DAVE SAYS: Who Is Dave Ramsey? Dave Ramsey is a personal money management expert, popular national radio personality and the author of three New York Times bestsellers – The Total Money Makeover, Financial Peace Revisited and More Than Enough. In them, Ramsey exemplifies his life’s work of teaching others how to be financially responsible, so they can acquire enough wealth to take care of loved ones, live prosperously into old age, and give generously to others.

DEAR DAVE,

I just accepted a new job that will pay me $30,000 a year more than my old position. I’ve got about $55,000 in debt I’ve been working hard to pay off, and I know now I need to adjust my budget. Do you have any advice? ~Mitch

DEAR MITCH,

The first thing I’d say is don’t go crazy on any big-ticket items while you’re paying off debt. Keep it simple, and go out to celebrate with a nice dinner after you get your first paycheck. Remember, the more you put toward debt, the faster it goes away. For the time being, I want you to remain passionate about getting out of debt. Your thought process needs to be, “Wow, I got a new job making more money. I can get out of debt even quicker!” Again, I’m okay with you adjusting a bit that first month and having a little fun to celebrate your good fortune. But after that, I want you to turn around and attack that debt with even more intensity than before. Then, once you’re out of debt, you can celebrate that with something a lot nicer. Congratulations, Mitch! ~ Dave

DEAR DAVE,

You say to never give collectors access to your checking account. Does that include debit cards, too? ~ Sue

DEAR SUE,

Yes, it does! Collectors are looking to get as much as they can on a bad, late debt. I’ve seen numerous situations where collectors have taken more than the agreed-upon amount from someone’s account once they gained access. To be fair, the collection business does have a few good people in it. But it also has those who will lie and make threats. If you’re doing something like scheduling utility payments to come through your debit card or out of your personal checking account, that’s perfectly fine. But there are much safer ways to handle situations with debt collectors. You can send a money order overnight, or wire the cash to them. You can also send a cashier’s check. Some folks have even used pre-paid debit cards that aren’t attached to any of their accounts. The pre-paid debit card isn’t my favorite way to handle these things, but it’s a lot better than giving a dishonest collector the opportunity to really mess you up! ~ Dave

Spanish Bible My family was visiting a church and the minister announced they had both Spanish and English Bibles for use during the service. My youngest son tugged at my sleeve and whispered, "Mommy, I want one of those Spanish Bibles." "Don't be silly, you can't read Spanish," I quickly rejoined. Holding out his own Bible to me, my kindergartner explained, "Mom, I can't read English either."

