Triangle Communications Announces Funding Available for School Technology Programs The Triangle Communications’ Technology Program, which offers monetary support to schools and youth groups in Triangle service areas, is accepting applications for fund disbursements. K-12 schools may request up to $1,500 each year for funds that can be used to purchase technology equipment, supplies, services, or training to improve efficiencies achieved by enhancing or upgrading current technology. Because the School Technology Grant is ongoing, there is no deadline to apply for these program funds. Interested schools should apply online at www. itstriangle.com/education-support/technology-program where applicants will be asked not only to supply basic information like the name and address of the school and the project’s title but to briefly describe the student group and size of group to be served. Applications also ask for an anticipated project timeline and cost, as well as for a description of the results expected from the project and how these results will be evaluated or measured. Finally, applications require the school superintendent’s approval and a statement about how Triangle Communications will be recognized for the granted funds.

Ranching For Profit Blog - Dave Pratt Healthy Land, Happy Families and Profitable Businesses www.ranchingforprofit.com
You may own your job if…
In the last ProfitTips I asked you if you owned a business or a job. I offered Robert Kiyosaki’s criteria from his book Cash Flow Quadrant: Could you leave for a year and come back to find your ranch working even better than when you left it? If so, Kiyosaki says you own a business. If not, you own your job. But that’s only one way to look at it.

Here are some others: 1. Would you react to a new idea that would increase your profit by thinking, “When will I find the time to do that?!” If you would, you own a job and the last thing you need is another one. A business owner would think, “How can I get someone to make that happen?” 2. If you sold the ranch would you only be selling a collection of assets? If you were selling a business, in addition to the assets you would be selling documented production, sales, finance and management systems that show how to use those assets to serve customers and produce a profit. 3. Does your ranch have a purpose beyond profit and does it serve someone other than you? The purpose of a business is to serve a customer. Only by serving a customer can a business make a profit and serve the owner. 4. Does $2,450 (the tuition for the Ranching For Profit School) seem like a lot to spend on professional development? It is a lot to spend on doing your job better but it’s a drop in the bucket to invest in building a better business. 5. Have you ever said: I really ought to manage this as though it were a business? This phrase acknowledges that the ranch isn’t a business. We can act as though it is for a while, but it isn’t sustainable to pretend. 6. Does your ranch make an economic profit? Without the subsidies that most ranchers use to survive (e.g. off farm income, inherited wealth, working for less than it would cost to replace themselves), would your ranch be able to cover all of its costs and have a healthy return on investment? If it isn’t profitable, it isn’t sustainable. In fact, it isn’t even a business. It’s a hobby. Most ranches are very expensive hobbies. If you are ready to transform your ranch into a real business, then you are ready to take or repeat the Ranching For Profit School.

DAVE SAYS:
Who Is Dave Ramsey? Dave Ramsey is a personal money management expert, popular national radio personality and the author of three New York Times bestsellers – The Total Money Makeover, Financial Peace Revisited and More Than Enough. In them, Ramsey exemplifies his life’s work of teaching others how to be financially responsible, so they can acquire enough wealth to take care of loved ones, live prosperously into old age, and give generously to others.
DEAR DAVE, I’ll be graduating from college with no debt in a couple of weeks, and I have a good job waiting for me in January. During the last few years, I’ve managed to save almost $25,000 from my part-time jobs while in school. My car is pretty beaten up and old, so I’ve been shopping at a couple of car dealerships recently. Every time I talk to a salesperson, they tell me I should finance something new instead of paying cash for a used car. What should I do? - Ethan DEAR ETHAN, I hope you’ll keep one very important thing in mind. This is your purchase, not theirs. The only reason they want you to finance something is so they’ll make a lot more money off the deal. Forget what they want. You need to do what’s best for you. You’ve been a hard-working, smart guy over the last few years. The fact that you’ve been able to save nearly $25,000 is proof of that. I don’t think you want to throw a big chunk of your savings—or your new income—into something that’s going to go down in value like a rock. New cars lose about 60 percent of their value during the first four years of ownership. That means a $28,000 car would be worth around $11,000 after that period. That’s not a smart investment. If I were you, I’d shop around and pay cash for a nice, slightly used $10,000 car. You can get a great automobile for that kind of money, plus you’ll still have the majority of your savings. Congratulations, young man. You’ve done a great job! - Dave * Dave Ramsey is CEO of Ramsey Solutions. He has authored seven best-selling books, including The Total Money Makeover. The Dave Ramsey Show is heard by more than 13 million listeners each week on 585 radio stations and multiple digital platforms. Follow Dave on the web at daveramsey.com and on Twitter at @DaveRamsey.

