PRESIDENT’S LETTER | COMMISSIONERS | REGISTER ONLINE

President’s Letter Dear Neighbors, BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

On behalf of the Roselle Park Board of Commissioners, I am extremely pleased to present the District’s Annual Report included in the center spread of this brochure. Your Park District continued to grow more financially stable during the 2013-14 period for the fourth year in a row. This fiscal year exceeded our budgeted revenue goals while successfully implementing actions outlined throughout the Annual Report. In order to provide you with some overall financial details of our operations, this Report includes our revenues and expenditures from our last fiscal year, which began May 1, 2013 and ended on April 30, 2014. RPD staff has done a wonderful job achieving these goals. We encourage you to review our complete Strategic Plan which can be found on the District’s website at rparks.org. Timing could not be better for us to be updating our Strategic Plan for the next three year period. In our budget outline for 2016, we had been anticipating making improvements to the building at Turner Park, and have been allocating funds for several years to do so. The Board had charged Staff to also look for alternate sources of funding to make this project one that would serve our community for years to come. On October 4th, RPD was awarded a PARC grant – Park and Recreational Facility Construction grant – in the amount $2.477 million -- what a game changer! Look for more details in the coming months. Make this Year a healthy one, come and try out in-house fitness classes for FREE January 5 through January 9. Make sure you try out the new fitness classes being offered in this season which include: • Hit It!® P.O.W.E.R • BARRE Basics Our Recreation Staff has also been hard at work creating new special events and sports leagues for all different ages and stages. Mark your calendars for: • Finger Food Feast and Frozen Treats • Family Field Trip – Dinner and a Movie • Canine 5k and 1 Mile Walk, Sunday April 26 • Noon New Year’s Eve (parents and children) • Co-Rec 15” Whiffle Ball League - Ages 8-10 • Men’s Over 30 Basketball League On behalf of the entire Board and staff at the Roselle Park District, I thank all of you for your continued support and use of our programs and facilities. We anticipate the current year to be as successful as this last fiscal year.

Youth Sports The Roselle Park District staff would like to thank our volunteer soccer coaches for their time and effort this past fall season. Their names: Chris Kontos, Samantha Franco, John Mensik, Samir Ahmed, Lou Porcaro, Jen Pankau, Angel Maldonado, Luis Cruz, and Shane Gizzi.

A Place To . . . Play

Volunteer Coaches Needed! Be it our in-house soccer and basketball leagues, or Raptors travel basketball teams, volunteer coaches are a valuable ingredient in our youth athletic programs. Without caring moms and dads from the community, giving of their time and effort, we would not be able to offer these types of activities. They understand the valuable lessons of participation, teamwork, character, and sportsmanship. The Roselle Park District feels these longterm principles are paramount and cannot be shoved aside in order to achieve shortterm “victories.” If you are a “first timer,” we offer clinics and an on-line coach’s certification program for those interested in this fun and rewarding opportunity. Please call Vic Orlandino at 630-894-4200 for details.

Youth Sports Spring Youth Soccer League (VO) AGES 5-13

Big Kickers (VO) AGES 5-6

Emphasis in the Mid-Suburban Soccer League is placed on individual instruction, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Teams will be based on approximately 12 to 15 players per roster depending on age groups. Waiting lists will be used until there are enough players and a volunteer head coach to form another team. Games are played on Saturdays against neighboring park districts. Competition will begin April 18. Practices will be held during the week based on coach’s availability. Practices will start two weeks prior to game play dependent upon a particular level having enough volunteer coaches lined-up. Parents will receive a call from their child’s coach once the team selection process is completed. The number of teams competing this spring out of the Roselle Park District is to be submitted to league officials mid-March for scheduling purposes. Registering before or after this timeframe does not necessarily guarantee a spot on a team due to minimum and maximum numbers needed to form a team. Register early to ensure your child’s spot on a team!