Enjoying Everyday Life Joyce Meyer

The Nature of Real, Living Hope For many years, I was an extremely negative person. I could walk into a room and pick out the one small detail that was wrong, like the wallpaper in the corner that was slightly peeling. I saw what was wrong with everything! The reason for this attitude was that I had been abused for many years throughout my childhood, and I’d experienced a lot of disappointment. When Dave and I got married, I was 23 years old and I couldn’t remember a time I had ever been really happy. People who have had a tough time in life are often afraid to expect anything good because they don’t want to be disappointed and have to deal with the pain it brings. But I know from personal experience that if you’ve lived with this mind-set, you can make a change—with God’s help—and live with hope! I know this is true because in John 10:10 (AMP), Jesus says, “The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows].” If we will trust and believe in Him, we can have abundant life in Christ! Believe It Before You See It I sometimes say that we are the “show me” generation—we want to see it before we believe it. In fact, most of us have a hard time believing that God is working on our behalf until we see something happening with our natural eyes. But that’s not how God operates—He works behind the scenes. You may not see anything happening, but do you believe God is working on things in your life right now? Do you believe that He’s got a plan to help your children, your marriage, or those things you’ve been praying about for years? Jeremiah 29:11 says that God has a good plan for your life “to give you a future and a hope.” In other words, God is looking for an opportunity to be good to you! Maybe it’s hard to imagine yourself as a positive, faith-filled person, full of hope. If so, I know exactly how you feel! Some people are simply afraid to hope because they have experienced so much disappointment and don’t think they can face any more pain. But that’s okay, because God is “the God of hope,” and He wants to “fill you with all joy and peace in believing [through the experience of your faith] that by the power of the Holy Spirit you will abound in hope and overflow with confidence in His promises” Romans 15:13). With Him, it’s never too late to start believing, anticipating, hoping and expecting. The Truth About What Hope Really Is One definition of hope is “a favorable and confident expectation.” I believe many times we take a passive attitude, deciding we’ll just “wait and see” if something will change or “happen” to go well for us. But God wants us to expect on purpose. He desires for us to actively anticipate something good. So…what are you expecting? How do you talk about your future? What kind of attitude do you have about your everyday life? When you get up in the morning, do you think, Well, I guess I’ll try to make it through another day. Or do you wake up with anticipation that today might be the day you receive your breakthrough? It’s interesting that when a woman’s pregnant, we say that she’s “expecting.” And the further along she is, the more she anticipates what’s coming. My pregnancies were especially unique because I carried all four of my children approximately a month past their due date. My doctor told me I was the only woman he knew who stayed pregnant as long as an elephant. Toward the end of each pregnancy, I woke up every day and said, “Today is going to be the day—it has to be the day!” I had my suitcase packed and ready. I was constantly doublechecking everything and making sure things were in order, confident that my baby would come at any moment. Anytime I felt a twinge, I would think, There it is! It’s coming! This is exactly how God wants you to be with Him! He has an incredible plan for your life, and He wants you to anticipate that good things are right around the corner. Hope says: “Things may have been this way for a long time, but God is the God of the impossible, and things can change.” Maybe you’ve endured a lot of pain and disappointment and can’t imagine anything getting better. The enemy wants to convince you that things will never change. But God is a God of hope, new beginnings and second chances! He wants you to know that He loves you...and knowing that will fill you with overflowing hope! ********* For more on this topic, order Joyce’s four-CD series Sit, Stand, Walk, Run. WINNERS OF SUICIDE PREVENTION COLORING CONTEST NAMED

Feb. 2018 Mar. 2018

To raise awareness during September, Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month, the Local Advisory Council (LAC) on Mental Health in Blaine County sponsored Mar. 5 a coloring contest, hoping to send the message to young people that every single person means something to someone. The contest, open to kindergarten through third grade students, accepted entries through October 2, and the winners have been selected. Sasha Anderson, who attends Meadowlark Elementary in Chinook, was the People’s Choice in the Kindergarten category, Savannah Heilig of Turner Elementary was selected the winner in the First Grade category, Olivia Keller from Turner took top honors for Second Grade, and Abby Grabofsky, another Turner Elementary student, captured the prize in Third Grade. The winner of the drawing contest, which allows submissions from grades 4 – 12, was Wrien Wolery, Grade 4, also from Turner.

Mar. 28 Mar. 2018 Apr. 2018 Apr. 4 Apr. 5

All Blaine County students, including homeschoolers, were invited to color the LAC poster, an original drawing by Chinook High School student Kourtney Hanson, which featured the American flag, two soldiers saluting, and the slogan: Be Soldiers and Combat Bullying. Contest submissions were on display in the Blaine County Health Department, and the public was invited to judge the artwork, selecting a winner in each of five categories. The LAC received entries from fifteen kindergarteners, eighteen first graders, fifteen second graders, and Apr. 12 ten third graders. Only eight individuals submitted entries in the fourth through twelfth grade drawing contest. The experience celebrates the individual worth of each student, and according to Blaine County Nurse, Jana McPherson-Hauer, “Our Blaine County kids do some amazing things!” Donna L. Miller, PhD "Face each day with minds open to knowledge and hearts open to compassion."

