DAVE SAYS: Who Is Dave Ramsey? Dave Ramsey is a personal money management expert, popular national radio personality and the author of three New York Times bestsellers – The Total Money Makeover, Financial Peace Revisited and More Than Enough. In them, Ramsey exemplifies his life’s work of teaching others how to be financially responsible, so they can acquire enough wealth to take care of loved ones, live prosperously into old age, and give generously to others.

DEAR DAVE, Our son is 13, and he wants to give half the money he received for his birthday to the nursery at our church. They need new baby toys and things like that. Should we let him give that much, or should we tell him that maybe 25 percent is enough? ~Kyle Dear Kyle,

Watch for next issue's RODEO SUMMER edition!

Have a rodeo or barrel race to list? call us!

I hope you’re proud of this kid. He’s a got a good heart, and it’s probably a reflection of the way his mom and dad are raising him. I like this a lot. I would very gently, and without any commanding or control verbiage, use some examples from the Bible when talking to him. There are several things to be learned about money from Scripture, and the concepts of generosity and giving are in there. There’s also a verse that says we need to take care of our own households first. Another one says in the house of the wise are stores of food and oil. We need to do all of these things with money — in balance. Thoughtfully and prayerfully decide what your giving amount will be, so that you don’t destroy your ability to save and do other important things. Talk to him about these concepts, then ask him to wait two or three days and think about his decision. If he comes back and says he still wants to give half of it, I would encourage him to do so. But slow things down a little, and make sure this isn’t a knee-jerk reaction. You need to be a wise giver, not an impulsive giver! ~Dave DEAR DAVE, My husband and I are currently in Baby Step 2, and paying off all our debt except for our home. A friend recently told us to pay off everything except for the credit card debt. She says we can then settle for a far less amount and not have so much money going out the door. This feels a little unethical to me. What are your thoughts? ~Jennifer Dear Jennifer, There’s a good reason this idea feel unethical to you — it is unethical! Would a good friend, a smart friend, encourage you to do something as dishonorable as not pay a bill you’re morally and legally obligated to pay? I don’t think so. If you’re able to pay your bills, you pay your bills. It’s as simple as that. Now, if you honestly can’t pay the bill, and you have to settle upon a mutually agreed upon amount with the creditor or collector, then it’s okay at that point to try and reach a settlement. Otherwise, it’s a simple question of ethics. Pay the bill! ~Dave * Dave Ramsey is CEO of Ramsey Solutions. He has authored seven best-selling books, including The Total Money Makeover. The Dave Ramsey Show is heard by more than 12 million listeners each week on 575 radio stations and multiple digital platforms. Follow Dave on the web at daveramsey.com and on Twitter at @DaveRamsey.

FAST TALKER

At a country-club party, a young man was introduced to an attractive girl. Immediately he began paying her court and flattering her outrageously. The girl liked the young man, but she was taken a bit aback by his fast and ardent pitch. She was amazed when he seriously proposed marriage after only 30 minutes. "Look," she said, "we met only a half hour ago. How can you be so sure? We know nothing about each other." "You're wrong," the young man declared. "For the past five years I've been working in the bank where your father has his account."

THE ACCIDENT

My six-year-old grandson called his mother from his friend Charlie's house and confessed he had broken a lamp when he threw a football in their living room. "But, Mom," he said, brightening, "you don't have to worry about buying another one. Charlie's mother said it was irreplaceable." 2000 Country Club Road * Turner, MT 59542 Phone 800-756-1817 Email: office@triciastrader.com www.TriciasTrader.com FAX: 888-796-8498

Looking for a medical position Ramblings of a Conservative Cow Doctor by Krayton Kerns, DVM, former State Rep. HD 58

Beware the Beast

It is impossible to learn diseases of every species, so treating trendy critters can be challenging. The internet simplified exotic animal medicine as a quick google search yields common diseases for most species. Unfortunately, Al Gore hadn’t yet invented the internet when Frank called about his emus. He had shut the two birds in a small barn stall due to the 25 below winter weather and during the night, emu number one did a Mike Tyson on emu number two. “This will be a simple trauma case,” I thought as I drove to their barn. I peeked into the corner of the stall and spotted a pile of feathers and straw. Thinking this would be easier than I expected, I crept towards the shivering mass to assess the wounds. I gently touched the bird and triggered a flight-or-fight reaction which is problematic as emus are flightless. Fighting was its only option. Because insulated coveralls padded my body and the bird was near death, I dove in for a second, third and fourth round of kicks before restraining the critter in a blue tarp and cleaning the wounds. I eventually smeared the open abrasions with an antibiotic ointment and backed out of the stall. As I drove back to the clinic I thought how I had underestimated my adversary, a mistake I vowed to never repeat. This brings me to my point. Regardless of progressive smiley faces and good intentions, the federal government is evil, massive and growing out of control. The ruling class feed it to enslave the non-producing class in dependency and the producing class in debt. I fear the Trump administration has been sucked into the bipartisan vortex with the recent stop-gap, 1.1 trillion-dollar budget and here is why. Progressives never, ever compromise, so any budget garnering their support grows government at the expense of freedom. Chumps in the hinterlands will be expected to work extra hours so the ruling class can spread their bounty to those too lazy to work…less a small handling fee for administrative expenses. When Vice President Pence trumpeted this spending bill as being bipartisan, I almost had a stroke. In case the Trump administration missed the point, let me state it again. You were not elected to go to Washington and get along. We expected you to subdue the entire progressive agenda, so do not repeat my mistake of underestimating the power of the beast you are trying to wrap in a blue tarp. They can be more devious than a crippled emu.
