DESIGN THESIS
PROJECT TITLE : PROPOSED TIN-CITY INTERPRETIVE MUSEUM AT IPOH CITY, IPOH, PERAK, FOR MALAYSIA SMELTING COMPANY(MSC)
PROJECT BRIEF Even though Ipoh Town is an on-going develop section of Ipoh City, she is not yet reached her full potential even if the local plan is achieved. By comparing Ipoh Town and Bilbao City, we can see there is a lot similarity between them. Thus, we can imagine that Ipoh Town can be so much better in terms of urban development if the same method of urban regeneration of Bilbao City is being applied there. The hypothesis is that: the urban development of Ipoh Town can reach its full potential and be improved by applying the same concept of the urban regeneration of that in Bilbao (through the role of museum institution). The stand put forward here is: the concept of using museum institution as an urban regenerator in Bilbao can also be applied in Ipoh as a development catalyst. The thesis study is about how to translate history, culture, identity and context of the city into a single museum that comprises externally (facade; building envelop; form) and internally (spatial quality; program) so as to recreate the Bilbao Eect in Ipoh Town.