Not quite ready for our spring soccer league? Just learning the game? Well, here’s the chance to get your son/daughter all squared away for fall league. Emphasis will be placed on following directions and learning the basic skills of soccer all while having fun! Lead-up games involving running, kicking, dribbling, and passing will be played weekly. Classes will be held outside at Waterbury Soccer Field, weather permitting. Depending on gym availability, class may be moved indoors. Please call our Front Desk at 630-8944200 an hour prior to start time if there is any question in regards to class being moved indoors or postponed due to weather/field conditions. Children will need to wear plastic shin guards. Don’t forget to bring your size three youth soccer ball and water bottle.

Take advantage of our early-bird sign-up fee of $56 by registering before February 16. All registrations submitted from February 16 on will be charged an additional ten dollars and, again, players cannot be guaranteed a spot on a team. Volunteer coaches are always needed for this program. Please indicate on registration form if you would be able to manage a team. Also, please let our front desk staff know if you would be interested in coaching. They will make note of this in our computer registration software. If you are not familiar with the game of soccer, don’t worry, we can teach you everything you need to know. DIVISION CUT OFF DATE: August 1, 2014 Age of a child as of August 1, 2014, will determine at what level he/she will be eligible to play in this spring. W.O.W Women on Weights (DD) AGES 16 and up

Les Mills BODYPUMP™ (DD) AGES 16 and up

Strength training has been proven to benefit all populations, from adolescent athletes to seniors. Women, in particular, see tremendous benefits from strength training. Traditionally, women relied on cardiovascular activity and a low calorie diet to change their physical appearance. Unfortunately, low calorie diets merely punish the soul and decrease the metabolism. Without including consistent strength training in our program, effecting change can be an impossible goal. Strength training is absolutely essential if we wish to create visual changes in our bodies, and we’ve discovered that the benefits of strength training extend far beyond the visual.

PUMP™ is the original barbell class that strengthens your entire body. This 60-minute workout challenges all your major muscle groups by using the best weight-room exercises like squats, presses, lifts and curls. Great music, awesome instructors and your choice of weight inspire you to get the results you came for – and fast! Like all the LES MILLS™ programs, a new BODYPUMP™ class is released every three months with new music and choreography. Join us for our new EXPRESS PUMP class on Tu/Th morning at 6 am – 45 minute class!

Adult Trips Christmas at Marshall Field’s Dec. 12 Tour (EB) Wednesday, December 17

Illinois Holocaust Jan. 16 Museum and Education Center (EB) Thursday, February 5

Welcome back to the glamorous days of State Street department stores - with beloved Marshall Field’s the crown jewel - when shopping down-town was an event. You will be transported back to that time through vintage images, video, music, and wonderful stories. Field’s was once one of the largest and best-known stores in the world-certainly the best loved store in Chicago. Today it is Macy’s, but the landmark building still contains many glories. We will use this huge store as backdrop for the many holiday stories and memories of Marshall Field’s. We will explore: • What it was like to visit Marshall Field’s at Christmas time: from the fantasy window displays to the Great Tree to Uncle Mistletoe and Cozy Cloud Cottage to the best toy department in the world • The story of gourmet Frango Mints • Where all of the departments were located within the vast store • The haute couture 28 Shop and its exclusive clientele and private entrance • Charley’s Door and the popular doorman • The many amenities the store once provided, from home delivery to the first bridal registry • Celebrities who visited and loved Field’s • The famous Elevator Girls • The famous iconic clocks • The glittering Tiffany mosaic ceiling • Marshall Field’s innovative vision for retail-“Give the lady what she wants.” • The famous Walnut Room and the many other esteemed restaurants • We will end with lunch at the Walnut Room-the site of the Great Tree-with an included classic dessert of your choice. We will leave the store with wonderful Christmas memories of Marshall Field’s-and a sweet taste lingering on our taste buds. About 2 hours, walking that includes stairs, but we can easily make accommodations for those who can’t do stairs. The trip will pick up and drop off at the Clauss Recreation Center.