Shipwrecked
It There were two men shipwrecked on this island. The minute they got on to the island one of them started screaming and yelling, "We're going to die! We're going to die! There's no food! No water! We're going to die!" The second man was propped up against a palm tree and acting so calmly it drove the first man crazy. "Don't you understand?!? We're going to die!!" The second man replied, "You don't understand, I make $100,000 a week." The first man looked at him quite dumbfounded and asked, "What difference does that make?!? We're on an island with no food and no water! We're going to DIE!!!" The second man answered, "You just don't get it. I make $100,000 a week and I tithe ten percent on that $100,000 a week. My pastor will find me!"
Harlem Country Christmas to Take Place at New Horizons
The next issue publishes Wed., Dec. 19th, 2018. Ad DEADLINE Wed., Dec. 12th at 9am.
The Harlem Civic Association invites everyone to their Harlem Country Christmas and Chili Cook-off event scheduled for Sunday, December 9 from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. at New Horizons, located at 40 4th Street SW in Harlem. Vendor Tables will open at 3:00, and those attending the Country Christmas event will have shopping opportunities until 6:00. Some of the vendors already registered include Origami Owl, 4-H Craft, and Wildtree, which offers affordable meal solutions for busy people that accommodate a variety of dietary restrictions and preferences. In addition, from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. Santa will be on-site and available for pictures. Anyone wishing to purchase a picture with Santa can do so for $5.00. At 3:30 p.m., the Civic Association will begin accepting entries for the Chili Cook-off. The entry window will close at 4:30. Cookoff entry is free and open to everyone, but to be granted entrance, those wishing to compete in the Chili Cook-off should secure and submit an entry form prior to the entry deadline of December 7. Entry forms can be picked up at Albertsons, Harlem City Hall, or from Civic Association member, Kayla Hudon. Completed forms can be turned in to Helen at Albertsons, Becky at City Hall, or Hudon. All chili entered for competition must be homemade and cooked in a sanitary manner. No precooked, processed, or store brand chili will be accepted. Each entrant should prepare a minimum of three gallons of chili and bring an electric roaster or crockpot capable of maintaining a minimum temperature of 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Entrants are also asked to come prepared with an extension cord since not every table will be close to an electrical outlet. Each entrant will be assigned a ½ table space to decorate and to market his or her chili. A festive holiday space and a unique chili name have been known to attract votes in past chili cook-off competitions. People’s Choice Judging will occur from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. with prizes awarded at the event’s conclusion. Those who wish to participate in the judging will purchase a bowl of chili for $5. That purchase includes a tasting ticket and sampling cups. Each contestant’s station will have a number and a judging jar provided by the Harlem Civic Association, who will also supply serving gloves and toppings for the chili, as well as sampling cups and spoons. After all the votes are counted, the First-Place Chili Cook-off winner will receive $200, and the second-place winner will be awarded $100. All chili entrants are responsible for disassembling and cleaning up their own table space at the conclusion of the event. To make the Country Christmas a success, the Harlem Civic Association is still seeking vendors who wish to rent an eight-foot table for $10.00. Interested parties can private message the Harlem Civic Association on Facebook or contact Hudon at 353-4620.

I went for a run Saturday morning and a half-mile from home I noticed a pickup and trailer creeping my direction. The rig stopped, the driver got out and began walking towards me. He was a friend who currently claims the title of owning the craziest cow to ever visit my vet clinic. Looking at the empty trailer I jokingly blurted, “Let me guess, you are hunting a wild cow?” Bruce sheepishly answered, “Well, actually we are.” Apparently, a neighbor was chasing a cow with control issues and requested Bruce’s assistance knowing he owned a dart gun. Bruce had misplaced his drugs so tracked me down to borrow a dose of Rompun. Attention new veterinarians: NEVER BUY A DART GUN! When a midnight caller asks if you own one you can say “No, call Bruce,” and then go back to sleep. A yes response will suck two hours out of your busy life and it is far more convenient and profitable to have Bruce buy one and then sell him the drugs. Unbeknownst to many producers, the cattle industry is suffering an epidemic of mad cow disease—not the reportable type caused by an infectious prion, but one caused by ranchers tolerating bad attitudes. If you run an isolated ranch and rarely work your neighbor’s cattle, you may think all cows are as wild as yours. Such is not the case. There are herds where a trophy wife can step into a 12x12 maternity pen to help a chilled calf find the teat. There are others where you wouldn’t send your ex-wife in anything less than an armored Humvee. Which is yours? Crazy cows not only raise crazy calves, but their high-headed demeanor infects the entire herd, which brings me to my point. Belligerence is just as contagious in humans as it is in cows and America is suffering from infectious hostility. Like a few crazy cows stirring up the entire calving pen, Hillary Clinton, Maxine Waters, Eric Holder and Hollywood and media elitists are encouraging the little people to publicly badger conservatives. Leftists justify their attacks by labeling everyone with whom they disagree as racist, misogynists, homophobic fascists. Recently, while attending a family dinner in Charlottesville, Virginia, a loyal leftist assaulted Tucker Carlson’s 19-year-old daughter with a profanity laced diatribe. The Nazis used a similar demeaning technique to convince German citizens the Jews, Poles, and gypsies were sub-human and deserved extermination. Is history about to repeat itself?