Ever since I termed out of the Montana House, I suffer a recurring dream where I am chairing House Judiciary and during a brief recess, I discover I am not wearing pants. Sometimes my nightmare graciously allows me to sneak out of Room 137 unnoticed, but usually Montanans gathering to speak to the committee suffer shock and awe at my social faux pas. I hate those dreams. Contrary to my subconscious, apparently D.C. politicians and mega-donors are not embarrassed by personal public nakedness. I suspect they are fully clothed in their nightmares and are conducting business with manners fitting and proper to mixed company. How un-nerving. This topic is timely because common to several of the sexual assault charges against mega-donor, Harvey Weinstein, was his stepping naked from a motel shower in the presence of a young, struggling actress. Harvey Weinstein is not an attractive man, certainly no Al Franken, John Conyers or Matt Lauer. For this to happen more than once suggests his bath time bait-and-switch must have worked in the past. How is that possible? A few days back, I stepped from the shower to towel off in our adjoining weight room. It is a small room made to appear larger by three full-length mirrors; a home decor trick promoted by Rudy Shui, Feng’s less astute younger brother. I studied my dripping carcass, dumbfounded how any lady could find a naked man attractive. Progressive pundits have proven $5K beaver blankets, flashy dog collars and blenders are unnecessary frills in the art of seduction if you just show up naked, which brings me to my point. You are being prepped to believe sexual harassment is epidemic. Certainly, there are evil predators lurking in the shadows, but not at the level being presented. Watch for this: After citizens accept sexual harassment as a greater threat than Kim Jong Un juggling plutonium, propagandists at the Fake News Network will focus your attention on President Trump. Media activists will endlessly loop the decade old video clip capturing his locker room banter where he claimed it is proper to grab ladies by their privates. It is not, and he was wrong. This will be instantly followed by an endless parade of coached victims accusing President Trump of sexual harassment. Should midterm elections shift congressional control to the progressives, President Trump will be removed from office, thereby reclaiming the swamp. That is the naked truth.

Ranching For Profit Blog -

Dave Pratt Healthy Land, Happy Families and Profitable Businesses

What’s Your Profit Target? A Ranching For Profit School alumnus was talking to me about his financial goals. I asked how much profit he wanted to make. He told me he figured he needed $20,000 to live. I reminded him that his salary or draw must be deducted as an overhead cost before calculating profit. I asked again how much profit he wanted. It was clear he didn’t have a target when he said, “I guess $10,000 would be good.” I asked what he would do with $10,000 profit. He said he’d never had any reserves and he’d use it to start a savings program. “So your profit is to build financial security,” I said. Then I asked what he’d do if he made a $20,000 profit? He said that he’d pay down his debt. “So your profit is about building financial security and to get the debt under control,” I said. Then I asked, what would you do if you had a $50,000 profit?” In an instant he said that he’d go on a golf vacation. “So your profit is to build financial security, to get debt under control and to reward yourself,” I added. Finally I asked, “What would you do with the money if your business made a $100,000 profit.” Without blinking an eye he named an organization to which he’d said he’d like to make a big donation. “So your profit is to build financial security, control the debt, reward yourself and support causes you believe in.” After a pause I asked him again, how much profit he wanted to make. He didn’t seem as satisfied with a $10,000 target as he had been moments ago and he named a much higher target Money is not a very effective motivator. Money is only important when put in the context of what it will be used for. Monetary targets are important, but having a clear picture of how the money will be used when those targets are achieved is much more motivating.

Wheat markets were under pressure, led by spring wheat futures in Minneapolis. Weakening world cash prices are pulling US values lower, with Russia the leader to the downside as they continue to aggressively offer their record crop at discounted prices. Corn was weaker, feeling some of the pressure from wheat but also from increased farmer selling as the US harvest moves into the final days and producers run out of storage, forcing them to sell into the cash market. Soybeans were slightly higher, led by a strong soymeal market and an absence of farmer selling now that harvest is complete. The cattle complex was higher as both live cattle and feeders managed a bounce following a three week sell-off. Carcass prices were mostly steady to slightly higher but boxed beef values slipped. Seasonal highs appear to have been scored in both markets, and demand for grazing calves has slowed with dryness stressing winter wheat pastures across the southern plains. The Dow soared into new record highs, led by optimism that a tax overhaul would boost the economy. Metals were mixed with silver under pressure but gold fending off the bears. Energies were quietly mixed with crude oil taking a breather after stamping a fresh 2 ½ - year high last week. The US dollar was weaker on the outlook that interest rates would not likely increase for awhile once the expected December increase was established. THIS IS A SOLICITATION.
