THE COLD HARD METAL THE WORLD IS WORSE THAN YOU KNOW VALUE YOUR SAFETY WHILE YOU HAVE IT
THE COLD HARD METAL BY Reaky Rumrum
The last diary entry of MR Mather Wednesday 2:43 pm
The sound of heavy footsteps hitting cold, hard metal echoes throughout the facility. The sound pierced the heavy silence which I had grown so accustom to. I could almost locate the movement, it was as clear as day. I shiver when I look around my all too familiar surroundings I don’t know how long it had been since I had wrote in my diary last, the grey sheen walls, were on all sides of me on one side I had a small single bed with blank white Manchester. The dreary colour palette was maddening. The footsteps slowly moved towards the solid steel door which had kept me hostage for so very long. The footsteps reached the outside of my door, and stood still in front of it. I froze and out of sheer instinct I didn’t move a muscle. I heard a deep voice bellow “Mr. Mather, I trust you have become acquainted with your surroundings," I stood as still as I possibly could not wanting to move. My eyes trained to the door with a passion. “Well I hope you have as your work starts today,” The voice continued. Three loud beeps rang out from the door way, for no more than a moment, Silence. Then I heard a loud creaking sound and the door slowly shook, and then slowly lifted up to reveal the figure. This may be the last time I can write in my diary,”
The figure outside my cell door was thick framed, tall and dressed in all black aside from two steel gauntlets. His gaze was harsh and cold, it was disturbing. I looked at him dumbfounded, unable to voice my fear. "This way… please," the man echoed, and without another word he turned and marched to the left of my cell door Taking long deliberate strides. Not knowing what to do, I felt a need to follow this man. So against my better will… I followed. We passed through the dimly lit corridors with windows looking in on creatures, some creatures were human some were, something else.
Finally slowed and stopped in front of a door way. visually, it looked no different to all the others, but the vibe I was receiving, was just so horribly different, it felt, violent and brutal. “Enter," said the man, with a stern but otherwise emotionless voice. I stepped towards the door. It snapped open and I entered. The door shut behind me with a loud slam and darkness enveloped the room. I looked around desperately trying to adjust my eyes to the darkness, arms raised out in front of me feeling around for… anything. I heard an ear piercing, animalistic roar rippled through the silence, and I saw two blood red eyes shifting slowly towards me. I immediately took a step back as the pair of eyes advanced towards me. Suddenly the lights flashed on, and I set my eyes upon my attacker… I wished I hadn't.
It was tall, pale, skinning and its claws were long and looked like they could cleave me in two with no effort. Fear coursed through me as I looked at it. Suddenly it leaped at me at blinding speeds, I side stepped and lashed out at it with my left foot, as my foot connected with the creature I felt its bony arm, I knocked it on the floor but within moments, it was back and swung its razor claws at me I dodged at the last moment but I didn’t manage to escape the tackle which followed it, before I could orientate myself I felt my body slam against the floor with the creature on top of me , I started trying to get to my feet, luckily, since the creature was merely skin and bones, the creature was very light and I had no doubt that I could lift myself up, the only issue being those claws. As if to prove my point I felt dagger like claws rake down my arm, instantly drawing blood, I cried out and moved faster, got to my knees then ripped the creature off and then threw it away. It landed on its feet, then bared its teeth to reveal sets and sets of needle like fangs. It charged at me again, blurring out of reality and I tried to dodge in vain and it leapt up on me and I felt those needle like fangs penetrate my neck, and tear out my jugular, blood pooled at the floor, I gagged and staggered and fell over, dizzy and nauseous. Suddenly a figure in all black save for some shiny steel gauntlets walked in, it looked familiar but in my confused state I just could not recognise from where. It walked over the creature looked at the warden wearily considering weather this black clad man was a threat, obviously he was as it leapt up at him and with one fluid motion the warden drew a long black rod, he pressed a button and electricity crackled off of it and he swiped just as the creature got in range, I heard a loud crack and a zap as the creature flew backwards into a wall and didn’t get up. I felt those smooth steel gauntlets pick me up and carry me away as I lost consciousness.
The warden carried Mr Mather away from the test chamber, Mr Mather had failed the test. The goal of the test was to train humans to work as the police, and where all forced to battle monstrous creatures to succeed. Test subjects like Mr Mather who had failed where… Executed. Solemnly the warden took Mr Mather to the incineration room, opened the heavy steel lid and threw him in. Regret and guilt flooded threw him. Of course the robot overseers forced humans to do this role, they had no concept of morality. His hand reached towards the switch to activate the furnace. He hesitated, he breathed deeply, knowing all too well he was about to take an equally important human life. He exhaled and flicked the switch. He heard the customary crackles of flame immediately afterwards. He looked away and walked slowly down the long corridor, until the crackle of flame was replaced with the sound of heavy footsteps hitting the cold, hard metal.
