COWBOY POETRY BY H. FRED LIESE Fred Liese makes his home at the edge of Black Coulee near Turner, Montana. Raised on the Big Flat, he finds plenty of “inspiration” in the people and things around him every day, and Fred’s brand of entertainment has earned him a large following throughout the US and Canada.
Let Us Have Steak or Lettuce at Stake It was the year of ‘97 She came bursting from the crowd Full of confrontation She’s puffing up and proud.
But I only had a minute Because I had to move along So I politely told her, “You’re entitled to be wrong.”
She had a few objections She was clenching in her fist For I’d mentioned vegetarians, Now I was on her list.
“Hold your horses, ma’am,” (And she did, to my surprise,) “Look at living creatures See the placement of their eyes.”
In a moment, it was evident, What was on her plate, Did her anorexic body Make her vegetative state?
Within the hunter’s skull, In the front, they are affixed Their focus on their prey In no way, it restricts.
As she spun into a coil She was quick to strike. An animal for food, She just didn’t like.
The prey makes observation Their eyes are opened wide, Watching for the predators, They’re mounted on the sides.
Her vegetative diet, It will readily sustain And with her heart for living creatures, From meat, she will abstain.
I offered her the facts, Though she’s a non believer, Did she change my point of view? That didn’t happen either.
Being strictly herbivore, It was her healthy choice But the strongest thing about her, Well, it seemed to be her voice.
Now, if she’s meant to graze, She really would be lost For to focus on the grass that’s short, Her eyes would soon be crossed.
The condition of her body (Yes, I did keep quiet) She was living proof You need balance to your diet.
I’m sure she’s gone to greener pastures, And this world is gonna miss her But somewhere in this world …Is another grass kisser.

Money Talks
By guest contributor Greg Dugdale of Raymond James Financial Services, Inc. Havre, Montana
AN OFFER YOU CAN’T REFUSE?
Many of us have heard the term “down-sizing”. Down-sizing in corporations has taken it’s toll on the American worker. Many people, ranging in age from their late 40s to early 60s, are faced with very difficult decisions. These middle-aged, middle managers are being asked to consider “early retirement.” The offers from their employers may range from lucrative to paltry, but the decisions are difficult in almost every case. Let’s review some of the factors to consider when evaluating one of these “offers you can’t refuse.” There are two levels of concern that must be addressed. First, you must consider the emotional aspects of an early retirement decision. It is possible, in fact probable, that you never considered retiring today. For many people, especially those in their 40s and early 50s, retirement is still a hazy goal, far off in the future. They may not have given any thought to what they will do during retirement, whether they will seek other employment or any of a myriad of other questions. The offer of early retirement can affect those who choose to stay with the company as well. Will they have the same, hopefully positive, feelings toward their employer and supervisor? Early retirement programs are often instituted by companies undergoing stressful and uncertain times. Staying around may seem almost as difficult as leaving. You may be unable or unwilling to make financial decisions until these emotional and psychological issues are confronted. The other level of concern is financial. Obviously, you have two choices: do I stay, or do I go? If you choose to stay, what is the financial health of the company? Should you take the money and run? If you stay, what are the prospects for career promotions and pay increases? Will staying merely postpone an inevitable career change, under perhaps less advantageous circumstances? Of course, leaving is also fraught with uncertainty. If you intend to pursue another position, many experts have suggested that your job search will last about one month for every $10,000 in compensation paid by the former employer. Many early retirees become entrepreneurs, so the prospects for a new business and the need for start-up capital must be considered. When evaluating the retirement offer itself, there are also a variety of potential pitfalls. Health insurance is a major concern for many, so find out whether you will continue to be covered. Employers with defined benefit plans may be granting additional years of service or assuming early retirees are older than their actual age for purposes of computing their benefit. The employer may also offer some additional benefit to tide the employee over until age 62 (and increasing) when they can begin to collect Social Security. Tax issues also come into play. Numerous special rules may apply. For example, those who were born before 1936 may qualify to use ten-year forward averaging. Those who are 55 or older when they receive their retirement plan distribution are not subject to the 10% penalty. If you elect to pursue the substantially equal payment exception to the 10% penalty, the payments must continue for the longer of five years or turning age 59-1/2. Of course, this brief article is no substitute for a careful consideration of all of the advantages and disadvantages of this matter in light of your unique personal circumstances. Before implementing any significant tax or financial planning strategy, contact your financial planner, attorney or tax advisor as appropriate. This material was prepared by Raymond James for use by Greg Dugdale, Branch Manager Raymond James Financial Services, Inc. Member FINRA/SIPC.

