HISTORICAL LOGOS
The one and only Matt Hickey has headed to London, England for a much well deserved holiday, yeah right c’mon, Hickey has not worked a day in his life!!!! But enjoy it Hick and we will see you in a month. In the meantime we will welcome Russell Lee and Scott Grimster and a few other in to the commentary booth to make sure you do not miss a minute of action if you are watching at home. The Hawks have spent the last few weeks on the road. First it was a trip to Tasmania where both teams won in Hobart but lost to Launceston/NW Tasmania the following night. Both teams were not far off winning both games but headed home feeling like they let one slip. The Men’s comeback against Hobart was simply amazing, down 24 points in the 3rd quarter, the guys dug very deep for a 4 point win. Would love a copy of the half time speech that the Hawks Coaches gave to get that kind of second half effort. Last week at Diamond Valley the Hawks women demolished the Eagles thanks to a first half blitz and they are looking really good at the moment. The Men battled well but Sydney Kings star DJ Vasiljevic was the difference with his impressive 31 point performance. Today the old local rivalry re-ignites as the Eltham Wildcats and the Hawks have had some very memorable battles over many many years. Who could forget the 2018 Big V Grand Final that was must see Basketball. Both Clubs have a different looking rosters since the Big V days so these 2 games today will be plenty of fun.
Welcome to The Rings for round 7 of the NBL1 South season as the Hawks play host to the Eltham Wildcats. The Wildcats are 2-5 on the season so far and sit 15th on the NBL1 South Women’s ladder after 6 rounds. The Wildcats come into this game having won last time out against the Diamond Valley Eagles (82-75) and they will be looking to get another win tonight against the Hawks. The Wildcats are led by stars Hailey Leidel who is currently averaging 20 ppg, 5 rpg, 4 apg and 1 spg and Korinne Campbell who is averaging 14 ppg, 11 rpg, 2 apg and 1 spg. Last week, the Hawks won on the road also against the Diamond Valley Eagles. A 47point lead at three-quarter time (33-80) was enough to see the Hawks victorious (54-87), in a great team display. The Hawks were led by Marena Whittle who had 17 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 6 steals and 1 block and Digna Strautmane who had 16 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 5 steals and 3 blocks and Marta Hermida who had 18 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals and Jacqui Trotto who had 16 points, 6 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 block. Today’s game will be a big one, we hope you enjoy the night.
Welcome to the Rings for todays game against the Eltham Wildcats, and it is good to be finally home after we have played 4 away games in a row including a tough game last night in Bendigo. The Eltham Wildcats have had a tough start to the season losing their first seven games but to their credit they have been close in most of the games. They have talent across the court with Mitchell Dance and Sam Short leading the way with great support from Owen Foxwell and the athletic Josh Sykes. Sam Whelan is also have a good year firing away from deep. Former Mount Gambier star Craig Stratford is in his first season as Head Coach of the Wildcats. The Hawks have been up and down over the last few weeks. The comeback victory at Hobart was sensational but our performances against NW Tasmania and Diamond Valley were disappointing. Tim Guers has been a constant contributor this season as has Kyle Daggett and Shaun Clarke. The Hawks need a little more consistency and they can certainly be a team capably of beating anyone. The new face we hope you see in uniform (pending clearances) is a much welcome addition in Emmett Naar. Emmett recently finished his NBL season with the Illawarra Hawks and is an outstanding person and player. Welcome to the Hawks Emmett. Thanks to all our volunteers and sponsors, your support is much appreciated.

*It did not take long for DV Eagles star DJ Vasiljevic to come in to NBL1 South and have an impact. The Sydney Kings star nailed 31 points against the Hawks last Sunday and that included a few 30 footers with a Hawks hand in his face.
*Another who has had an immediate impact with big numbers is Alice Kunek at Nunawading. The 3x3 National team star nailed another 27 last week and has the Spectres rolling. *Do you remember Mike McCahey? the former Hawks import who helped the Hawks win a championship in 2017. Mike and his girlfriend Amy tied the knot last week in New York. Congrats guys. Mike is now a policeman just like his Father and Grand Father. *Also last week, another Hawks import great played his last game. Jacob Gibson has just finished his season in Portugal and has decided that it is time to move on with the next part of his life and has officially hung up the Nike’s. Good luck from your Hawks family Gibbo. *A huge welcome to Emmett Naar who has joined the Hawks for the rest of the NBL1 season. Emmett had an incredible College career at Saint Marys and is the school assists record holder (passing Delly’s record). Last season he played with the Illawarra Hawks team that went to the NBL semi finals. He also played in the Australian Under 19 team.

Welcome to The Rings for the first game of our VYCW Ringwood Hawks’ weekend, as we hit the road to face Bendigo tomorrow. Tonight we face the Dandenong Rangers, a team that we had a tough encounter with last match up, with the game going down to the final buzzer. Our game a fortnight ago against the undefeated Nunawading was admirable. Playing with a host of injuries, and with girls on NBL1 duties, we saw some great signs out of some of our younger core. Paige Price (15pts, 14reb, 4ast) gave us some consistent scoring while Sienna Koh (8pts, 5ast, 2stl) was impressive. Although going down with a final score of 55-70, we were impressed with the consistent play for 4 quarters, where we played hard and kept a high quality team on their toes all game. Last weekend, we traveled down the road to Knox to face a Raiders side that we had a heart stopper against last time. Unfortunately, we were unable to get the job done, going down 53-87 in a tough defence night for the girls. The ever reliable Erin Hynson (7pts, 6reb, 2ast) was solid, while Jenna Anderson (5pts, 4reb, 1ast) was impressive. We look forward to a close match up tonight, before hitting the road for a long trip tomorrow! Thank you for your support and we hope you enjoy the game!
Your Hawks (8-7) limp into Round 11 after a shattering loss last weekend against the Knox Raiders. On the road, undermanned, the boys competed throughout, with the lead see-sawing for the duration. Up by 2 with under 5 seconds to go, Knox forced overtime with a putback on the buzzer. The Raiders made shots down stretch and came away with a W (87-80). Taking the lead were Sebastien Lees (20pts, 7rebs, 3asts), Harry Sealey (27pts, 5rebs) and Bayley Rough (16pts, 12rebs, 3stls). Upon reflection for the group, there were a number of stat categories that impacted the result. Despite the disappointment, we proved yet again, we can compete with the best. Knox currently sit atop of the Terrill pool (12-3), whilst we are second in Watson. Tonight, we seek redemption against Watson pool, top-placed Melbourne Tigers (9-5). The last time we met at MSAC, the Tigers got the better of us by 4-points. Melbourne enter this round after a nowwor loss on the road to Ballarat last weekend (79-73).
Dangerous for the Tigers are Mason Gaze (18.4ppg, 7.6rpg, 3.8apg, 2.1spg) and Lachlan Chinnock (18.2ppg, 4.6rpg, 2.9apg). Shutting down both Gaze and Chinnock down, making others accountable will be key for us. Both Melbourne and your Hawks have clashes with NBL1 games tonight, meaning that both squads could be down players normally taking part. The squad that has guys willing to step up will come away with the win tonight.
