The faces of Australia’s Electric Future.
As Australia accelerates towards an electric future, the Sydney International EV Autoshow is bringing together the people shaping this transformative journey. Here, innovators, policymakers, and enthusiasts gather to address the most pressing topics in EV ownership and technology, offering a front-row seat to the nation’s all-electric ambitions. The live stage program is packed with essential insights, where thought leaders will unpack everything from charging infrastructure to EV myths, sustainability, and cutting-edge technologies.
Here’s a preview of five of the essential topics we’ll cover at the show, with a spotlight on the sessions that can help answer your most burning questions.
Charging: Powering Up for a New Era
One of the most critical elements of EV ownership is understanding the charging landscape. At this year’s Autoshow, we’ll be diving into practical advice on both home and public charging options, as well as exploring the development of Australia’s charging network. Carola Jonas, CEO and Founder of Everty PTY LTD, will share her expertise on managing charging infrastructure for commercial buildings and fleets, covering scalable solutions to meet the demands of larger setups. Meanwhile, Geoffrey Rutledge from the ACT Government will discuss the rollout of public charging stations, user experiences, and key lessons learned in the “0-200 – Charging Ahead” session. And if you’re curious about the technical side, industry experts Neerav Bhatt, Amelia Phillips, Riz Akhtar, and Sam Evans will offer a deep dive into battery and charging technologies, breaking down the pros and cons of AC and DC methods and addressing common concerns about battery life and charging times.
Demystification: Uncovering the Truth Behind EV Myths
Despite the rapid growth of EVs, misconceptions still linger, often fueled by outdated or sensationalized information. This year’s program will shine a light on the realities of EV safety and performance. Emma Sutcliffe, director of EV Firesafe, will lead a session debunking the myth that EVs are prone to catching fire. She’ll explain the science of “thermal runaway” in lithium-ion batteries, including why such events are rare and how drivers can safely manage their EVs. Our EV Myth Busting panel will tackle some of the most common myths head-on, showing why EVs are not only safe but essential to a sustainable future.
Sustainability: Driving a Greener Tomorrow
The shift to electric vehicles is about more than just cleaner transportation - it’s about advancing a greener, healthier world. EVs reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality, which has tangible benefits for urban spaces and public health. In the “Powering the Green Revolution” session, a panel of experts will examine how EVs contribute to a sustainable future, touching on reduced emissions, urban planning impacts, and the role of renewable energy in charging. For those curious about two-wheeled options, Gino Casha from Segway-Ninebot will discuss how electric motorbikes can address urban congestion and pollution challenges, offering a practical, eco-friendly alternative for city commuters.
Cutting-Edge Technology: A Glimpse into the Future of EV Innovation
EVs are more than just a replacement for combustion engines; they represent a new era of technology that’s reshaping transportation as we know it. On the FutureDrive Live Stage, we’ll explore the most exciting advancements in EV tech. In “Accelerating the Future,” industry pioneers will discuss breakthroughs in battery technology, autonomous driving, and sustainable infrastructure. For a closer look at one of the world’s most iconic EV brands, members of the Tesla Owners Club of Australia will give insights on what it’s like to own and drive a Tesla, from daily maintenance to software updates. And for those interested in international perspectives, Sam Evans (@electricviking) will host a session on the “fastest disruption in history,” detailing how EV technology from Asian markets is shaping the future of electric mobility in Australia.
Range: Expanding the Boundaries of EV Travel
Range anxiety remains one of the key concerns for new and prospective EV drivers, and our sessions will focus on dispelling this worry with real-world experiences and practical advice. In “EV Road-Trips,” seasoned EV drivers will share firsthand accounts of long-distance journeys across Australia, offering tips on charging strategies, route planning, and managing range anxiety. These insights will help attendees feel confident in taking their EVs further, knowing that infrastructure is evolving to support longer drives, whether for work, adventure, or everyday commuting.

FutureDrive: Driving for a Cleaner Future.
Today more than ever, there’s a need to explore renewable, electric transportation for a cleaner, more sustainable future as climate change impacts become increasingly evident.
At Future Drive, our support for electric vehicles goes beyond their sleek design and smooth performance –although those are certainly appealing! Our mission stems from a vision to reduce carbon emissions and improve the wellbeing of Australians today and future generations.
That’s because switching to electric offers immediate advantages; You can wave goodbye to tailpipe emissions and say hello to lower running costs in comparison to petrol and diesel cars. Moreover, they contribute to cleaner air and reduced noise pollution, while also creating new job opportunities, enhancing fuel security, and balancing household energy supply.
Inspired by the positive impact of electric mobility, we’re committed to fostering awareness and advocacy through our Future Drive social and news platforms, and events like Sydney International EV AutoShow – ensuring education and engagement continue all year round.
And we’re not alone in this journey. Alongside us, Federal and Territory governments across Australia are investing in the electrification of the transport sector, working towards affordable and accessible EVs. Initiatives like the development of ultra-fast charging networks in NSW and a zero-emission bus transition in Victoria reflect a collective effort for a greener future.
So, while it’s no secret that the electric vehicle market is booming, with sales and model diversity on the rise. We still have a long road ahead to achieve our goal of 1 million EVs on Australian roads by 2027.
But we’re not backing down! Exciting events are coming up, including the Melbourne International EV AutoShow in June 2025, as well as the Light Commercial AutoShow in September 2025, and Sydney Electric SUV Expo this time next year. Our Future Drive community is expanding across social media and our news platform, dedicated to championing a cleaner future for mobility in Australia. Join the electric revolution and let’s drive change together!