Papillomatosis (Warts)
Warts may not result in severe losses to the beef industry but can be a real problem for the purebred producers, show cattle and those offering yearling bulls for sale.
Warts are an infectious and contagious virus that spreads by direct contact from the infected cattle to the non-infected. The virus may be spread indirectly by feeders, waterers, pen walls, etc. The virus is species specific, which means people cannot get warts from infected cattle, but other cattle can. There are several strains of the bovine papilloma virus (BPV).
erally develop resistance to the virus that causes warts as they mature. Problems with cattle warts usually arise with our young bulls ready for sale. They have not yet developed immunity to bacteria and viruses in their environment. It is not a quick fix. The success of removing or crushing the warts depends upon the animal’s ability to develop an immune response. We have a product that will help to stimulate the animal’s immune system to rid the warts. -Dr. B

Good Bits While I sat in the reception area of my doctor’s office, a woman rolled an elderly man in a wheelchair into the room. As she went to the receptionist’s desk, the man sat there, alone and silent. Just as I was thinking I should make small talk with him, a little boy slipped off his mother’s lap and walked over to the wheelchair. Placing his hand on the man’s, he said, “I know how you feel. My Mom makes me ride in the stroller too.” Out bicycling one day with my eight-year-old granddaughter, Carolyn, I got a little wistful. “In ten years,” I said, “you’ll want to be with your friends and you won’t go walking, biking and swimming with me like you do now.” Caroly shrugged. “In ten years you’ll be too old to do all those things anyway.” Working as a pediatric nurse, I had the difficult assignment of giving immunization shots to children. One day, I entered the examining room to give four-year-old Lizzie her needle. “No, no, no!” she screamed. “Lizzie,” scolded her mother, “that’s not polite behavior.” With that, the girl yelled even louder, “No, thank you! No, thank you! No, thank you!” Guitars of Montana. “When You’re Serious About Your Sound.” Hammond Pro Line. On the way back from a Cub Scout meeting, my grandson innocently said to my son, “Dad, I know babies come from mommies’ tummies, but how do they get there in the first place?” After my son hemmed and hawed awhile, my grandson finally spoke up in disgust, “you don’t have to make up something Dad. It’s okay if you don’t know the answer.” His wife’s graveside service was just barely finished when there was a massive clap of thunder, followed by a tremendous bolt of lighting, accompanied by even more thunder rumbling in the distance. The little, old man looked at the pastor and calmly said, “Well, she’s there.” Just before I was deployed to Iraq, I sat my eight-year-old son down and broke the news to him. “I’m going to be away for a long time,” I told him. “I’m going to Iraq.” “Why?” he asked. “Don’t you know there’s a war going on over there?”

FROM THE MARKETING TOOLBOX: Shoot for the Sky
by Tricia Kimmel
Great ideas abound with entrepreneurs. In fact, if I could rewrite the definition of an entrepreneur, I’d say it’s an individual with ever-evolving ideas for how to do business. So, if you’re one of those with a great new idea, how do you launch your new product, program or service in the most productive way? After all, your goal with any business venture is to earn profits. How can you best take advantage of a new launch so it works for you financially? Let’s fast forward a tiny bit and assume that you’ve already done the research, planning and development steps that are required to introduce any new product or service. Now, how to get the customers to your door . . . I suggest doing this in four small steps. 1) Plant the Seed: Your main goal here is to build some anticipation. This is done in the movie business all the time. We start seeing ads and posters and promotional material months before a movie is scheduled to release. 2) Preview the Offer: Offer a small bite of what you’re offering, not the whole enchilada, so to speak. Comparing to that new blockbuster movie that’s coming out, there’s usually a movie trailer to be found online or a preview of the new movie on a current movie that’s already playing. 3) Set a Launch Date: Build some excitement around a specific date. That exciting new movie you GO ONLINE TODAY can’t wait to watch doesn’t come out in and subscribe to our FREE marketing e-newsletter at theaters until this summer, right? www.Kimmel-Kreations.com. 4) Make it Time Limited: Get useful tips like the ones in Create a sense of urgency once you’ve “Marketing Toolbox” plus more great ideas every week! officially launched. You want folks to feel like they need to get it quick before it’s gone, even though it may never really be gone. That upcoming movie is only in theaters for a short time, after which you have to wait for it to come out on Pay-Per-View or on DVD to see it. So if you don’t want to wait longer than necessary, you better get in line at the box office. Don’t let this step be an afterthought; plan your “limitation” from the start. If you’ve developed your launch well, who knows? Maybe you’ll be another XBox 360 phenomenon where people really can’t get your product fast enough, and will wait in line for hours to pay hundreds of dollars for it! Are you unsure of how to market your business? Do you run out of time to market because you’re too busy running your business? Kimmel Kreations, LLC offers customized “Marketing Modules” to lead you through the marketing maze. We are the solution you need. 406.379.2377
