HISTORICAL LOGOS

Welcome everyone, we are back again for School Holiday hoops. Tonight the Hawks welcome the powerful Waverley Falcons to Norwood for a Friday night blockbuster. We are now on the home stretch to the NBL1 playoffs and both Hawks Men’s and Women’s teams are in the hunt for a spot but there is much work still to do over the next 5 or so weeks. The Falcons will be a stern test for both teams tonight. There is so much elite talent on court tonight in both games. The Waverley Falcons have 2 talented teams and are also still well and truly in the playoff hunt for both men and women. They are a Club with much history going all the way back to the CVIBL days to the VBL , Big V and now NBL1. Did you know that Hawks Coach Ken Harrington was Captain of the Falcons in the early 1990’s and the Club has had plenty of great players come through their doors. Names like Ivan Platenik, Sedale Threatt jr, Matt Burston, John Gilliland, Tom Boyle, Matt Hodgson and on to modern day stars like Carley Ernst, Bec Cole. Bennie Lewis and Kernich-Drew who we will see tonight. It is a special night as we raise awareness and money for DIPG and we honour a great family of our Club who lost a special little girl. Tonight’s games are simply called Lucy’s Games and the players will have a splash of Aqua on them tonight., Lucy;s favourite colour. Please get behind the cause and donate a few bucks (or more) and make a difference. We hope you are here at the game catching all the action live but if you are stuck at home, jump on the live stream and along with Coach K, (Kevin Nolan), I will bring you all the action of 2 great games, some in game interviews and plenty of stories and fun. Enjoy the games.

Welcome back to Norwood for our second game of round 10 of the NBL1 South season as the Hawks play host to the Waverley Falcons. The Falcons are an excellent team and are sitting on the fringes of the top 8 at this stage of the season but look like a playoff team. They come into tonight’s game in good form recent form and they will be looking to get another win tonight against the Hawks. The Falcons are led by stars Rebecca Cole who is currently averaging 21.12 ppg, 4.75 rpg, 4.50 apg and 1.12 spg and Carley Ernst who is averaging 14.62 ppg, 7 rpg, 3.25 apg and 1.25 bpg. Both these players are capable of big scoring nights but they have plenty of support from Orla O’Reilly, Meg Crupi and Renae Mokrzycki.

The Hawks come into this game also in pretty good form except for a loss at Ballarat last Saturday night which was very close. The Hawks have been led by Marena Whittle who is averaging 20 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals per game, Digna Strautmane who is averaging 15 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 3 blocks per game and Marta Hermida who is averaging 14 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals per game. Toni Farnworth is also having a good season and providing that veteran leadership that every good team needs. Young guns Zoe Jenkins and Bella Niven-Brown will again be asked to provide their usual impact off the bench which has been a great boost all season long. Tonight’s game will be a big one as we celebrate Lucy’s Game. We hope to raise funds and awareness of this rare disease whilst also showing our support with a splash of aqua - Lucy’s favourite colour - tonight. Thank you for your support, please donate if you can and I hope you enjoy tonight’s action. GO HAWKS! PLEASE SCAN HERE AND DONATE TO A GREAT CAUSE

The Ringwood Hawks tonight are very proud to support Lucy ‘s Legacy. Here is Lucy’s story and how we can all help. By the start of February, Lucy was admitted to hospital where she spent her last 5 weeks there fighting for her life.

DIPG is rare with only 20 children diagnosed per year in Australia (1-2 in Victoria). The tumour sits at the base of the brain stem and attacks the vital parts of the brain eventually shutting everything down. Lucy lost her ability to walk, talk, eat, swallow and couldn't even hold her head up. She was trapped in a body that wasn't working. We would ask her questions and she would blink to tell us yes or no. That was her only form of communication. This form of cancer has a 0% chance of survival and is the worst form of any cancer, particularly childhood cancer. Unfortunately because this is such a rare cancer, there still isn't enough research into finding better treatment that will give children and families more time together with a fighting chance of survival and hopefully in the future a cure. RUN DIPG, is a charity dedicated to improving outcomes for patients and their families impacted by the deadliest form of childhood cancer – the brainstem cancer, diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) also known as diffuse midline glioma (DMG). It is our mission to raise awareness of this disease, and to generate funding to support the advancement of DIPG/DMG research.

With no treatment options currently available, except palliative radiotherapy, we advocate for the timely and innovative development of anti-DIPG/DMG therapies, and, improvement to current standard-of-care management. Please donate to Run DIPG and lets help find a cure via the Qr code below.

Welcome back the Norwood stadium for another night of NBL1 Basketball. Tonight is Lucy’;s game and it’s a big one with the visiting Waverley Falcons. As far as talent is concerned, the Falcons would have to be regarded as one of the favourites to be there when the whips are cracking come finals time. There are led by veteran Bennie Lewis who has been the constant on this team for many years and is reliable at both ends of the court. He has scoring punch all around him though with NBL player Dexter Kernich-Drew and another veteran star in Simon Conn. Another former NBL player Daniel Dillon is having a great season and Jake Heath provides the Falcons with another scoring option. Durrell McDonald is setting the table for this team with his speed and quickness while yet another NBL player Tristan Forsyth will anchor the post. Hawks fans from back in the Big V days will also remember Michael Harper who is a tough defender and great role player for his team. The Falcons are situated around the top 4 and will be keen to take care of the Hawks tonight and give themselves some breathing room. The Hawks have really had an up and down season so far but seem to be improving since the arrival of Emmett Naar from the Illawarra Hawks. Naar has settled in well and will provide the Hawks with a quality player and great support for Tim Guers who has been outstanding this season. Kyle Daggett is a consistent inside outside force for the Hawks and Shaun Clarke is having a great season as a player and team leader. Matt Snow, Matt Fennell and Trevor Latham have all played significant roles while Jack Roberts and Jack Barry are providing plenty at both ends. Matt Roberts has showed his scoring ability in recent games and that kind of impact would be very welcome tonight. Being that its Lucy’s game tonight, can I encourage you all to dig deep and make a donation to Run DIPG. It is a disease that tends to fall under the radar but effects far too many kids, like it did Lucy. I would like to welcome Lucy’s Parents Brian and Nicole and their 2 daughters tonight and we hope you can sit back and enjoy a great night of entertainment. Thanks to all the volunteers, sponsors, tonight’s VJBL team and all our supporters for all of what you do to help get us on the court. We hope you enjoy the game.