Enjoying Everyday Life Joyce Meyer
Spend Your Time Without Acquiring Regrets Imagine we’re at a graveyard. You look at a tombstone and see the person’s name, the date they were born and when they died. In-between the dates there is a dash. I think it’s interesting that a person’s whole life – from the time they are born until they die – is represented by that dash. The question is: What are you doing with your dash? Time goes by so fast, and you don’t want to get to your later years in life and have nothing but regrets. David talks about this in the Psalms. Psalm 39:4-5 (AMPC), says, “Lord, make me to know my end and [to appreciate] the measure of my days …. Behold, You have made my days as [short as] handbreadths, and my lifetime is as nothing in Your sight. Truly every man at his best is merely a breath!” It’s so important for us to invest our time in the important things of life. Because you don’t want to spend your life climbing the ladder of success only to find out your ladder is leaning against the wrong building when you get to the top! Find your balance. First Peter 5:8 (AMP) says we should “be sober [well balanced and selfdisciplined].” This is the key to living with purpose, making your time count. Are you living a balanced life, getting enough sleep, drinking enough water, taking care of yourself so you have the energy you need to do what God is leading you to do? Are you focused on the important things – your relationship with God, spending time with family and friends? The people in your life are more important than money. Are you striving to store up material possessions that are already in the process of decay and will someday end up in a junk yard? That’s what happens to all the things we “worship” here. There is nothing wrong with having nice things and enjoying them, but we cannot afford to put them before the really important things. So I ask you again: What are you doing with your time? Are you investing it or wasting it? Make wise choices. Wisdom is doing now what you will be happy with later on. A good example of this happened when I had a hip replacement in 2015. After the surgery, I healed very well and quickly. The doctor said it was because I was in great shape physically before surgery. I was in great shape because I’ve spent lots of time working out, eating properly, getting good sleep consistently, and doing other healthy habits. I paid the price, investing my time in ways that bought me strength and helped me to recover successfully. Here’s another example: I only have six teeth that don’t have crowns on them. This is because when I was growing up, I never went to the dentist unless I had an emergency. My dentist finally said, “If you’re not going to come in for your regular checkups and cleanings, then don’t call us when you have an emergency.” Because I wouldn’t take the time to go to the dentist on a regular basis and take care of my teeth like I should have, I ended up spending more time getting my teeth repaired later on. It takes a lot of time to get your teeth crowned – and a lot of shots and pain! The bottom line is if you take a little time to do the right thing to begin with, then you won’t be forced to take a lot of time later on taking care of problems that could have been prevented in the first place. Avoid the time-wasters. I’ve discovered eight simple, practical ways you can avoid wasting your time: Stop getting upset about things you can’t do anything about. Be determined 1. to keep your peace in every situation (John 14:27). Don’t complain (Philippians 2:14). It’s useless and changes absolutely 2. nothing. The more we talk about problems, the bigger they seem to become. Don’t try to “buy” time by getting less sleep. This actually causes you to lose 3. more time because when you’re tired, you make more mistakes than you would if you were properly rested. And every mistake costs time to fix. Stop hurrying. This also causes us to make mistakes and waste time. 4. 5. Enjoy what you have instead of craving and going after things you don’t have (Ecclesiastes 6:9). Don’t live in the past. You can’t go back and do anything over again. Let it 6. go and get on with life! (See Philippians 3:8-13.) Take time to deal with little problems and you won’t spend more time later 7. dealing with big ones. 8. Identify things that hijack your time and be firm in avoiding them. We all have room for improvement in our lives. I want to encourage you to make a decision to begin making changes, with God’s help, in the areas you need to grow in. You’ll have abundant life in Christ (John 10:10) and make your “dash” count as you invest your time following the plan He has for you! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ For more on this topic, order Joyce’s four-CD series Sit, Stand, Walk, Run.
