Ramblings of a Conservative
Cow Doctor by Krayton Kerns, DVM, former State Rep. HD 58
Sudden Death Last weekend, the trophy wife and I made a speed trip to Pierre, South Dakota for a continuing education seminar. In his opening remarks, the instructor stressed the importance of collecting a proper history before creating treatment plans. As an example, he humorously offered the enormous difference between a cow which “died suddenly” and one which was “suddenly found dead.” The former implies an element of surprise, whereas the later suggests inattentiveness, as oftentimes, Bessie’s demise escapes everyone’s notice until her bloated carcass blocks the driveway. A few years back I had a middle of the night calving call demonstrating the difference. Dick suspected a calving problem
with this one particular heifer, so he hauled her to the clinic at three o’clock in the morning. I examined her and discovered there was a problem alright and because the calf was dead, bloated and decomposing this was a “suddenly found dead” example. It took two exhausting hours to deliver all the little pieces of rotting veal; hours I would have preferred spending at eight in the morning rather than the middle of the night. However, going back in time is never an option and this quickly brings me to my point. This same “cow died suddenly” versus “suddenly found dead” discrepancy exists in politics. To say our constitutional republic is dying is not entirely correct. She is being killed. Sadly, most Americans
seem willing to ignore our plight and will do so until our great experiment in freedom is suddenly found dead, bloated and blocking the driveway. By then it will be too late. As I have said repeatedly, the progressives cannot advance their big government agenda without first removing the limited-government restrictions America’s framers purposely placed in our Constitution. Progressives, meaning all Democrats and establishment Republicans, despise these constitutional limitations and their treasonous rejection of their oath of office means they should be impeached and removed from office. They will not be because most modern day Americans prefer peace and servitude to “live free or die.”

The Impact of Long-Term Care on Women
Provided By: Brandon Nissen, Northwestern Mutual
Women experience extra challenges in life unique to their half of the population; one of them is their longer life span. The average 50 year old women today can expect to live to nearly age 83; almost four years longer than a man of the same age, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2012 Statistical Abstract. The Census Bureau also reports, for the first time, more women in this country are living without a husband than with one (America’s Families and Living Arrangements: 2012. Table A1). A woman’s longer life span means she has an increased chance of suffering a chronic illness which could require some form of long-term care. This fact alone raises questions around who will provide care in your later years, and at what price? Who will decide these issues? By including long-term care planning in your retirement plans, you can assess the risks, provide answers to some of these questions, and maintain some control over your options should long-term care become a necessity. Potential risks ahead As a woman in America today, you also need to consider in your planning whether or not you are likely to become a caregiver. Women are at greater risk of bearing the costs – financial, physical and emotional - associated with providing care to others. For these reasons, long-term care planning is fundamentally a women’s issue. How will you be cared for if you become unable to do simple things, such as eat, dress, use the bathroom or get in and out of bed alone? Conversely, could you do these things for a loved one should he or she require long-term care and, at the same time, continue to work and take care of yourself ? Long-term care can be expensive and, often, it’s an out-of-pocket expense. Typical safety nets such as Medicaid, which is designed for people who meet certain income requirements, will pay for certain types of long-term care. However, eligibility usually comes only after contributing most of any income you receive and exhausting most assets. What’s more, Medicaid may not cover the entire cost of long-term care, even after you are able to qualify. Traditional health insurance and Medicare, which is for people age 65 and older and those who have certain disabilities, don’t cover the costs of most long-term care services. For these and other reasons, long-term care planning has become an essential part of retirement funding for a growing number of American women today. Because funding long-term care can be challenging, it’s important to work with a professional who understands your needs and can design a strategy that will meet those needs at a cost you can afford. Specifically, look for a financial representative who is supported by a well-established company with a solid history of strength and stability. A company that is well-positioned to be there when you need it most. It’s best to talk about long-term care early—before the need for medical or personal care is imminent. That’s because the plan you establish now can help provide options and preserve the assets you worked so hard to create. By planning ahead, you can also help maintain your independence and work to ensure you have the financial security to live your life your way. ###

BFCGB, Inc. Launches First Dream Vacation Raffle for 2016
TURNER, MONTANA—Trustees for the Big Flat Community Grain Bin, Inc. are thinking big. Rather, they are thinking of sending three lucky winners on a big vacation next year as part of the first annual “Trip of the Year” raffle. As part of the group’s long term growth planning, the board has been discussing some fairly large projects and a raffle of this kind will help meet the developing goals. BFCGB, Inc. has awarded several scholarships and a handful of community grants since its inception, as well as helped provide resources and man-power to establish other organizations and services in the region. Projects of consideration for the future include helping local volunteer EMS and fire departments update their training facilities, increasing the size of scholarship offerings, and possibly building a community center. In this initial launch year, the Grain Bin is offering three chances to win a dream vacation for two. Grand prize is a Cancun Resort vacation; 2nd place is an Alaskan Cruise; 3rd place is a Las Vegas Weekend Getaway. Only 300 tickets will be sold for $150 each, with winners to be announced at the annual New Year’s Eve Celebration in Turner. An outside party will conduct the drawing so that no one 18 and older is excluded from participating. Winners may select the vacation they are awarded, or may choose a travel voucher good through Main Connection Travel toward another destination, or they may choose cash in lieu of the vacation package, as outlined in the rules brochure.