This is a trip you do not want to miss! The IHMEC is dedicated to preserving the legacy of the Holocaust by honoring the memories of those who were lost and by teaching universal lessons that combat hatred, prejudice and indifference. We will participate in a guided tour of this state-of-the-art museum learning about the various exhibitions and hearing the interpretation of its collections. We will end the day with a guest speaker who lived through the Holocaust and gain insight of what it was like during this tragic time in history. Please make sure to eat lunch prior to arriving for this trip. There will be a lot of walking and standing, so prepare appropriately.

The Andersons’ swampy backyard along Rockford’s Spring Creek was transformed into what it is today. A catered lunch in the Gardens is included. There will be a lot of walking and standing, so prepare appropriately. FEE: R $44/NR $54 MAX: 4/4 per district LOC: Thorndale Rec Center, Medinah Park District ID # 327651-F

The Roselle Park District will make reasonable accommodations in recreation programs to enable participation by an individual with a disability that meets essential eligibility requirements for that leisure program and facilities. The ADA requires that recreation programs offered by the park district be available in the most integrated setting appropriate for each individual. Turner Park Grant Project to begin Summer 2015

These are conceptual drawing of Turner Park. Future public input meetings will be announced shortly. Please check website for updates!

Turner Park Grant The Roselle Park District will receive $2,477,200 to demolish the existing Turner Park Building on Roselle Road and construct a new 8,855 square-foot recreation center. The project also includes site improvements such as a new outdoor pavilion, gazebo, basketball court and ice rink. The total estimated project cost is $3,303,000 which after grant money is applied leaves the district to pay for an estimated $825,800. The districts portion will be covered by existing fund balances and will not impact local park district tax rates. The grant was made possible through the Parks and Recreational Facility Construction (PARC) program, which is administered by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) and funded by Governor Quinn’s Illinois Jobs Now construction program. PARC provides investments to eligible local governments for park and recreation construction projects.

These must be signed by the adult participating in an adult program; and by the parent or legal guardian of participant under 18.

In Case of an Error Complete details of program policies, procedures and guidelines are sometimes omitted from the program brochures because of space limitations. Also, errors in days, times, registration requirements and fees may occur as well. We apologize for any errors that may appear in the brochure. We thank you for your patience and understanding when these situations arise.

Program Room and Area Locations Sometimes Move Around! Program locations are subject to change. Roselle Park District staff reserves the right to make changes to room/area locations if deemed necessary for the participation and safety of all our registrants and programs. This type of flexibility is necessary to ensure that all planned program sessions can meet and activities can go as planned.

Register Early

Nothing ruins a good program quicker than everyone waiting until the last minute to register for it. There is a point where if there aren’t enough registrants to hold the program, it is cancelled. Coming in the day of, or the day before the program won’t resurrect it. Please register at least a week early to avoid disappointment.

Registration Policies Residency Not all Roselle residents are Roselle Park District residents. Even though you may have a Roselle address, you may pay taxes to another park district. Therefore, proof of residency is required when registering for programs for the first time. This may be done with a driver’s license, utility bill, (or a mortgage statement for those who are recently moving to the area). Roselle Park District residents support the district through property tax contributions.

Non Resident Fees Unless specified by a particular program, the non-resident program fee is an additional $10 or 50% of the regular fee, whichever is less. This does not apply to facility rentals. For all facility rentals, Clauss Recreation Center, or Turner Park, there is a consistent $25 increase for non-residents in addition to the stated resident fees.

Wait List Process A wait list is formed when a class reaches participant levels beyond the maximum. The wait list is designed to maintain interested people in a holding area until more spaces in the program are available, someone drops out, transfers, or a new section is added by park district staff based on interest. The wait list is maintained based on the order we process registrations. Customers will be contacted for confirmation before being added to one of our wait lists (or transferred from a wait list into the desired program) by the front desk or specific program supervisor. Please note: before a participant is transferred into a program all corresponding paperwork and payments are required.
