Tim Mottin Championship Women Welcome to the “Rings” for our special NBA themed game which we hope will be a lot of fun. Tonight will be a massive on court challenge for the Champ Women as the top placed Sunbury Jets come calling. The Jets have been on fire since making the step to the top level and have a very deep and talented roster. Orla O’Reilly, Josephine Stockill, Karen Duever and Monique Stevens are all having great seasons and keep the Jets offense in overdrive. Chelsea Burns and Kayla Theodore provide great support and they are well led by New Zealand and former WNBL Coach Kennedy Kereama. For the Hawks it has been an up and down season but we are still in the hunt for a spot in the play-offs with quite a few other teams who are improving. Tonight we will again need big games from Tori Jarosz, Emma Beddome and Sydney Coffey. Shelley Mottin has been in good form off the bench and Dani Bone has been consistent for us at both ends of the court. We will need to be at our defensive best right from tip off tonight. Sunbury have just lost one game from their 12 so far, which was 2 weeks ago to Hume City. They will be hungry to get back on the winning list. The Players and Coaching staff of the Hawks would like to thank the sponsors and supporters for being on board with the team for 2017. Enjoy the game.

Tonight the guys from Genesis Fitness Club in Ringwood will be handing out free day passes to visit their gym. If you want to look great for Summer then now is the time to get down to Genesis and make it happen. Thanks to Mark, Oscar and the crew at Genesis for their ongoing support of the Ringwood Hawks

To make tonight’s NBA themed game a little bit more special, the Championship Men’s team have gotten together and designed a very special uniform. It is being called the “retro” uniform but exactly what is it and what’s it about you may ask. The first thing that catches your eye is the colour. This lighter green was a colour that was popular in the mid-seventies in the NBA worn by the Atlanta Hawks. The bold stripes down the uniform and across the shorts are similar to what the Baltimore Bullets wore back in 1969. Finally, the big logo on the side of the shorts is from the Atlanta Hawks uniforms that they wore proudly in the late 80’s, they called it the pac-man logo for those old enough to remember the computer game. One lucky person will win one of these jerseys tonight. It is a #8 Snow jersey and will be signed by the great man. Good Luck. Thanks to My Maker Sports for the great work on the retro uniforms. Remember if your team needs a new look, go to www.mymaker.com. My Maker have just made available a range of Hawks Player jerseys in kids sizes. Jump on line and get yourself a McCahey, Gibson, Snowy, Clarke or Fennell in either Green, Black or White. Just $40.00

4th Congrats to Mark Beckett and the 18/1 Boys for a great performance

Tonight is going to be a great night of Basketball. Sunbury and McKinnon are both very exciting teams to watch and the Hawks need to protect their home court advantage. We hope you are wearing some NBA gear tonight. If you are, you have a chance to win some great prizes including a one off Matt Snowball jersey in the special Retro design that the men are wearing tonight. Don’t forget our main man Herbie the Hawk will be around handing out Mars Bars, Snickers, Bounty’s and Twix Bars. We are also hosting the VJBL Coaches tonight in the function room so we have the bar stocked and ready to go if you are thirsty with a nice range of drinks to choose from.

Have a great night and Go Hawks.

Ken Harrington Championship Men Welcome to the “Rings” Stadium for Round 12 of Big V Basketball. Tonight we welcome the McKinnon Cougars who currently sit in 7th spot with 6 wins from 12 games. The Cougars are a very dangerous team and nobody knows that more than the Hawks who fell to the Cougars earlier this season. Dillon Stith has been in terrific form all season and gets plenty of support from the ever reliable Ivan Platenik, import Dondray Walker and the evergreen Axel Dench. The Cougars have also welcomed back Max Cody from College and have plenty of depth with Maybank, Neilson, Gallatly, Mueller and Benji Tamir who was in sparkling form before the bye weekend. As last week was the Queen’s Birthday weekend, the Big V was in recess. The last time the Hawks took the floor was at Werribee 13 days ago and they were in good form. The Hawks won that game by 41 points in a very team orientated performance. Mike McCahey was probably the standout with 23 points whilst doing the job defensively on the Devils star Jeremy Smith. The Hawks will not only have a big task tonight against the Cougars but also will be heading to Eltham tomorrow for another difficult game against the Eltham Wildcats. The Wildcats will have to wait though as Ringwood will be focussed on tonight’s game and must do a better job defending the likes of Platenik, Stith and Co than they did about 8 weeks ago at McKinnon. We are also having a bit of fun tonight with our NBA themed game and you will see our guys in a special uniform that they helped design. It is based on some NBA uniforms from the past. They look bright and very very different but I think they did a great job. The Players and Coaching staff of the Hawks would like to thank the sponsors and supporters for being on board with the team for 2017.

Rob Dielemans Youth Championship Women Welcome to the “Rings” for what will be the girl’s second game for the weekend. It will be a very tough game today as we welcome the Ballarat Rush who are a very dangerous and talented team. Yesterday the girls travelled to Bendigo and if we have managed to avoid injuries then we should be in good shape to face the Rush. Ballarat have a strong all round team led by Taylah Wynne (14 ppg and 9rpg), Georgia Amoore (14 ppg and 4 rpg), Claire Blower (10 ppg and 10 rpg) and Claire Constable (9 ppg and 5 rpg). There is no doubt we will need to be solid around the basket and keep Laura Taylor (109 rebounds on the season) and Blower off the boards. This is going to be a season defining weekend of Basketball for our team. If we can manage to win both games then we will go a long way to securing ourselves a spot in the play offs. It is a big ask though and the girls will just be focussing on the scouting report and playing as a team. The Players and Coaching staff of the Hawks would like to thank the sponsors and supporters for being on board with the team for 2017. Enjoy the game.

Russell Lee Youth Championship Men Welcome to The Rings for this Round 12 clash between your VYCM Ringwood Hawks and the McKinnon Cougars. This is the second game of a double-header weekend for the Hawks, having taken on the Sabres last night in Sandringham. It continues to be a tough run for the Hawks (5-8), who succumbed to the Dandenong Rangers before the long weekend (46-63). Shooting woes hit an all-time low, with no player climbing to double figures and a total field goal percentage of just 20. Adding salt to the wound, Matt Hickey (6pts, 7rebs) went down with an ankle injury that will no doubt sideline him through to next weekend. Performances from rookies Sebastien Lees (8pts, 5stls, 2asts), Matt Roberts (8pts, 3asts, 2rebs, 2stls) and Hudson Kuhnell (5pts, 5rebs) were the silver lining of the game. Veterans James Perrin (8pts, 6rebs) and Jonathan Truman (3pts, 8rebs, 5blks) were also solid. The Cougars (7-7) had a great win against the Knox Raiders before the break (71-65). In a balanced team performance, Nicholas Laycock (16pts, 11rebs), Joel Becker (13pts, 7rebs, 3stls) and Matthew Crees (13pts, 3rebs) were excellent. The last time we met, the Cougars took full advantage and gained a W. It is time for the Hawks boys to settle the score. A chance at finals is almost out of reach, so expect everything to be put on the line in this one. Good luck to both teams. The VYCM would like to thank the referees, score bench officials, committee, and supporters for their contributions.
