tigers will be hoping to shoot the ball at a better clip than the 35% they produced against the Rush. On behalf of the players, we would like to thanks our wonderful sponsors and Club volunteers who help get the girls on the court week after week. Its great to be playing here in a midweek game and thanks to everyone who have done such a great job in setting up. Enjoy the game and Go Hawks.

Welcome to Norwood Stadium, its an exciting opportunity to bring NBL1 basketball to you on a Wednesday night in the School holidays in this beautiful facility. Tonight we face the Melbourne Tigers. Last Saturday night was not a great night for the Hawks who really did not play well at the State Basketball Centre against Knox. The Raiders jumped the Hawks from the tip off and it was an early lead that we were unable to claw back. Too much was left on the shoulders of Adrien Sturt who was superb nailing 36 points but he did not have enough support. The Hawks defensive effort was poor and will be something that the guys will have more of a focus on this week. CJ Asuncion-Byrd and Ricardo Martin worked hard but it was the Hawks worst loss of the season. This week sees the Hawks have a unique challenge presented to them and something that NBL1 has never seen before. Over this 8 day period, the Hawks will have no fewer than 4 games and after Saturdays loss, tonight’s game is a big one and the Tigers are a tough team. On Sunday, the Tigers pushed a very good Ballarat Miners team all the way but fell late in the game. Former NBL player and current NBL commentator (and Sportsbets main man) Felix Von Hofe was on fire nailing 32 points including a red hot 8 from 16 from the 3 point line. He had some great support from the improving Keenan Willie (18 points) and Anthony Karabatsos who had a great all round game with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. The Tigers are again coached by former NBL player Brad Pineau who is in his second season with the Tigers. At this point in the season the Hawks currently have a 4 win and 3 loss record while the Tigers have one win and 9 losses but records count for little after the Covid break as you may have noticed from last weekends first games back. Tonight’s game is the only NBL/NBL1 game in Australia and is the Game of the Week so it will be a great spectacle and hopefully well watched across the Country on the Live Stream on the NBL app. We would like to thank all our sponsors including Noel Jones Ringwood, The Sebel Ringwood Melbourne, Genesis Fitness, Bendigo Bank Ringwood just to name a few. Enjoy tonight’s game and don’t forget we are back here on Friday night to face a massive local rivalry challenge from the Kilsyth Cobras.

NBL1 Men Knox Raiders 103 def Ringwood Hawks 80 The Knox Raiders have put a stop to its three-game skid, beating the Ringwood Hawks at home. The first quarter was played at a blistering pace, with each side possessing the lead before Knox ended the term on a 12-0 run. The Raiders would lead by as many as 17-point in the second term before Ringwood put together a run of its own, outsourcing the home side 13-3 to make it a one-possession game going into the main break. Knox were able to hold onto its lead across the third quarter despite the best efforts of Ringwood guard Aiden Sturt, who finished the contest with a game high 36 points. Despite Sturt’s heroics, the Raiders entered the final term with a seven-point lead before blowing the Hawks away in the final term. Led by Bul Kuol (25 points), Knox outscored the Hawks 28-15 in the final 10 minutes to secure the victory.
NBL1 Women Knox Raiders 96 def Ringwood Hawks 58 The Knox Raiders have put together a statement victory, blowing out the Ringwood Hawks at home. The Raiders held the advantage during a tight first quarter, as Ringwood pushed hard to snatch the lead. It was more of the same in the second term, as it seemed that no matter how hard the Hawks pushed, Knox remained one step, and more importantly, multiple baskets, ahead. It was in the second half that things fully fell apart for Ringwood, as poor shooting and costly turnovers made things easy for Knox. The Raiders outscored the visitors 49-23 across the final 20 minutes of action, as Klara Wisher (22 points, 10 rebounds, six assists) and Leah Santomaggio (20 points) led the way. The 38-point win is Knox’s sixth in its first seven games.
NBL1 PRESS RELEASE NBL1 is pleased to announce Foot Locker, the world’s leading retailer of sneaker and basketball culture, has become a League Partner. Foot Locker will also reward each Conference’s Men’s and Women’s MVP with a $750 voucher while the NBL1 Finals Men’s and Women’s MVP will receive a $1500 voucher. Foot Locker’s partnership will support the on-going growth of NBL1 in each state. NBL1 Chief Commercial Officer Brad Joyner said: “We are thrilled to announce this exciting new partnership with Foot Locker. “Foot Locker has had a long association with basketball as one of the world’s leading retailers of basketball shoes and apparel. Foot Locker’s brand and values align with the NBL1 and we look forward to this being the beginning of a long and successful partnership. “This agreement is also a win for all NBL1 players whose efforts will now be rewarded with Foot Locker vouchers. The players are the stars of the show in NBL1 and we are excited to partner with a company that will reward our athletes for their performances.”
When we lost our 2020 season of Basketball, it was a difficult time for everyone who loves to play or watch Basketball. As a way of paying tribute to our 41 VJBL Hawks teams and 380 players, the Hawks NBL1 Men and Women’s teams are wearing the surnames of each family on our True To Ringwood green jersey tonight. The uniform is based on the design of the first ever Hawks uniform that was worn in the late 80’s and 90’s. This jersey has been sent out as a thank you to all those Hawks families who donated their fees back to the Club last year. Tonight we will be giving some more of these beautiful jerseys away to kids.
This week we go back to the 29th of June in 2014 for a Men’s and Women’s Double Header when the Ringwood Hawks battled the Melbourne Tigers at the Rings. It was a chilly afternoon outside but inside the Rings Stadium it was the Hawks Women who were on fire from the get go. Led by the super talented Amber Hegge (23 points) and her fellow import Michelle Kurowski (21 points), the ladies comfortable handled the Tigers 83 to 69. Tara Blair and Emma Beddome were also big contributors The hot shooting did not cool off for the Hawks for the Men’s game thanks to a 3 point shooting display that is rarely seen, The Hawks hit 75% from deep including 6 from 6 for import Marcus Ruh. Ruh finished the game with 30 points but had plenty of help for Luke Egan (20 points), Trent Zomer (19 points), Bryan Dougher (15 points) and Trevor Latham who nailed 12 points to go with 7 rebounds. The Hawks easily handled the Tigers a 105 to 53 and eventually went on to win the Championship beating the Corio Bay Stingrays.