Ready to go electric? bp pulse answers new EV drivers’
top questions
How
easy is it to charge my EV when I’m out and about?
If you’re considering an EV for your travels, there are plenty of tools to help find chargers along the way. The free bp pulse app, for instance, lets you search for EV chargers across our network and even filter by real-time availability. Just plug in, power up and go! To make your charging experience even easier, check out the bp pulse charge card. Once linked to your bp pulse account, just tap your bp pulse charge card to start a charging session - it’s that simple.
Are EVs different to drive?
Most new EV drivers quickly adapt, but there are some differences. EVs are always automatic, so expect just two pedals. Without manual gear changes, acceleration can be smoother and faster. Another key difference? EVs have regenerative braking, which tops up the battery with otherwise wasted energy. This can feel like you’re braking slightly when you lift off the accelerator - but will help your battery stay topped up longer.
I’ve heard people talk about range anxiety. Should I be worried?
Range anxiety - the fear of running out of charge - is common among new EV drivers. However, it’s easily avoided with some planning. Before you set off, aim to charge up and map out charging points along your route and at your destination. Still concerned? Rest assured, many new EVs now boast impressive
driving ranges, allowing you to drive longer distances or feel more comfortable on your day-to-day commute.
How much does it cost to charge?
The cost of charging can vary according to several factors - from how often you need to charge, to whether you charge at work, home, or on the move, and the speed of charger you use. At bp pulse, charger pricing is shown within the bp pulse app, so you can see how much charging at a bp pulse location will cost you ahead of time. Did you know that at selected bp pulse locations, you can even take advantage of variable charger pricing? This allows drivers to get access to lower-priced, off-peak charger pricing. To check the most up-to-date charging prices, always refer to the bp pulse app.
How long does it take to charge my EV?
The time it takes to charge your EV will depend on a few things – such as your vehicle, the speed of charger you use, other drivers charging, the weather and many other factors. Using bp pulse chargers allow you to get back on the road faster. Always check out the bp pulse app for charging speed capability and locations. As you wait for your EV to charge, make the most of your time parked by catching up with loved ones, plan your next stop or even enjoy bp’s great range of food and drink offerings in-store.

Suffering from range anxiety? Here’s how to maximise EV Range.
Drive Further with Confidence
For electric vehicle (EV) owners, range anxiety is a common concern. Whether you’re heading out on a long journey or just commuting to work, the thought of running out of battery before reaching a charging station can be stressful. While planning your route and adjusting your driving habits can help, there’s an easier solution that doesn’t require constant vigilance: upgrading your tyres.
Tyres are the only part of your vehicle that touches the road, making them critical to your car’s efficiency, performance, and safety. EVs, with their heavy battery packs and instant torque delivery, place unique demands on tyres. This is where Hankook comes into play. Hankook’s iON Evo range is specifically designed to meet the needs of electric vehicles.
Innovative Technology for Enhanced Range, Durability and Performance.
Hankook iON tyres are engineered to reduce rolling resistance, a key factor in extending your EV’s range. Thanks to Opti Cure Technology, which ensures uniform curing of the tyre compound, these tyres minimize friction and drag. This means your electric motors use less energy, allowing you to travel further on a single charge. In fact, Hankook claims that iON tyres can boost your battery range by up to 6.3%, translating to an additional 32km for an EV with a 500km range.
Beyond extending range, Hankook iON tyres are built to last. Their ProDurable compound, featuring advanced fillers and flexible rubber materials, ensures they outlast competitors by up to 25%. The Round Even Technology optimizes the contact patch for uniform wear, contributing to their impressive longevity. Hankook is so confident in their durability that they offer a mileage warranty of 70,000km. If your tyres don’t meet this benchmark, Hankook will cover the difference on a pro rata basis for your next set.
Guaranteed Satisfaction and Warranty
To further ensure your peace of mind, Hankook offers the iON 14 Day Satisfaction Guarantee and 70,000 kms warranty on iON Evo AS range. If you’re not completely satisfied with your iON tyres within 14 days of purchase, you can return them to the original place of purchase for an exchange or refund. This guarantee underscores Hankook’s commitment to customer satisfaction and confidence in their product.
Additionally, Hankook guarantees that iON tyres will provide at least 70,000km of driving before needing replacement and will pay the difference (on a pro rata basis) for your next set if they don’t.
Superior Comfort and Quiet Ride
Driving an EV should be a serene experience, and Hankook iON tyres enhance this by significantly reducing road noise. Quiet Flex Technology, which incorporates noise-absorbing materials, reduces cavity noise by up to 9dB. Additionally, the specialised tread pattern with Noise Guard Technology and Optimised Multi-Patch sequencing creates different frequencies that cancel each other out, similar to active noise-cancelling headphones. This results in a quieter, more comfortable ride.
Proven Performance
In independent tests conducted by TUV SUD, a leading certification and testing company, Hankook iON tyres outperformed competitors in various dynamic assessments, including dry and wet weather braking and lateral wet grip. This ensures that you don’t have to compromise on handling and safety to achieve better range and durability.
When it comes to choosing tyres for your electric vehicle, Hankook’s iON range offers a comprehensive solution. They not only extend your driving range but also provide exceptional durability, comfort, and performance. With the added assurance of a satisfaction guarantee and a mileage warranty, you can drive with confidence, knowing that Hankook has you covered.
