INTRODUCTION
The purpose of Assignment 1 is to focus on the development of a particular position towards a chosen interest in context of the site. Assignment 1 implores the student to select characters, objects, historical narratives to form a narrative response to the site.
Story of the only maker
Back in the days, Hup Huat Tricycle and Bicycle Repair was one of many trishaw makers in George Town. Today, Mr Choo Yew Choon inherits the century-old shop from his great grandfather who founded it and remains as the only trishaw maker in town. Due to the low market value of trishaws today, he repairs bicycles and hawker trishaws to keep his business afloat.
Memory lane of Penang
Life was simpler back then when people do not need to travel much to buy things as trishaw vendors will come to their doorsteps. Many kids would wait for the balloon man and their favorite ice cream guy to pass by. Housewives do even need not travel to do their daily marketing.
Culture of food
Hidden in the street of Penang, you will find that every street is full of smells; that is, the hawkers are selling the authentic food that everyone loves on the trishaw food stall.
Culture of transportation
Going back in time to the Penang pier, we can see countless trishaws queuing up and gathering at the pier to await the arrival of cargo and passenger ships. Some are responsible for carrying people, and some are responsible for transporting goods, which became the most important means of transportation at the time.
Destiny of trishaws
After reading so many newspapers and news articles, it seems that trishaws have become a heritage that is about to disappear. I can imagine that trishaws will gradually be eliminated by society in the future, forgotten by future people, and even become historical heritage that can only be seen in museums. Are we really not doing something to preserve this dying heritage?
Trishaw's musuem
Go deeper into the imagination; open the museum's big doors. Not only common cultural heritage but also many types of trishaws appeared in the museum. In the future, humans will only see trishaws in museums.
Carnival is happening
While the trishaws are still running on the road and being used by people for other purposes, I captured the scene seen at the Hin bus depot. Keep a good photograph. People are having shows, camps, exhibitions, and a whole host of other events. Among them, you will find that some trishaws are used for loading, as a platform for selling goods and food, etc. Do you see the trishaw in the picture?
REFLECTION
Unconstrained imagination, but to create it, it must be given the meaning of its existence. This first phase itself is a big problem for me. First of all, I not only need to read newspapers continuously but also do a lot of data research and field trips to learn more about the story. Because stories create something meaningful, bring it to life, and make its existence meaningful. Regarding this challenge, I cannot say that I have succeeded; I can only say that I will continue to work hard, and there is still a lot of room for improvement and learning. When it comes to my strength in this first phase, there is only a collage picture. But this also requires me to keep trying to form a good picture. This requires a certain amount of patience and perseverance, and more importantly, our "design sensitivity" to photos or objects.
INTRODUCTION
The application of theory towards experiential journey is developed through exploratory apparatus seen through the lens of cinematic compositions (Nosferatu, Exit Through the Gift Shop, Wes Anderson, etc). It is developed in several angles and possibilities to rigorously question its impact on occupants through a playful take on scale, intimacy, immensity, absurdity, politics, behavior, habits, futurism, speculation, divergences, peculiarities, and this will be reflected in the mannerism of materiality, scale and design expression played out in the development.
Five sensory trishaw
Allow you to experience the five senses of the trishaw, including touch, sight, smell, hearing, and taste. The functions include the vision of picking up the trishaw rider experience, a mini museum, a bell, a memory candy rotating machine, and a white coffee factory.
Little trishaw's musuem
As with a museum that records the past and memories, tricycles need a museum that not only preserves them but also records the lives of people who used tricycles before. Operation method: turn on the flashlight in the center, squat halfway to look at the photo in the frame, and turn the wheel to the left, you will see different photos and hear the wheel gear rotating.
LIGHT ON!
The light is on - the museum is open.
DETAILS
"Lelong" bell
In the past, you could always hear trishaw vendors knocking bells, some of which meant departure and some of which were a way of selling. Operation method: Rotate the tire, let the iron cup swing freely, and the iron root inside will hit the iron cup to make a sound.
Nostalgic candy roller
We all loved candy when we were kids, but have you noticed? These candies seem to be rare as we grow up and we don't notice, so let it jog your memory.
Operation method: Open the magnet cover, start to rotate the handle, and randomly drop out the candy from childhood memories, which is also a specialty of Penang.
White coffee factory
White coffee has always been a specialty of Penang, and Penang is the factory of white coffee. Let me, a tricycle rider, drive you to find the white coffee factory today.
Operation method: Smell the white coffee through the funnel-shaped dispenser.
REFLECTION
I am a "DIY" person, and I am also an adventurous and exploring person. I think creating a model is not a big problem for me. But what I think I'm lacking is giving more meaning to the objects I create and giving meaning to where they come from. It is important to know what you are doing and what it means. What can be improved, I think, is the little museum I made. Not only can old photos be used to let users understand the past, but stop motion can also be used to present different driving methods for trishaws, etc.
INTRODUCTION
Assignment 3 is the final alchemy of all that you have developed from Phase 1 & 2 and is the culmination of the project that seeks to converge spatial principles, embodying the theory through exploratory design drawings. The range of the project is dependent on you and could have a vast assortment of possibilities in relation to exploratory drawings. The drawings should reflect on the themes you have chosen in Phase 1. The designs can range from a multitude of design expressions, and these expressions can be inspired from but not limited to the whimsical, social, economical, speculative, political, and poetic. All designed intentions should be intimately related to the context of the site.

REFLECTION
I think after so many design projects, I have a good grasp of space circulation, the usage of materials, and how to filter materials according to the theme. But when it comes to my shortcomings, I can only say that curated drawings are the part that I need to improve. The first time I heard the word, I was confused, and I could only understand its literal meaning while doing it slowly. As for the plan and section, I think that greater progress can be made, such as in the technical part, architectural composition, etc. In terms of modeling and rendering, what I need to pay attention to is that lighting, sunlight, design details, and design logic all need to be improved one by one. This is also the force that drives me to keep improving.
